Cute house with nice decor. Neighborhood is a little older and well traveled but quiet during the appropriate hours.

The host removed my passcode and prevented my guests and I from accessing the property. I had asked the host to cancel the booking and if I could book somewhere else. After booking and when I looked on google maps the house next to it is boarded up. A friend who is familiar with the area said it’s not a good area to stay, particularly if I plan on arriving late on a weekend with females that may be alone, which was my case.I contacted the host and expressed my concern. They said it was not a problem and they would cancel and refund my money. The next thing I know the host stated that I was racist by using the phrase my friend told me, “that area is in the ghetto” and refused to allow me in the property I paid for, and refused to provide any refund. VRBO did not have my back and my money was taken and not refunded to the tune of 400.Proceed with caution and make sure you understand where this is based on your needed use. Also be hesitant regarding how you communicate with the host and what you say. Needless to say I am very disappointed in this experience and would not recommend it to anyone, not based on anything except how this was handled by both VRBO, the property manager (advocated for me I think), and the property owner (this is the person who said hard no access and refund).

Dear Mr. Wine, Thank you for sharing your concerns. I want to acknowledge the seriousness of the situation, particularly regarding property access, communication, and how your reservation was handled. At the core of this matter is accountability. As a host, there is a responsibility to ensure that paying guests are treated fairly, provided clear communication, and not denied access without proper resolution. When a cancellation and refund are discussed, there must be follow-through or, at minimum, transparent updates if circumstances change. I also want to address the language referenced in your message. The phrase “ghetto looking” is widely considered derogatory and insensitive. While I understand you were expressing safety concerns based on information shared with you, such wording can escalate situations and shift focus from the original issue. That said, its use does not justify denying access to a paid reservation or withholding a refund without proper process. This situation reflects a breakdown in communication and resolution standards. Regardless of differing perspectives, decisions regarding access and refunds should align with established policies and be handled with fairness and consistency. Your feedback underscores the need for clearer protocols, stronger communication, and mutual respect in all guest-host interactions. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. Sincerely, Owners

This place is amazing. I loved all the details throughout the house. The 3rd bedroom is a couch, not a pull out couch fyi don't think anyone can sleep there confortably. I will definitely stay there again!
