About the host
Hosted by Scott Armstrong
Hi, I'm Scott, from Washington State, USA! I'm a hiker, traveler, and professional pilot who also has a love for cabins and fixing up old houses. Nature and local history are two of my greatest passions, so it's a privilege to be able to host folks from around the world to show them what the Pacific Northwest has to offer!
Why they chose this property
Ashford is a sleepy little mountain town with a long history dating back to the logging days of the late 1800s, and long ago, was the terminus for the railroad bringing visitors in to see the majesty of Mt. Rainier, or "Tahoma" as the native peoples called it. It is an area of immense beauty, history, and serenity, surrounded by nature, friendly folks, and sitting humbly below our majestic Mountain.
What makes this property unique
The main house at Ashford Lodge was built in 1917 out of the immense old-growth Douglas Fir trees that once covered the landscape, and as such, is truly connected to the land itself. Over the years it has been the home of loggers, farmers, and more recently, has welcomed visitors from near and far looking for a rustic mountain escape at the base of Mt. Rainier. The guest house, garage, and barn were built in the 1980s by the Osterhaus family, who owned the property for many years and turned it into a beloved local bed and breakfast. I bought the property in 2021 and have done my best to honor its history and rustic charm while giving it some modern updates and giving visitors a great place to stay while visiting The Mountain. Walk the trails of our property, crane your neck at the towering trees (a veritable botanical garden with dozens of species), breathe the fresh air, chat with our friendly staff, meet our adorable lodge cat "Dude", and relax by the fire... You will see why this place is special.
