About this property
Cozy Rustic Walkout Basement Cabin in Historic Harpers Ferry
Important to Note: Ceiling Height This unique space has a rustic feel, and while the ceilings are lower than standard, they add to the cabin’s cozy charm. Here are the ceiling heights in each area:
Most guests adjust quickly to the ceiling height and enjoy the distinctive cabin-like atmosphere. It’s a cozy retreat for hikers, history lovers, and anyone wanting to stay close to trails, historic sites, and local dining.
This is a rustic walkout basement with its own private entrance. Because the unit is located on the lower level, you may occasionally hear the central heating and cooling system. We’ve added a white noise machine to help mask those sounds, and some guests even find it soothing.
Temperature and Comfort Please note that the thermostat control is located in the main house, so guests do not have direct access to it. Because the basement can feel cooler than the upstairs, we provide two additional heat sources for your comfort: a portable infrared heater and heat from the electric fireplace. The basement also has a dehumidifier that turns on automatically to help keep the space comfortable.
Sleeping Arrangements Two beds:
One queen bed in the main bedroom area One twin bed in the middle room
Kitchenette Amenities The kitchenette is thoughtfully set up for light meal preparation and dining. It includes:
Sink Electric skillet Coffee maker Tea kettle Toaster Mini fridge Microwave Dishes, silverware, drinking glasses, and coffee cups
The setup is ideal for simple meals, heating leftovers, and enjoying coffee before heading out to explore Harpers Ferry. Important Notes About the Walkout Basement This is a clean, well-maintained 100-year-old property with a ground-level walkout basement. The basement door is original, which adds to the home’s historic charm.
The entrance is surrounded by plantings, and the driveway is gravel rather than paved. Please note that there is an electrical panel located behind the front door. For safety reasons, guests should not open or access it.
Because of the ground-level location and proximity to landscaping, you may occasionally see a harmless spider or other small insects. This is uncommon, but it is possible and disclosed in advance.
This home is pet-friendly, which means that even after thorough cleaning, it is possible a stray pet hair from a previous guest may occasionally be found. That is normal in a pet-friendly property.
If you have an insect phobia or expect the space to be completely free of all natural elements, this may not be the right property for you.
We clean thoroughly between guests. That said, this is a real home cleaned by humans, not a sealed hotel environment or laboratory.
By booking, you acknowledge and accept these conditions. If you are looking for a brand-new, sealed, insect-free environment, a modern hotel may be a better fit.

Location is fantastic! Parking was hard to identify from the street but was easy to correct once we found the white lines. Great place to use as a base camp for exploring the local trails without actually camping.
Cute little place and would stay again. Also great location. My only complaints is the porch light wasn’t on so we had a hard time finding the door and the heat wasn’t on so it was very cold when we first got there.
Cute little place with a cabin feel, it had everything I needed and then some. The place was very clean, the bed was very comfortable, and the shower was clean and welcome after long hiking days.
The place was cozy as the title says. It really gives a cabin feel. It had everything we needed for our short stay and plus some. It is pet friendly. It was fairly close to town, which made it excellent because we took the train and walked everywhere. Overall great stay.

Good location for visiting historic town. Freshly remodeled. Comfortable for couple or family with child.
Great place for one or two people. It’s clean, modern, everything you need! 5 minute walk to lower town. You can leave your car there and go explore and hike around Harpers Ferry
Location was perfect. You can walk to just about everything to do in the town and historical attractions and trails. It is nice to have parking but a little bit of a challenge. . The day we left there was people staying up stairs for the few hours we were there it was quite loud. We were glad no one was staying up stars the nights we were there. Place is very clean .
Great location! Very responsive owner. I will flag that since it is a basement unit, you can hear if guests are upstairs. But the owner was responsive and communicated with those guests when we asked them to quiet down.
This property was very clean and cozy, with handsome interior woodwork. Very quiet and the bed was comfortable with warm linens. The property could use exterior lighting by the entrance (perhaps with a motion sensor?); we arrived in the evening and it was pitch dark. It was difficult to navigate the parking (the directions indicated that there were markings which we could not see and there was a large ditch at the curb). We did not find a thermostat for temperature control but the electric fireplace kept us warm enough.

