Ocean View Villa with 6 bedrooms, Infinity Pool, WiFi 100mb, AC

Casa Moana is a private high end ocean view house including all mod cons. The house offers both privacy and the convenience of being located only 1.5kms from the centre of town. The house is situated on a private hilltop.
The house spans over 500m2 (5400 sq feet) and contains 5 ocean view, all en-suite bedrooms, which come with AC, ceiling fan, writing desk, and private balcony.
It can accommodate up to 12 guests.
The master bedroom is a large breezy room with kingsize bed, beautiful wooden floors, chaise longue, TV, AC, WiFi. The master bathroom has two walk in showers, 2 sinks, a two person Jacuzzi and a walk in closet.

Three of the other bedrooms also have kingsize beds while there are another two rooms that have two single beds. There is also a children's cot that can also be added to any of the rooms.
The house has a large fully equipped kitchen with an island bar, dining area, a large lounge area with satellite TV, DVD player, CD player, WiFi, utilities room and a safe box.

Upstairs there is a second patio area for sunbathing and an open rancho style lounge with seats and hammocks where you can laze out and enjoy the sunset or the stars at night.
Outside in the patio and garden area there is a 6 person breakfast table, BBQ, infinity pool, pool loungers, 6 person Jacuzzi and an enclosed garden with a kids swing. There is also a carpark which holds up to four cars.

Very nice place. Host was great and the place worth the money. Villa is very large, clean, and dog friendly. I recommend to Rent ATV. I have a Honda Odyssey with 3500cc motor. I thought I could climb up however I almost broke the car. Also you should visit santa teresa beach and also mal pais.

Amazing Getaway!

This house was absolutely amazing! We booked this trip to celebrate my wife's Birthday and all had a fantastic time! The views were gorgeous in every direction and the location was perfectly located just outside of town. The house itself was incredibly spacious and accommodating for my wife, myself and five friends (and we could have easily fit more). There was a very private feel at the house while the location allowed us to easily access all that town has to offer. Our hosts, Pat and Mati were very attentive regarding any requests that we had while maintaining a genuine respect for our privacy. It was a perfect balance. Pat and Mati helped us set up our ATV rental which was conveniently delivered to and picked up from the house. They also had fantastic restaurant recommendations and were more than willing to help us out answering any other questions that we had. I would note just as other have in their reviews that it would be very much recommended to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle to access the house as there some inclines and rocky terrain but this just added to the adventure.All in all, we can't say enough about this property and our kind hosts. Thanks again and we hope to come back for another visit soon! Pura Vida!

The views are the best!

We stayed for a month with friends and family coming and going. There was plenty of space for each of us to have our privacy while still being able to gather for dinner and hang out together. The pool was a nice surprise with it being about 8’ deep on one end. It’s close enough to walk down to the beach through the hotel below. The staff there are so helpful and welcoming. A/C in each of the rooms make it nice for sleeping. Last but not least, the view from there is truly spectacular!

Breathtaking house trouble checking in

The house in Malpais is absolutely breathtaking! The views are incredible, the house is perfect, and the accommodations were better than expected. We did have some troubles upon check in. When I checked in at the house, after a very long drive, I was told that the VRBO property manager did not tell John, the hotel manager, of our arrival and we ended up spending the first night in the hotel as the house was not yet ready for us. This was very disappointing but overall the rest of the week was incredible and would love to go back!

Two families for New Years week

The house is amazing. View and pool spectacular. Rooms clean and comfortable. Cindy the manager helped us with everything an d was wonderful to work with . Set up amazing cooking class with Barb, our dinners, surfing lessons, massages, fishing and zip lining. The house is just above the hotel so nice to be able to walk down to bar/restaurant. Food there was excellent!!! We had tire issues on way there and staff helped us get that situated too! Note: you absolutely need 4x4 to get to the house. We parked our non 4x4 at hotel and walked up but it is VERY steep. Probably should have taken shuttle from airport and rented ATVs for the week instead. Wish there had been more chaises by the pool for everyone to have place to lounge. And yes WiFi did not always function but that seemed to be global issue not specific to house.

