Beautiful location

We had a great stay at Savage Hart Farm. The hosts were very welcoming and even pulled the sleds out so we could have some fun in the snow. I would recommend this comfortable apartment for a small family or couple to visit.

Hillside heaven

Quiet, pastoral retreat but within a short drive of Woodstock, Quechee and Hanover. We loved the quiet company of the sheep on site and the amazing views. Apartment is well stocked and the guides to local restaurants and hiking were very thoughtful. A great place to hide from the world for a few days.

Fantastic, relaxing, scenic stay

We (3 adults) stayed at Todd & Peggy's apartment and were so happy we did. The apartment had a great living room, kitchen space, full bathroom, and master bedroom. The property is stunning, on top of a little hill with an incredible panoramic view of rolling hills and trees. It was quiet and peaceful. We would love to stay here again in any season.

Savage Hart: The Essence of Vermont

A stunningly beautiful setting in the hills of central Vermont, Savage Hart served as both a respite from the world and the HQ of our exploration of the Quechee-Hartford-Woodstock area. The owners, Todd & Peggy, are serious sheep farmers and delightful hosts filled with recommendations of places to go, and a font of information on sheep. We highly recommend Savage Hart. The apartment is comfortable and very well equipped. The photos on the website do not do it justice. The sunset alone is worth the visit. As Todd said, "It's why we live here."

3 days at Savage Hart Farm

Todd and Peg are kind and gracious hosts. Communication was always quick and concise. During our stay Todd gave my wife a tour of their sheep operation and we had another nice chat in the driveway as we crossed paths with both of them. I mention this because I am a little leary of staying at properties which are connected to the host's residence. Todd and Peg have just the right balance of being available but not hovering. They are a very interesting couple with a great story of how they got to this place in their lives. Even though the house is in a very quiet country setting you are just a short drive to lots of food options and sightseeing. The description and pictures on VRBO are very accurate for this quaint getaway.

Beautiful WInter wonderland

Savage Hart Farm is set high on a Vermont hill in the countryside not far from Dartmouth. The views are spectacular and the house is lovely. We were there during a snowstorm so spent a good deal of time around the property. We took two great winter walks and got to help feed the sheep. It was a short derive into Hanover where the Dartmouth winter carnival was going on and the restaurants and shops are lovely, and into Norwich - a quaint town with a winter farmer's market and a general store that has EVERYTHING you can think of - a destination in itself. The King Arthur Flour mill is nearby where there are tours and baking classes. Todd and Peggy were the perfect hosts and the sheep are delightful to watch. We are looking forward to returning in the warmer months.

Ewe Don't Want To Miss This One!

Ok, Dartmouth Parents! Listen up! I know I will regret writing this review in the near future, because some of you will block a weekend I want to rent; nonetheless, it would haunt me if I did not share this VRBO listing. We have rented places through VRBO on two continents, and this farm apartment rates as one of our two favorite spots….ever. The apartment on the farm is clean, well stocked, comfortable, and overlooks one of the most memorable New England views you can imagine. Peggy and Todd are quick to offer assistance. Do you want to hike part of the AT or find an excellent restaurant nearby? They can help. Do you want to embed yourself into this pastoral scene? Would you like to meet the other tenants, the sheep? If you want to meet the flock, Peggy and Todd will make it happen. If you meet Martha, the alpha ewe, you are guaranteed some attitude, a foot stomping (her foot, not yours) and a chance to meet the rest of the “girls.” The sheep are raised specifically for their beautiful fleece. If you want to buy some yarn spun from one of the girls, you can do so. Currently, my mother-in-law is knitting up a bit of “Jackie. “ Our daughter is a member of both the track and cross-country teams at Dartmouth. Here, at Savage Farm, we found a place where we could not only be ten minutes away from campus, (ask Todd and Peggy for the “real” way to drive out. Do not take the freeway!) we could sleep soundly in our countryside home, enjoy the best star-filled sky we have seen in years and cook our own meals when we wanted. Ultimately, we were able to host fourteen members of the Dartmouth Cross County team for brunch. Check out post by Todd. http://savagehartfarm.com/flock-meets-team/ It is always a treat to head north to visit Hanover and Dartmouth. If you are interested in making your trip unforgettable, try a stay at Savage Hart Farm. If you experience the magic, you’ll want to return. If you block the next weekend we hope to return, we may be forced to notify Martha to share with you our discontent. Enjoy your stay.

Absolutely lovely apartment in a wonderful location. I was visiting Dartmouth and it was easy to get to and from campus, and it was just perfect to have my own little escape to come back to each night. There were so many thoughtful touches throughout the accommodation: every time I'd think to myself, "I need a..." I would look in the first place that made sense and voila, there the item would be. I loved standing outside at night and letting my eyes adjust so I could see the Milky Way, and I was so, so thrilled to meet the owners' absolutely delightful dogs. I would very happily stay here again.

We had a lovely stay at Savage Hart Farm. The apartment was spacious and well maintained and had everything we needed for our 10 day stay. Todd was so kind as to give us a tour of their fiber mill in White River Junction which was very interesting to me as a knitter/spinner. Would definitely recommend!

Great spot!

Lovely place to stay. Very clean and comfortable. Perfect for two people, manageable for four. We arrived on one of the hotter days of the summer. The mountains were lush and green (as the name Green Mountain suggests :). So this is a great place if you want solitude and some well-placed Adirondack chairs. My one note is the air conditioning seemed to struggle against one of the hottest days of the year. It was tolerable, but not entirely comfortable for us (but we keep a cool house.) Others might not mind. One note on the area, lots of restaurants and places are closed earlier in the week during the summer. I guess we should have anticipated that but that limited our choices a bit. But we enjoyed nice day trips to Burlington, Waterbury, Hanover, etc. Highly recommend. And the sheep are great neighbors!

About the host

Hosted by Todd & Peggy Allen

Host profile image
Savage Hart Farm’s owner/operators – Peggy and Todd Allen – have turned a beautiful post and beam 4-bedroom home on 32 acres into a working farm with a vacation rental apartment. We moved onto the farm in July of 2012, and only a month later we were joined by our “starter” flock consisting mostly of colored Corriedale sheep. By October, we had built a small barn and installed about 4000 feet of permanent fencing to get us through our first winter. With 25 acres of grass, the sheep have plenty of room to grow. We produce and sell beautiful natural colored and dyed yarns, lambskin rugs, hand-knitted/felted hats, and lamb sausage.

Why they chose this property

This is a quintessential Vermont setting with all the modern amenities and just minutes away from several of towns, and dozens of activities and outdoor fun.

What makes this property unique

You know it's special when the local folks come visit and say, 'I had no idea there was a view like this!'

Easy to get to (close to the intersection of I-89 and I-91) but so far away from it all!

The views are to die for!