Thank you for staying with us and for the thoughtful review. I’m so glad you found the space clean, cozy, and quiet, and that the bed and linens were comfortable. I also appreciate the feedback about arriving after dark—improving exterior lighting at the entrance (likely with a motion sensor) is a great suggestion, and I’m working on that now, along with clearer parking guidance/markings to make evening arrivals easier.
On the temperature control: the walkout basement has an infrared heater that heats the entire basement, and the home’s main HVAC/thermostat is located upstairs in the main house, so it isn’t in the basement unit. The electric fireplace also provides heat. I’ll update the check-in/house guide to make this clearer and easier to find. Thank you again for helping to improve the experience for future guests.
We stayed 2 nights in early August at this cute location. It had everything we needed for a weekend getaway. Host was very prompt with answering texts, and the cabin was clean and well stocked to prepare breakfast. We will certainly be back!

It’s a cute place. Close to walk to a variety of places. The only drawback was all the animal hair! It didn’t appear to have been vacuumed & there was lots animal hair in the extra bed; pic attached

Thank you for your feedback. Our walkout basement unit is pet-friendly, and we do provide a dog bed, but many couples who stay use the queen bed themselves and allow their pets to sleep on the twin bed. Because of that, even though we thoroughly clean and launder everything between stays, some pet hair can occasionally be found. We’ll pay closer attention to this, and we appreciate your comments. We’re glad you enjoyed the location and the walkability.
Very clean property and although pet friendly, the dog hair was minimal. Comments regarding low ceilings are accurate but not a big deal even at my 6'3" height. Very quiet to the point I took advantage of the white noise maker in the bedroom. Great interior and shower. This owner cares about the stay of their customers!

Beds were comfortable, shower was spacious. Not enough bath towels for two people, and no hand towels, only washcloths. TV was large, but channel access was minimal, unless you had passwords for Netflix, Paramount, Prime Video etc, which we did not have!

Thank you for your feedback. I’m glad you found the beds comfortable and enjoyed the spacious shower and large TV. Since the unit has a two-person maximum and most guests stay for one or two nights, we provide two bath towels and three washcloths, which usually works well for the space. I’ll add hand towels going forward to make things easier. For TV access, we provide a smart TV that lets guests log into their own streaming services, and I’ll clarify this in the listing so expectations are clear. I appreciate your comments and hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay.
We just spent one night here and were very impressed with the communication and responsiveness of the owner, Raisa. We had some temperature issues when we arrived due to an overactive air conditioner, but she was quick to get it rectified. My only concern at this point is the tight driveway and parking spaces which we shared with the upstairs client.
The space was perfect for my 100lb dog and I. There are dog bowls there if the photos don’t show it. The host was quick to respond and handled our booking issue so professionally!! Parking took a minute to get used to. It was fine even when the upstairs guest came and I have an extended truck.Like many others said you will hear the upstairs guest, so if that will bother you, consider it. We ran into each other when they arrived and it was all smiles. I couldn’t care less but I can see why others would be bothered. My dog and I had so much fun being a short walk from the Appalachian Trail Conservancy head quarters and Harper’s ferry center. I met many kind hikers. The ATC is worth a visit. The guys there will brighten up your day. I took night walks to Harper’s ferry, I was pleasantly surprised seeing a sheriff driving through. Bears chase brewery was dog friendly and I enjoyed chatting with locals. The food was 9/10. I highly recommend visiting mom’s Apple pie in leesburg as well.

Thank you for your feedback, and I’m truly sorry about the noise you experienced. Unfortunately, the guests staying upstairs during your visit were unusually inconsiderate and did not respond appropriately when asked to reduce the noise. This was an anomaly and not representative of the experience we strive to provide.
I completely understand how disruptive this must have been, especially at night, and I sincerely apologize for the lack of rest it caused. I also want to assure you that this situation has been taken seriously.
To prevent this from happening again, I am already scheduled to install cork flooring with cork underlayment upstairs in early January. This significantly reduces sound transfer—similar to soundproofing—and will make a noticeable difference so that future guests should not hear upstairs activity at all.
Thank you again for staying with us and for bringing this to my attention. I appreciate your patience and understanding.
