About this property
Cozy Freshwater Bay / Elwha River Cabin
*Please note that there is a 15% discount when booking for 7 nights. For longer rentals and off season reservations please contact owners.
This 1200 sq ft cabin is part of a larger property, with the main house across the street, set on the east end of Freshwater Bay, with views of the Straits and Vancouver Island to the north, and snow-capped Olympic Mountain to the south. While you can hear the waves from the cabin, you must walk to the front of the property to view the beach and watch the sunsets. The Elwha river estuary is a short walk away and is well known for surfing and kite boarding. The dam removal project is complete and the legendary native Chinook salmon have returned ( http://projects.seattletimes.com/2016/elwha/ ). Freshwater Bay Beach is now blanketed with sand from the sediment once trapped behind the dams. The Olympic National Park and surrounds are ideal for bird watching, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, crabbing and fishing. Hurricane Ridge, popular for spring and summer wildflowers, is one of the best spots in the Northwest to cross country ski, snowboard and snowshoe. In the Fall the area is abundant with wild mushrooms. The year-round Port Angeles farmer's market offers wonderful produce to complement your meal of fresh caught salmon and dungeness crab. Victoria BC is a 90 minute ferry ride from downtown Port Angeles. The cabin is perfect for four, but can accommodate up to 5 people. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The larger bedroom has a double bed, the smaller has twin beds, and there is a futon in the living room. The kitchen is well equipped and has culinary basics (flour, oats, sugar, spices etc..). French doors open up to deck with small table and rocking chairs. Guests have access to the no-bank beach, stone grill and fire pit, which are framed by 300 year old wind blown firs. Please note that during our summer there might be countywide open fire restrictions. We will keep you abreast of this situation. We look forward to your visit.

Great property in a beautiful area. The location is great for hiking and seeing different parts of ONP. Perfect to stop in Port Angeles for grocery and plan to cook in. Check in was very easy and the cabin was very clean. Thanks for sharing your place!
The charming and whimsical Freshwater Bay cabin suited our needs perfectly. We love the mix of antique furniture as well as the art work. The cabin provides plenty of comfortable seating and also includes access to a trail to the beach. The hosts, Jean and Ricardo, are most gracious.
This cabin has all you need for your stay. It is a great location for hiking in the mountains and enjoying the beach. Would definitely stay here again.
This cottage is wonderful! Jean and Ricardo were excellent hosts. The cottage was very clean and the full size bed was very comfortable. The location is fantastic. A short walk down a path to a rugged, beautiful beach. Hand made seats wooden seats allow for lots of time soaking in the view. Close to plenty of hiking spots. Very dark and quiet at night, with the sound of surf always just outside.
This is our 2nd stay. We loved staying here both times. Great location, love the area, super close to the beach. The hosts are so nice and helpful with anything you might need. The canton is cute and comfortable with all the things you need for your stay.
The cabin was cozy and clean. It was well stocked with the basics that make for a comfortable and easy stay. We loved having the beach a short walk away to go hang out and explore.
We rented this retreat for its proximity to Olympic National Park. We were delighted with the charming cottage and the beach nearby. Our hosts were friendly and generous. We hope to return to spend more time here.
I grew up coming to Place Rd and playing at this beach in the 90s. So nice to be back. Parking was tight but everyone was friendly and we did not have any issues with parking for us or our guests. The double bed (largest bed) was too small for two adults. A queen sized bed would have made the stay much more comfortable. Absolutely not a deal breaker. Jean and Ricardo are such pleasant, welcoming people. The cabin kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed with working and clean appliances. Check in was easy.
The PERFECT property and location for our family to explore Olympic National Park! We had a wonderful stay and we would definitely choose this property again. Thanks for being amazing hosts Jean and Ricardo!
We loved our stay! It was a great location to see the many parts of Olympic National Park and yet have a low-key relaxing place to return to after hiking. Jean and Richardo were wonderful hosts, accommodating and attentive to anything we needed. They even let us borrow hiking poles for one of our hikes. The evening and early morning beach walks were the best. We would definitely stay again.
Jean & Ricardo were wonderful hosts and the cabin is a cozy, comfortable central location for day trips into ONP and the coast. Beautiful setting, fully set up kitchen, laundry and plenty of space for our family of 4 with 2 adult sons. Short walk down to the beach, and could hear the waves from the porch while drinking our morning coffee. Perfect vacation home away from home!
We really enjoyed our time at this cute retro cabin. It’s roomy and comfortable and super clean. Just what we needed as a base for our adventures.
The beach is a 2 minute walk away and is absolutely beautiful!
Our hosts were amazing - the perfect balance of super helpful and lots of privacy.
Al in all, it was just perfect and we look forward to staying there again.
There is nothing like the Place Road and the beach. Staying at Jean and Ricardo's cottage, it's always like coming home. Thank you for having us.

About the host

After 26 years on Bainbridge Island, we are now living full time in Port Angeles. Our children grew up snowboarding (while we snowshoed) on Hurricane Ridge and we we enjoyed camping and hiking throughout the Olympic Peninsula.
Why they chose this property
It is rare to find a no bank beach along the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The Olympic National Park is an amazing treasure and it is literally in our back yard. You can walk the entire 3.8 miles of Freshwater Bay (at 5' tide or lower) and see unique rock formations and sea creature laden tide pools. Since the removal of the Elwha river dams we have a wonderful sandy beach.
What makes this property unique
You can bring your kayak, paddle out, drop a crab pot, and a couple of hours later haul in your 'limit', boil them up and sit at the picnic table on the beach enjoying your uniquely Northwest meal.
