Ocean-view home with hot tub & prime location at Shell Beach
Summary:
Curl up by the fireplace as fog rolls in off the Pacific. Room for 6 in this 2-bedroom home. Sea Ranch community pools, tennis courts, and the Lodge are nearby. Miles of bluff-top trails and hidden beaches are yours to explore. The rhythm of the waves sets the pace here -- unhurried mornings, lingering sunsets, deep sleep.
The Space:
Tucked at the edge of a cypress grove with a view of the ocean across the meadow, this inviting home is classic Sea Ranch in every sense. From the cozy interior to the banks of windows, the decks on two sides to the private hot tub, this is a place for relaxing into the wild beauty of the Northern California Coast.
This two-story home boasts an ideal location near the heart of Sea Ranch, right around the corner from the Shell Beach access trail. You'll be next door to One Eyed Jack's picnic area and playground and only a matter of steps from the oceanfront Bluff Trail. When you're not tidepooling or watching the harbor seals play, you'll be within two miles of two of the Sea Ranch rec centers (Del Mar and Ohlson), each with its own heated outdoor pool, tennis courts, and saunas.
As you step inside, you'll be greeted by lofty ceilings and a wall of windows that fill the house with sunlight and views. The great room is adorned with natural wood from top to bottom, providing warmth and atmosphere whether you're reading in the window seat or playing board games around the dining room table. Enjoy an open kitchen with stainless steel appliances and a living area where you can stream movies in the warmth of a wood-burning fireplace.
Take morning hikes on the Bluff Trail, stop by Shell Beach at low tide, and return home in time for a barbecue lunch on the sheltered deck. In the evenings, take in spectacular sunsets from the living room before heading outside to stargaze in the hot tub. In addition to the two bedrooms downstairs, there's a sleeping loft on the second floor that doubles as the perfect home office.

Getting Around:

House was perfect. Walking location to beaches, parks, short drive to Gualala and 1 of 3 pools. House is a perfect size for a family visiting Sea Ranch.
The house was nice and comfortable. Instructions for operating the fireplace flu would be welcomed. The gas bbq ignition button was broken which made lighting the grill difficult and dangerous. The bed covers and throw blankets could use cleaning.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and for noting that the house was comfortable. The BBQ ignitor has been replaced and is working properly, and housekeeping will wash the blankets and duvets before the next guest. We appreciate your comments about the fireplace instructions and will consider adding clearer guidance for future stays.
The house was fantastic. 1 block from 1 eyed Jack park and a 3 minute walk to Shell beach and 2 minute drive to the Leeward pool. House was perfect with hot tub, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathroom’s and a loft with 2 beds. Easy to clean and a beautiful view looking out towards the ocean. Perfect for beach time, book time or nap time as needed.

Delightful Dune Drift
While no Ocean view, the house was just steps to the bluff and convenient to both One Eyed Jack’s playground and to Walk on beach. Kitchen was well supplied and the large fireplace was a treat. Great views west to the sunset and a nice hot tub with views up to the stars.

Perfect house
Three of us stayed in Dune Drift for the weekend. The house is beautifully designed, really comfortable, and the kitchen is well-equipped. The mattresses are old and hard, need to be replaced. Other than that, the house was wonderful. We'll return.

Sea Ranch gem
This is our third time staying in Dune Drift. We love this home and location and will eagerly stay again! The new owners have done a wonderful job updating the house, with new bathrooms, kitchen and outdoor deck plus laundry in the garage, yet keeping the wonderful classic Sea Ranch style. You’re close to all the trails, plus the seals, chapel and one eyed jack playground. You can sit at the best window seats in town and watch foxes, deer and the sunset all out your window. We’ve stayed at dozen of Sea Ranch homes over the years and highly recommend Dune Drift!

Needs a top to bottom cleaning
After spending 10 years visiting The Sea Ranch and trying out different rentals, here’s what I found with this property:
Pros: The beach is easily accessible, the location feels private, the home retains its original Sea Ranch charm, and the bathrooms have been nicely upgraded.
Cons: Unfortunately, the property could use some major TLC. We noticed dirt, crumbs, hair, stained furniture, and cobwebs throughout the house. The windows were dirty, with some broken and foggy, and the sliding glass door only secures with a kitchen utensil (as indicated by a post-it note). The screen door was warped and kept falling off. The bedrooms are on the smaller side with limited space for luggage, and the upper loft isn’t the most user-friendly.
This rental might work well for a family with dogs who don’t mind dirt & rustic charm, but personally, I wouldn’t stay here again.
On top of that, I reached out to Vacasa, and while they promised to contact the local team, I never heard back from them, even after following up with photos.

Hi Carey. Thank you for your thoughtful review. Thank you for sharing your feedback and bringing some items to our attention that may need some TLC. We have forwarded your feedback to the local staff so they can work to improve the house for future guests. Please know that our guest services team is available 24 hours a day to assist should any concerns arise during your visit. We hope you choose to stay with us again!
House and location are good. Initial inspection of property was clean in kitchens and bath which have been recently remodeled, but with very low flow shower heads. Quickly realized they had not cleaned or vacuumed upstairs loft in quite a long time, which is only accessible by an 8’ ladder that is honestly dangerous. Very dusty and LOTS of cobwebs and dead bugs. Cushions by windows haven’t been cleaned in awhile and contained gross brownish- red stain which was kind of gross. Discovered a black widow under the pillow. Property management company did send someone to clean loft and spa which had floating chunky white substance in it after jets settled. They cleaned spa which was better but loft had a quick once over where the vacuumed around items without moving anything and dead bugs remained. Cobwebs everywhere and walls need a serious wipe down. Still a decent property with potential, but disappointed in basic cleanliness.
Broken items: back door lock, screen door (was on ground when we arrived), loft lamps and fan.

We're sorry for the cleanliness details that were missed and appreciate you reporting this so our team could address it during your visit. We shared your comments with the local manager who assured us that the lock is scheduled for repair and the screen door that was off the track was put back on.
