Place was great! Very cozy and the hosts were super nice! We were there in time to help feed the horses and sheep the first day, so that was a bonus. Was also a short drive to 2 very nice restaurants. Definitely recommended!

We came in for my daughter’s dance competition at McGregor Hall. It was so close and convenient to the event. But the best part was the peaceful property and house itself. It was so perfectly clean and we enjoyed the beautiful property so much on our short stay. We enjoyed learning about the history of the home. We loved all the small unique touches and the owners were so personable and awesome to deal with. Keith took up so much time with my daughter and let her feed and pet the horses and sheep. Such an awesome short stay, wished it could have been longer! We will definitely stay there again next time.

The hosts are very welcoming and eager to assist you to ensure you have a great stay. The cottage is a beautiful combination of history and modern convenience. It’s also a wonderful reflection of the town’s history. I’m originally from the area. In addition to a comfortable, peaceful place to stay its connection to the towns history has inspired me to learn more about my home town and family history. Quiet location within 5 to 10 minutes of anything you want to visit in town.

The room was very comfortable, the fireplace was an unexpected plus, and very much appreciated. Internet was fast and the hosts were super nice and friendly. We hope we can stay again! Also if you get the opportunity definitely try to join them for the horse feeding 10/10 one of the highlights of our entire trip to North Carolina.

This place was more than we hoped for by far. We were traveling for the Phoenix BFL and chose this place because of its close proximity to the lake. We messaged Keith and Kathryn to make sure there were electric outlets outside for us to charge batteries etc and about parking as we had 2 boats in tow. They promptly returned answered me with pictures assuring us the place could accommodate us. When we got there we were shocked at how nice this place realy was, they even had some basic food provisions in the fridge for us. We will make sure to book this everytime we come down to this lake in the future. Thank you Keith and Kathryn for your hospitality and kindness. P.s. it was our first time to this lake and we didnt do as good as we wanted to in the tourney, but we had a good time. Maybe God will grace us with a better bounty on the next one.
Keith and Kathryn are amazing hosts and have done such a wonderful job on the cabin. It was spotless! The property is also beautiful and provided us with a really nice little respite from the city. I have no doubt we will be back.

We had a great stay. The cabin was charming, well stocked, and nicely furnished. We hiked the trails around the property with our dogs and very much enjoyed our time there. The porch and garden made a very nice place to sit and relax and watch the hummingbirds. The host are nearby and helpful. We will definitely stay there again.

Walking up to the building you immediately feel the love that was put into restoring this quaint home. Large timbers hold the front porch roof and stone steps carry you past the beautiful garden that greets you. Simple and charming touches throughout. And of course who doesn't love a french doors, or a spacious walk in shower.

Jeff thank you for your appreciation of the cottage, and your care in it as you stayed. It was a pleasure to meet you and we would love to have you back anytime.
I booked a last minute stay here, which was quickly accepted by the hosts and they were very helpful with check-in/out, directions, and giving all the details about the property. From the moment we arrived we instantly felt so welcomed and comfortable. The hosts had the cabin beautifully decorated for the holiday season, and provided us with gas logs for extra heat (although the hotel style a/c unit & space heaters were plenty to keep it warm). Kathryn and Keith were so pleasant and great conversationalist! They respected our privacy, but they also were available to chat whenever needed. We got the chance to meet the animals and even feed them a little snack, it was a fun experience and we are so thankful they allowed us to share this moment with them. Besides the amazing atmosphere and property, it is also full of amenities that I don’t usually see included in short term rentals. Like popcorn kernels, extra hair dryers, plenty of extra blankets, and even coffee grounds and creamer! The bed was comfy, the shower was wonderful and everything was perfectly curated for the unit. We will definitely be back, and we appreciate Kathryn & Keith for their amazing hospitality.

This property was full of history and unique features. There is craftsmanship in each piece, from ceilings using wood repurposed from old barns to the bed headboard made from the door of the original house. You get to know all about the history of the place it used to be. The property is beautiful and lovely to walk around. You might even get to say hello to beautiful horses and a few other friendly animals or enjoy figs from the fig trees if you visit when they are in season. The cabin itself has a small flower/ vegetable garden that you are invited to use. As for the owners Kevin and Kathryn… they are the best hosts. They won’t you to feel completely welcome and you can have as little or as much contact with them as you want. Me, being a semi- social person loved going out and finding them as they worked on their little farmland. They are friendly and knowledgeable and I feel like we were friends from the start. If you’re not feeling social, you’ll never see them unless you have need of something. This was a truly wonderful experience. Accessible for those who might have trouble with stairs or need a bench in the shower. I can’t think of anything negative or needing improvement to say about this place!

About the host
Hosted by Keith Novotny
My Wife and I saved the chimney and fireplace from a historic 1830's cooks Quarters, and built this unique timber framed cabin from almost all reclaimed material. The cabin showcases the many years of history, craftsmanship, and materials from across the country. Some material from the original cottage, and a few tobacco barns from the property are reused in the timber framing, siding, and the headboard on the queen bed is the original door to the cottage. An original Carriage house from Henderson was salvaged and can be seen in the use of the cornices on the eves and as the base to the bathroom vanity. An old farm house in Oxford that was slated to be burned can be seen in the hardwood flooring for the ceiling, the bead-board used as Waynes coating, and various trim work. The trim around the bathroom door came from salvaged materials to a local florist shop Betty B's. Historic railroad plates are accented on the timber joints, and the track on the sliding bathroom barn door came from an old school bus depot from Wisconsin. We hope we made the space comfortable, and also easy enough to sit back and appreciate the history and dedication that so many people before us put into their lives.
