Summary:

Headlands View Home

The Space:

*Please note that there may be guests staying in Headlands View Cottage during your stay. The cottage is a detached building with its own private entrance. Cottage guests will not have access to the home’s large deck that separates the two buildings.

Escape to this beautiful home and enjoy the best of two worlds - both Mendocino Village and Mendocino Headlands State Park are literally at your doorstep! Take a five-minute walk to a picturesque nearby beach, stunning cliff-side bluffs, or along the expansive state park just across the street. Or if you prefer, stroll in the other direction to quaint cafés, bakeries, boutiques, restaurants, and galleries.

This home, an historical landmark built in 1881, has just the right blend of style, luxury, and rustic character. It is the perfect destination for that much-needed family vacation or heartwarming reunion of friends. Headlands View Home boasts plenty of spaces to gather together and also enjoy a bit of privacy and quiet reflection over the course of your stay - you choose! There is a large living area with both a wood-burning fireplace and zoned central heating, not to mention, gorgeous views! In a second living area, you’ll discover a gas fireplace and a small desk. Step outdoors and enjoy multiple decks with chairs and benches. Some guests could easily watch TV or play games in one living area while others read, listen to music, or reminisce in the other living area.

The fully equipped kitchen has everything you will need to cook up many satisfying meals. Fourteen people can eat together using the kitchen table with leaf extensions and an adjoining bar. If you prefer cooking outdoors, just head to the back deck and turn on the gas grill.

The house provides a wide variety of sleeping accommodations. Note that most bedrooms are actually open lofts. The north wing has a bed in an open loft and a double sofabed downstairs, complete with a comfy memory foam mattress. Next to the kitchen is a small bedroom. Head upstairs to find two open lofts!

Great stay on the headlands

Our family enjoyed this cozy little space at the end of town. The house had plenty of space for all of us and was stocked well with the necessities. We walked out to watch the sunset each day and loved spending time in beautiful Mendocino.

Loved the location of this home and the way it is presented!

I would gladly stay at this property once more! It was comfortable, clean, and a super nice location for a stay in Mendocino. All the things people come to Mendocino for were showcased here - the quaint buildings especially. This neighborhood offers great walking and easy access to everything in town and nearby areas.

Perfect

This place is a perfect peaceful gem! It was spotless, cozy, and the location couldn’t have been better. We enjoyed being able to walk straight out onto the Headlands Trail, sleeping in comfy beds, cooking nightly in the well appointed kitchen, and relaxing in the hot tub and sauna. We would love to return again.

Great house in a great location

Funky but nice. Really enjoyed the proximity to the headlands and town. Overall we loved the house and had a wonderful stay but here are a few things that need attention: Several of the outlets don’t work. The body product dispensers in the smaller bathroom would not dispense. There was a bug in the fold out bed. The wood was wet and difficult to start. That curled rug in the living room definitely needs to be tacked down before it causes a serious accident. The house was well equipped and we loved the hot tub..

Great overnight in Mendicino

Nice home, good views and easy access to town services. Check-in time at 4pm is an hour too late and Check-out time at 10 am is an hour too early. All else was fantastic!

House with lots of history, many nooks & crannies, and stairs

A patched-together assemblage of rooms connected by steps & corridors; we started sleeping in the upstairs larger bedroom, but after my wife slipped on the carpeted stairs, she moved to the front bedroom downstairs. There are lots of amenities in this house, but it would be best for a family with lots of kids. For us older folks who were there for the view and the walks, a place actually facing the headlands would be better. In spite of the name of this house, it is not in the front row of houses facing the headlands; there is only one window in the main living room that faces out obliquely towards the ocean and the headlands. All other windows face other houses and roads. Not what I would have chosen if I had understood the site and the photos better.

Wonderful place - Vacasa SUCKS

I really hate that vacation property management corporations can cross-advertise their stuff on VRBO, since it absolutely goes against the very name of "Vacation Rentals BY OWNER." Not being able to deal with the owner directly is very difficult when extenuating circumstances arise (and boy, did they arise for me), and Vacasa is really really terrible at customer service. I had no issues with VRBO and they tried their hardest to help me, but Vacasa was simply MIA and unreachable for a week while I was trying to figure out if I could reschedule or cancel and get my desposit back, due to deaths in the family 2 weeks before the trip was scheduled. Because Vacasa took so long to answer my requests, I ended up having to make arrangements to keep the trip so I wouldn't lose my money. It was really awful to have to deal with crappy customer service during a time of immense grief. I hate Vacasa, and if the real owner ever sees this, I hope they will choose a different property management company. Everything else about the house was perfect. It's an ideal setup for a multi-family vacation. There's a whole separate studio apartment (with fridge and sink, and full bathroom) that is completely separate from the bigger part of the house. The only bedroom with a door that closes has only a double bed in it, and there probably isn't room for anything bigger. I found the bed to be too hard. The pillows were great, and ample! Be careful to duck when you go upstairs to the loft bedrooms - we had someone crack their skull so hard they nearly fainted. Overall, it's a great place in a great location. I'm up in the air about whether I'll ever give money to Vacasa again.

Gorgeous and relaxing

Couldn’t have asked for a better birthday weekend stay for my husband. The house had everything we needed to make an awesome seafood chowder, the location was perfect for long sunny walks on the seaside and around town and the hot tub was a cherry on top. Would Absolutey stay here again!

Perfect nest in Mendocino

My family (husband, 11-year-old daughter, and bulldog) stayed here for an impromptu getaway in Mendocino mid-January 2022. This property is perfect! It's steps away from the bluffs above the Pacific, with world-class views. We were able to hear the ocean crash from the home, which was a highlight for us. The kitchen has everything you'll need to cook a complete meal, and even entertain if you choose. The appliances are modern and everything was clean. The historical home, with its nooks and crannies and darling architecture, provided some fun exploration for our daughter. We cozied up by the wood-burning stove at night, and woke up to crashing waves and a gorgeous walk in the mornings. The home is within easy walking distance to anything in downtown Mendocino. It was the perfect location for us to have a weekend of rejuvenation and exploration.

Simply the best!

My spouse and myself, and adult children and significant others, had the most wonderful time at this lovely home. We have stayed in many homes in Mendocino, and this is my favorite, 'rustic' as it may be. It is the best location also! I hope to stay here again.

So relaxing!

Our family (and dog) stayed at this beautiful historic home on the Mendocino headlands to get away from it all (COVID, the election, 2020 in general). It was November when we stayed and I worried that we would be cold, but the heating systems, wood burning stove and heaters in each bathroom kept the home perfectly warm. The house is very clean. The kitchen is extremely well-equipped. The beds are comfortable. The living room has a view of the headlands - you can see Point Cabrillo lighthouse right from the couch! We hiked, we wandered into town, we ate, we stargazed, and we relaxed. Blissful!
