About this property
Casa del Sol: Location Location! Beachfront/Walking Distance to Everything!
Casa del Sol is an ideal balance of privacy and access! This location is central for wind sports and other outdoor activities. The beach is down a dozen stairs from the patio gate; the property is just high enough off the beach for privacy from people walking by, yet you can see out over the action as much as you want.
The main rental has two bedrooms and two baths and sleeps up to six adults. The front bedroom is roomy with handmade furniture including a king size bed, and has a private bathroom; the front room has open living and dining areas and a full kitchen. The second bedroom, next to a courtyard, has two double beds, private entrance, and full bath. Air beds and cots available for a nominal fee.
We are now offering the upstairs as optional additional space with rentals. We are not renting it separately, in order to maintain the private feel of the setting (sometimes the owners or family members might be staying upstairs, and we will respect your privacy and quiet). It is a spacious studio apartment with high ceilings, lots of light, and stunning views. King-sized bed; loveseat and chairs; folding tables; kitchen with stove and fridge (no oven); spacious balcony with furniture and hammock. Ask about the upstairs if you're interested, with your booking inquiry. We have to edit the quote manually because vrbo doesn’t have a way to handle add-ons.
Relax on the tiled patio under the shade of a traditional palapa roof, with outdoor dining furniture and sweeping vistas. Side yard with spacious patio, coconut and fan palms, quintessential hammock between palms with a view of the bay, and outdoor furniture.
Shady and sheltered outdoor areas offer a break from sun and wind, and a cozy living room offers space for reading or games, all with stunning views of sea and mountains. Walking distance (via beach or small town roads) to fresh fish, restaurants and night life, small grocery. Paddleboards and kayaks included with rental, as well as a gas grill and snorkeling equipment. Many optional amenities such as at-home (indoor or outdoor) massage, fresh local catering or in-home cooking, private lessons, and help with planning other activities.

About the host
Hosted by Em

I first came to La Ventana for a windsurfing clinic, but broke my foot three days beforehand so I didn't windsurf much (I did try a little, though!) and I had lots of time to limp around with my boot and my walking poles and explore the area. Needless to say, the beauty and tranquility as well as the soft sand and delightful water called to me.
Why they chose this property
This is a sweet place bordered by unassuming stucco walls with just the right amount of privacy. At first I wanted to open it all up, but after spending some time there I realized that it had been designed brilliantly for privacy and quiet, while maintaining the outstanding vistas and the ability to gaze at the beach and activity.
Built by a Mexican engineer and his architect/artist daughter when they lived in La Paz, it looks simple yet a lot of thought has gone into making the space flow. Handsome and functional, it is not full of slick modern design, but rather fitting to its roots in a small fishing village.
We've updated it over the years, adding features and space, gradually refurbishing some of the original materials that are worn, and retaining original touches such as the handmade floor tile.
The lot extends from the town's dirt road all the way to the beach. There is a neighbor's house on the North, not lived in much of the time, and on the South there is an acceso, a rudimentary dirt road to the beach for public access. The acceso creates space between Casa del Sol and the next building to the South. (Neither of those neighbors was there when I first arrived!)
The acceso is traveled by kiters and villagers. Local fishers mostly use the new public ramp 100 meters north, but sometimes launch from the beach out front.
Someone from the local tortilleria drives down the road selling fresh warm tortillas in the morning, and Sylvano comes by in his truck three times a week (Nov-Feb) with produce, fresh-squeezed juice, and homemade tamales. The Thursday morning Farmers' Market is within walking distance, bustling with raw and prepared food and crafts. Within walking distance of several restaurants and taquerias.
