We really enjoyed our stay here. The location is fantastic — very close to the beach and an easy walk into town — and the house has clearly been loved and enjoyed by generations of families. There’s a lot of character and history to it, which we found charming. Some parts of the house are quite old, while others have been very nicely updated, particularly the new kitchen and bathrooms. One thing that we do think should be clearer in the listing: there are four bedrooms upstairs, but they aren’t all constructed like traditional enclosed bedrooms. The front and back bedrooms have normal walls and ceilings, while the two middle bedrooms have walls that do not extend all the way to the roof. There is open space above the wall separating those rooms, so sound travels easily between them and they don’t offer the same level of privacy as fully enclosed bedrooms. This wasn’t a major problem for our family, but it is unusual and something guests should know about when deciding sleeping arrangements.Overall, this is a wonderfully located, well-loved Fire Island house with some beautiful recent renovations and plenty of old-school character. We had a great stay and really enjoyed being so close to the beach.