Adventures in Paradise

Our three generation family traveled to Malpais as this year's annual week-at-the-beach to reconnect and have fun. The setting of Casa Moana couldn't have been more perfect for teenagers through the generations to grandparents. The house was absolutely lovely, equipped with everything we could possibly need. Jon was always readily responsive to all of our needs, and arranged for tours (canopy tour and zip lining, snorkeling and whale watching, surfing lessons for our 2 oldest grandsons, and a tour to the waterfalls and cliff jumping. In between all this activity the lovely pool was waiting for us, to begin and end our days. I must reinforce the other reviews for this house …. believe us all when we say ATVs are a must, and the preferred way to get around town and to the beaches. It is really not walkable, and the roads are a challenge until you get used to them. With that said, our boys thoroughly enjoyed "chauffeuring" the rest of us around on the ATVs after very quickly becoming acclimated. Cabs are also easy to call and very responsive, should you choose not to drive into town for dinner. I would also caution renters to determine whether the hotel below is open and the restaurant available for meals if you are travelling during the off season as we were. We were able, however, to walk up the driveway to another hotel with bar and restaurant in the property next door. All in all, nevertheless, this was a most marvelous trip and family experience. Amazing place to stay

Pros: amazing view of the ocean, great pool, and great open living plan- couldn’t hear anyone in their rooms and it was very private. The bathrooms were really nice and the maids cleaned so well every time they were there. There’s also some cool bugs, monkeys, and iguanas around the property which was cool to see! Easy to set up activities with the manager. Cons: road up requires 4x4 unlike roads in town; these are small nit picky things but WiFi doesn’t reach all rooms and the main fridge was not cold enough but there was a back up fridge for ice and keeping things cold. Overall an amazing house and we had a fabulous time!

Loved the house! Perfect for our 3 families. The view was awesome, would definitely come back again.

Thoroughly enjoyed our time in MalPais. The house was our own private resort, with stunning views. The weather was great. we even got to see an electrical storm - thanks Aidan! I’m sure you had that set up for us. 😊 We enjoyed the MalPais zip lining, walking in the protected national park in Cabuya, and a trek to Montezuma. Highly recommend quads and/or the side by side 4 wheel vehicle to cruise around in. Perfect family vacation.

The Perfect House!

Wow! This house was amazing! Plenty of room for our family of 10. A well stocked kitchen made cooking a breeze. All of the rooms and bathrooms were spacious and comfortable. The staff at hotel Moana was friendly and helpful. I only wish that we could've stayed longer.

This experience was exactly what I wanted for my family. There were 11 of us 6 adults and 5 kids 10 to 17. It was quite an experience getting there, but I wouldn't change it for the world. The roads are a challenge and the driveway it an amazing experience. That being said I wouldn't want to do it in the rainy season. Always rent a 4x4 otherwise it will be a real drill. The house is amazing with room for 11 with no problems and views that kept me at the house for 10 days we were there. The rest of the family did everything that was offered in the area. None of us wanted to leave, but were off to the next adventure. Enjoy your stay we sure did.

Wonderful ocean views in a quiet elegant setting

We had an amazing time - we were two families for a week over New Year's Eve. The house was just as shown - well appointed, very spacious and private with an incredible view and stunning sunsets - perfectly watched from the infinity pool where we had a hard time distinguishing the edge of the pool to the ocean - true infinity. We walked down to Hotel Moana Papaya lounge for several meals and the staff there were super friendly and the meals great (with nearby monkey displays to make the breakfasts even more memorable). As well the Hotel staff at the registration desk (Cindy and Maria) helped us to arrange local transport for regular surf lessons. We also had Ono Cuisine come to prepare a few meals and Thor and Maria did not disappoint. We organized lots of day trips - birding, surfing, hiking - through Anywhere Costa Rica - we would highly recommend them. All in all a wonderful stay and we would not hesitate to return.

Well laid out for a large family group so there is a feel of privacy and connection at the same time

Stayed with a multi-generation family group of 8. Enjoyed the layout of the bedrooms and bathrooms - we all had our space. Central kitchen, dining and lounge overlooking the pool and ocean view is ideal for a group. Laundry onsite and driveway space for cars/atv’s. Upper level ‘hacienda’ is a lovely spot with shade and usually a breeze. The location is both a blessing and a curse. The views, breeze and fresh (read not dusty) air is wonderful. However there is a lack of trees for shade and the roadway in/up from the main road is brutal and frankly dangerous. Also to walk down to the hotel/restaurant from the house, one needs to walk on a steep rocky dirt path (unlit) entering the restaurant at the service entrance to the kitchen. The kitchen needs some immediate sprucing up including more/better contents. Amount and quality of towels needs improvement. Surprised that there was no propane for cooking on our arrival and it took several days to rectify. Would not recommend for anyone with mobility issues- this applies in general to Mal Pais as the roads are very pitted/potholes and cause jarring rides. Within walking distance of the main drag of shops/restaurants/Carmen beach for those in shape (2km) and willing to get very hot and covered in roadway dust/dirt and playing a bit of ‘Frogger’!! Atv’s are great to get groceries (very few taxis available). Excellent restaurants including Moana, The Bakery, Mary’s, Caracolas. Lovely people and generally great service. Running shoes and/or sport sandles are a must - if you’re an individual/family who likes pristine high end high heeled glamour then this town is not for you. If you are in good shape, like to be active and don’t mind a bit of dust and dirt then you will see past the potholes and be able to soak up all this town has to offer! Truly a memorable trip for our group aged 14-77!!!

