We are so glad you enjoyed your stay! We love the surrounding views and the hot tub too! See you next time!!
This cabin and property is remote and beautiful and the epitome of outdoor living. Yet inside are just enough creature comforts to feel at home. They've done a great job with the cabin and we had the propeety and hot tub to ourselves (all under the watchful eye of a local doe.) Would come back again!

Thank you so much for your review! We are so glad you enjoyed your time at Rabbit Ears Basecamp with our local doe. Come stay with us again!
We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful little cabin. During our stay, we spent time in Steamboat Springs, visited Dumont Lake twice and our 4 month old puppy took his first swim in a lake there. While visiting Fish Creek Falls we got to see a mother moose and her 2 very large calves. They were about 20 feet off the trail in dense trees eating leaves and never saw us. There are tons of wildflowers in bloom around the cabin and also Dumont Lake.We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to everyone.

Thank you so much for the wonderful review, Mitch! We loved having you two and your pup at Rabbit Ears Basecamp. You are welcome to come back and stay wild with us anytime!
The Trapper Cabin is rustic with modern appliances. The bath is functional and well-maintained. The kitchen area has basics to prepare all your meals there. There is space for two but I wouldn’t have wanted to try to squeeze in a third. We kept a lot of our things in our truck to give us room to move around inside. We didn’t use the common area “Hitching Post” but the guest next door seemed to enjoy it. The cabins are pretty close together so we were closer to our neighbors than we expected but it didn’t cause any issues with noise. Overall, it was a good stay for us.

Rabbit Ears Basecamp is our way of sharing the trails, lakes, and peaceful moments we love with others. While we don’t live on site, we’re close by if you need anything and happy to offer tips for your stay. We hope you’ll find the same small magic here that keeps us coming back.
Why they chose this property
This part of Colorado has always felt like home. When we had the chance to build something lasting here, we knew we wanted to create a place for families, friends, and outdoor lovers to reconnect with nature and each other. The Trapper Cabin was one of the first pieces of that vision. It’s now part of a small collection of unique stays at Rabbit Ears Basecamp, where the wide-open skies and quiet trails invite you to slow down and stay wild.
What makes this property unique
The Trapper Cabin is a one-of-a-kind space with history and heart. Lovingly restored from a 1920s structure, it offers a quiet, private place to unwind that still feels connected to the land. It’s simple and cozy, but not cramped. The porch looks out over open hills and sky, and the light at sunset is something guests often mention as a highlight. Inside, it’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down, cook a small meal, read by the window, or just sit in the quiet. Guests also have access to the Hitchin’ Post, a shared clubhouse with a hot tub, pool table, and fireplace. It’s perfect for couples, solo stays, or anyone looking to unplug without giving up comfort.
