Obie Bowman-designed home with private hot tub near Black Point
Summary:
Catch the sunset over the Pacific every evening from your own private deck. Soak in the hot tub as the sun dips below the Pacific. A warm fire and ocean views anchor cozy evenings in. Room for 6 in this 3-bedroom home. Near the heated community pool. Sea Ranch's iconic trails, tidepools, and heated pools are all at your doorstep. The rugged Sonoma coastline unfolds from the deck -- raw, dramatic, and endlessly watchable.
The Space:
A marvelous classic Sea Ranch home, Vista Grande is, with sweeping white water views of Black Point. This three bedroom house features striking architecture, lots of natural wood, a stone fireplace, a hot tub, and a sauna (at Sea Ranch rec centers).
This home has an open and complete cook's kitchen with a spacious eating area that has a ocean view. The large table in the eating area is a natural gathering place to talk over a cup of coffee, read the newspaper, listen to your favorite songs on the CD/MP3 player or have a poker tournament. In addition to the spacious kitchen/dining area, there is a separate formal dining room.
The fireplace in the living room warms the serene reading areas. Curl up in the window seat with a book or pair of binoculars to look for whales or watch the hawks, rabbits and deer that pass through the meadow.
The master bedroom features a California king bed, wood burning stove, CD player/radio and views of the ocean. The second bedroom has another California king bed, and the third bedroom is a comfortable loft with a queen bed and ocean view. Up to six guests can stay here comfortably.
Enjoy the view from the hot tub or relax in the sauna (at Sea Ranch rec centers). There are two decks, which are nice places to sit and watch the sunset as the waves crash over Black Point.
Designed by Donald Sandy Jr. and built by Helmut Emke in 1968, Vista Grande also features two additions over the years, both designed by Obie Bowman.

The Neighborhood:
Stretching along ten miles of the Sonoma Coast, The Sea Ranch offers a rare blend of coastal wilderness and thoughtfully designed homes. Nearby highlights include community heated pool and hot tub (South) (2-minute drive), Pebble Beach access trail (2-minute drive), Black Point headland trails (3-minute drive). Explore over Sea Ranch's 50 miles of trails, discover tidepools at low tide, swim in heated community pools, and end the day with dinner at The Sea Ranch Lodge. Stock up in Gualala, just 10 minutes south, where you'll find grocery stores, restaurants, a hardware store, and gas. Bodega Bay is a beautiful drive for fresh seafood.
Getting Around:
Plan for a 2.5-hour drive from San Francisco (Highway 101 to Highway 1). If flying, Santa Rosa's Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) is the closest option at about 90 minutes east. You'll want a car here -- the winding coastal roads are half the adventure.
Other Things to Note:
Sea Ranch has three recreation centers with heated pools, saunas, and tennis courts. Access passes are provided with your stay -- check availability upon arrival as these shared amenities can be popular during peak times.
Exterior lighting is minimal by design to preserve the stunning dark sky -- bring a flashlight for evening walks and enjoy some of the best stargazing on the California coast.
December through April is whale season. You may spot gray whales breaching right from the bluff trail nearby. Wildflower season (April-June) transforms the coastal bluffs into a tapestry of color -- worth an extra walk on the trails. Summer offers long days and warm afternoons, though the iconic Sonoma Coast fog often rolls in at sunrise and clears by noon.
Cell service can be spotty along the coast. The home has WiFi for staying connected.

Beautiful ocean views, and close to hiking. The house is a very charming Sea Ranch jewel. The sauna and Jacuzzi were added bonuses. The only downside was the early checkout when we left on Monday morning. I asked for an extra hour or two but Vacasa was not accommodating.
The house was perfect for a getaway. It has excellent ocean views and is close to coastal trails. The host went out of their way to make the home welcoming including leaving a bottle of wine and the fireplace stocked with firewood. We enjoyed the sauna, the hot tub and the deer that would meander through the meadow. I will say that the pictures do not do the kitchen justice. It is an excellent kitchen. We would definitely come back!
the house was well stocked and our stay was all we had hoped for.

Nice house, close to the beach trails.
Comfortable house with nice ocean views. Only a couple minute walk to the beach trail which keeps you from having to get in a car. Enjoyed out stay and will probably be back again.
Quiet cul de sac. House rambles a little bit but has every amenity you can want, most especially grand views from every room. About a half a block from the coastal trail. Unobstructed ocean views.