Great Family Vacation

We just returned from 2 weeks at Casa Moana and it was awesome. We had 2 separate families and 3 kids under 3 years old. The owner Aiden was responsive to my questions and helped me sort out a snafu with my payment which was appreciated. Highlights: Excellent staff, ability to order room service from the restaurant which was super tasty and unexpected, huge infinity pool overlooking the entire Mal Pais / Santa teresa Coast, gorgeous sunsets. The house was one of the few I have found to be safe for young children and they erected a temporary but effective fence to prevent toddlers from roaming into the pool. The house is HUGE and all the suites have separate entrances/locks so it feels like a private bed a breakfast. We saw all sorts of animals and wildlife on the property. The cleaning staff did an amazing job of keeping the property immaculate. There were a couple things that broke or didn't work great but Carla and the staff we on top of everything and it's the middle of the jungle so we didn't expect things to happen overnight. The property is perched on top of a ridge so the road can be a little dicey coming in. There's a big drop off the back side of the road as you enter the property but we found it only added to the charm of the adventure that is Costa Rica and it keeps you paying attention! Having rented many different homes now in Costa Rica this one was hands down the nicest with a lovely group of people to help you find your way around town. Book it now!

Best vacation ever!!

For my husbands 50th birthday, we chose to spend 7 days and celebrate at Casa Moana with six of our close friends. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time at the house as well as visiting the local villages. The house created the ultimate location to meet in the pool/jacuzzi, gather for meals in the spacious kitchen and dining room or relax in the indoor and outdoor living areas. The house and rooms were all spacious. We all thought the pictures of Casa Moana simply do not do the home justice and the views from all rooms and the pool take your breath away. All bedrooms have their own air conditioning units and sleeping is divine. We all meet up for breakfast at the Papaya Lounge each morning at Hotel Moana, highly recommended. We rented 4 wheelers in Santa Teresa and easily navigated the driveway to the home as well as touring Mal Pais. Bruno and staff were exceptional! Recommend you set up massages on day one and the day before you leave (more if you can). Having a massage with the light breeze and sounds of the ocean & infinity pool, amazing! We also set up having Nellie prepare dinner for us one evening. Delicious and fine dining without the need to leave your home. One of our friends ranked the meal in the top 3 he ever had in his life! For any excursion you need, just call Bruno & he will set all logistics up for you. So simple! My husband had a birthday to remember and the rest of the party were also thoroughly impressed with our vacation. I can honestly say that we all had a difficult time leaving Casa Moana and Mal Pais. Counting the days until we can return.

Just Fabulous!!!

Just got back from a week at Casa Moana... The pictures that Aidon posted on Vrbo does not do the home justice. The house is so much grandeur than what you would expect...Its actually huge! The house is also built like a hotel, so that all the rooms are not next to each other, (everyone has their privacy).. Pool and outdoor area's are fantastic... I think that Casa Moana probably has the best sunset and moon views around...easy walk into town 15-20 minutes, if you do not have a car....5 minutes down the road if you do have one, make sure its a 4 wheel drive or you wont be able to get to the house... I have traveled are around the world and this is one of the nicest places I have stayed... XXXXX 5 stars !!!!

We also own Hotel Moana here in Mal Pais which we took over in 2006. I hail from Ireland while Vicky is a Costa Rican native. Both Aidan and Vicky have a history in the hospitality as weve been running our hotel and restaurant for the last 8 years.

Why they chose this property

We first bought the hotel in 2005 and we had to patiently wait to buy the land for the house. Once we managed to buy the land in 2010 I wanted to realize my dream of building a beautiful and functional house on this amazing hill top for all to enjoy the incredible views. I then designed the house and had it built in 2011 and we've decided this year to open it up to the public.

What makes this property unique

Over the last 10 years Ive been building and developing here in Costa Rica. I took that experience to design a house that can provide the upmost comfort but yet be stylish and welcoming. The rewarding part now is when I sit out and enjoy my morning coffee as I watch the waves break all along the coast line, heaven!
