About this property
Lovely historic upstairs apartment with character
About this space
As guests, you will have the entering upstairs of our historic Arts and Crafts-style bungalow to yourselves, approximately 800sq feet. The front door is shared with the hosts and the stairs to the apartment are within two steps of entering the house. The upstairs apartment has its own locked door and guests will have keys to the front door as well as the apartment. This is not handicapped accessible and involves a flight of stairs to the second floor.
The space
The upstairs consists of a bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, and living area that can be used as a second bedroom. It is a light and breezy area with rows of windows in every room. There is a single bed in the living area. There is also a futon that can be made up if requested ahead of time. Use of the futon as a bed must be requested before arriving.
NOTE THE LOW CEILING AND THE HAND HELD SHOWER AND SEAT IN THE BATHTUB.
Guest access
This is the entire upstairs of the house which is approximately 800sq feet. Access is immediately after entering the shared front door.
Other things to note
Note that the shower is a sit-down hand held shower head due to the low ceiling in that part of the house. There is also a bathtub.
There is not television in this unit. There is reliable WiFi.
If you are requiring more sleeping arrangements beyond the queen bed and single bed, please let us know in advance so that we can make up the futon . A fourth guest is possible with an additional charge if two people are using the queen bed.
Guests staying 7 days or longer are welcome to use the washer and dryer located in the basement. We are also asking guests who stay longer than one week to strip their beds and pile the sheets and towels on the floor on the landing. Also, please wash the dishes you have used. Thank you.

About the host
Hosted by Kris Hallenburg
Paul and I have been hosting travelers since 2019. This is Paul’s family home and we enjoy sharing it. We love traveling and exploring new places. We both have lived in British Colombia for seven years. I have lived in New Zealand, Samoa, and Mexico as well as traveling around the world. I am a semi retired psychologist and Paul retired a few years ago. We spend our time reading, socializing with friends, gardening, and hiking with our dog.
Why they chose this property
The Friendly Street neighborhood is a considered a model neighborhood by the city of Eugene. It is a safe walkable neighborhood with beautiful trees and gardens and one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city. There are restaurants within walking distance, a natural food store, two corner stores, and Friendly Gardens with food carts and live music on the weekends. It is approximately two miles to the University of Oregon campus and Hayward Field.
What makes this property unique
Our house is an historic craftsman bungalow built in 1917 and the third oldest home in the neighborhood. It is a great place to stay for those who appreciate vintage homes. It is very quiet and nicely landscaped with gardens in the front and back yards. Outdoor sitting areas are private and comfortable.
