About this property

Ferienhaus für 11 Gäste mit 200m² in Dannenberg

We (two families who have taken over the house) are renting out a beautiful half-timbered house in Lüggau in the lovely Wendland region. The house is a “family heirloom” that we lovingly renovated in 2021 and 2022. We can accommodate groups of up to 11 people. Come be our guests and spend your holiday in this dreamlike setting!

There are two apartments available for you. One slightly larger apartment (approx. 120 square metres) on the ground floor (Heinz’s floor) and one slightly smaller apartment (approx. 80 square metres) on the ground floor (Ilse’s floor). Both apartments were freshly renovated in 2021 and 2022. On the ground floor, two wood-burning stoves provide cosy warmth in the winter, and the radiant floor heating creates a wonderful living environment. Feel free to check out the photos and floor plans. If you have any further questions about the house, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

THE HISTORY
The house was built at the end of the 19th century by our great-great-uncle Adde and passed down to his nephew August and his wife Minna—the great-grandparents of Hanne and Hendrik—who now own the house together with the entire family. The large chestnut tree, which stands majestically next to the house, was planted when our grandmother Ilse was a child, and it has been growing there for over 90 years. Numerous family celebrations have been held under the chestnut tree. When the grandchildren of our grandparents Ilse and Heinz arrived, the chestnut tree and the house continued to be the centre of family gatherings. And that’s how it is again—with you as our guests!

THE HOUSE
The house is divided into two living units that are connected to each other (the “Heinz” apartment on the ground floor and the “Ilse” apartment on the ground floor). It’s ideal for multiple families or multigenerational family gatherings. Groups also feel right at home here. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms, a cosy living area with a kitchenette (including an oven, stove, and dishwasher), and a bathroom with a shower and toilet. From here, you have a beautiful view of the courtyard and the idyllic village of Lüggau with its neighbouring half-timbered houses.
On the ground floor, there are three more bedrooms (one of which is a walk-through room). The highlights here are the large kitchen-diner (including an oven, stove, microwave, and dishwasher) and the spacious living room, which is bathed in morning light. In winter, you’re welcome to help yourselves to our firewood supply, and the two stoves will keep the place cosy and warm. Overall, the house offers a wonderful living environment thanks to the wall heating and clay plaster. We’ve managed to preserve some historic stencil paintings in the rooms, which you can admire. The spacious bathroom downstairs is also equipped with a shower and toilet, as well as a washing machine and clothes dryer.

THE VILLAGE
Lüggau is located in the beautiful Wendland region, between the Elbe River, Hitzacker, and Dannenberg, just a 1.5-hour drive from Hamburg. A true natural paradise! In Lüggau, right in the heart of the village at number 3, stands this imposing, nearly 130-year-old, historically protected half-timbered house on a 2,400-square-meter lot, which is covered with a grove of very old oak trees. The centrepiece of the garden is a massive, nearly 100-year-old chestnut tree.

THE VILLAGE COMMUNITY
Our house is located in the centre of the village, and because of the history that connects us to both the farm and the people of the village, it is firmly integrated into the community. The fact that this is now changing with you is part of a natural evolution. We hope that you will enrich our lives and bring new energy to the village. However, we’d also like to make one thing clear from the start: If you already know that you’re a very loud group and plan to party boisterously late into the night, then this isn’t the right place for you.

THE SURROUNDINGS
There are many organic farms in the area that sometimes sell eggs and other products. Dannenberg isn’t far away (2 km), and there you’ll find all the supermarkets, pharmacies, banks, and other stores you need. The outdoor pool is also located there and is a great place to cool off on warm summer days. You can even bike along the dirt paths if you know your way around a bit—we’d be happy to show you the way! The historic village of Hitzacker
