About this property

Retreat on Lake Tenkiller: Spacious Home, Lake Views, Expansive Deck & Fire Pit

Welcome to the Retreat at Running Springs on Lake Tenkiller! Purchased and remodeled in summer 2022, we’ve updated nearly every corner of this quiet hillside cabin. From our ridge-top location, you can enjoy incredible sunsets over the valley in the evening, occasional deer wandering the woods beyond the deck in the morning, and glistening water dotted with fishing boats trolling the inlet just through the trees in the afternoon.

THE ARRIVAL
You’ll know you’ve arrived at the Retreat after driving up a steep, paved incline (we’re nestled in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains) and turning onto a very short gravel road winding through the woods. Watch for deer, and keep your eyes peeled for your first glimpses of the water through the trees to your right. When the tree cover opens up, you’ll see our bright blue house perched on the ridge with a sweeping valley view to the right and sparkling clear water through the trees on your left.

THE PROPERTY
Our driveway is on a steep incline but can hold enough cars for large family gatherings or even small weddings.

Access: This driveway is best accessed by an SUV or truck, but sedans can make it through.

Directions: Please enter through the east side of the loop.

THE DECK
You’ll enter the home through the top porch of our three-level, one-thousand square foot deck which was entirely renovated in August 2022.

Surface: The decking is a cool grey with a smooth finished surface—a much friendlier option for bare feet in the summer.

Top Level: Relax while overlooking the valley and water views.

Lower Level: Toss some Cornhole or play giant Jenga.

Main Level: Mingle with 11+ friends and family at the outdoor dining table and Adirondack chairs around the fire pit.

Evening: Soft solar lighting around the sturdy handrails with trellis fencing (safer for kids and dogs!) will light your path without blocking the crystal-clear view of the stars.

Amenities: We provide roasting sticks for hot dogs and s’mores in the kitchen, an ENO hammock, a charcoal grill, and even an outdoor movie projector + screen setup.

MAIN LEVEL LIVING AREA
When you enter using the easy Nest smart lock, you’ll step into the main living room with two-story windows covering the entire southwest wall.

Seating: The massive sectional sofa is perfect for large groups of 10-12, long naps, or movie nights with the 75” smart TV (easy login for your own streaming platforms).

Flex Space: The sofa has a floating ottoman to create an especially deep corner, comparable to a full-size bed, for a cozy morning coffee spot or extra guests.

Games: Check the cabinet near the stairs for a rotating selection including Risk, Yahtzee, Battleship, Life, cards, and puzzles.

DINING AREA
A chandelier hangs over the huge ten-foot dining table with six dining chairs and a long bench, easily seating 8-10 guests for a meal.

KITCHEN
The kitchen is one of our favorite spots, featuring cabinets painted a dreamy forest green and new, full-size stainless-steel appliances.

Supplies: You are equipped to prepare a holiday meal, celebrate an occasion, or host hors d'oeuvres.

Coffee/Tea: We stock coffee, tea and creamer for the drip coffee maker.

Dining Out: We will send over our recommended restaurant list if cooking on vacation is not your cup of tea!

BATHROOM AND LAUNDRY (MAIN FLOOR)
Just off the kitchen, you’ll find the first of three full bathrooms.

Shower: The walk-in shower features high-pressure (2.5 GPM) Speakman fixtures with a fixed and handheld head (jetstream or rainshower settings).

Amenities: Help yourself to the Simplehuman soap dispenser (shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel), plus hand soap, lotion, cotton swabs, cotton balls, and makeup remover cloths.

Linens: We provide hotel-grade, plush white 100% cotton bath towels, plus beach towels, kitchen hand towels, paper towels, and cleaning kits.

Laundry: Includes a full-size LG washer and dryer with provided detergent.

MAIN LEVEL SUITE
The king bedroom suite is tucked in the back of the main floor for extra privacy.

Bed: Features a 10-inch Avenco hybrid foam+spring core mattress with a plush pillow topper, down duvet, and 400 thread-count percale cotton sheets.

Features: A desk with chair, sitting area, and a full-length mirror.
Ensuite Bathroom: Private water closet, double sink vanity, and a large walk-in shower with a bench.

Closet Storage: Steamer, hair dryer, iron, drying rack, luggage racks, bedding bag with extra blankets/pillows, cornhole boards, a large dog crate, Hunter oscillating fan, and hangers.

UPSTAIRS LOFT
The loft overlooks the living room and shares the same breathtaking sky-high views.

Reading Nook: Features a super-cozy chaise sofa with oversized plush chenille pillows.

Entertainment: Borrow a book from the cabinet or enjoy the mancala set on the coffee table.

Comfort: This space shares its own upstairs thermostat with the guest rooms for perfect temperature control.

QUEEN BEDROOM (UPSTAIRS)
Bed: Super plush memory foam mattress with a luxury topper and a heavy Pottery Barn buffalo check duvet.

Features: Green velvet blackout curtains, a desk, chair, and lamp for a private workspace.

Connectivity: Super-fast Fiber internet at 135+ mbps for seamless Zoom calls.

BUNK ROOM / PLAY ROOM (UPSTAIRS)
Sleeping: Four twin beds with memory foam mattresses, jersey sheets, and navy waffle-weave throws.

Flex Sleeping: Bottom beds pull out and mattresses unstack to create twin-over-king configurations for both bunks (sleeps 6 total; extra bedding provided).

Kids/Groups: 55-inch TV and drawers of wooden toys (train building set, blocks, and Lincoln Logs).

Nursery: Closet holds an infant/toddler pack ’n play with bedding and a toddler cot.

UPSTAIRS BATHROOM
The third full bathroom includes all the same luxury amenities as the others. The extra-large storage cabinet holds extra beach towels and a queen-size air mattress with a pump.

About the host

Hosted by Kelsey Lightcap

Host profile image
Hi, I’m Kelsey. I grew up in Tahlequah and graduated from Tahlequah High School, so this area will always feel like home to me. Even though I live down in Austin, Texas now, I still manage a few houses on Lake Tenkiller because I just love the area too much to let go of it.

The house itself belongs to a tech professional, but I manage the property and the day to day responsibilities. For me, the best part of doing this is helping people actually log off, relax, and have an unforgettable vacation.

Whether you are here to hang out on the deck or sit by the fire pit, I'm always happy to help make sure your trip is a great one.

Why they chose this property

This home features a striking wall of windows that overlooks Lake Tenkiller, offering breathtaking views of the lush hillside, green trees, and water below.

The neighborhood itself is wonderfully remote and secluded. It gives you that peaceful, tucked-away feeling, yet there are a few neighbors nearby so you never feel totally isolated from the world. It is the perfect balance of privacy and comfort.

Nature and wildlife are a constant highlight here, and you can comfortably watch everything unfold either from the expansive deck or right from the living room couch from the wall of windows.

What makes this property unique

What really makes this property unique is how perfectly it balances spaces to gather with room to breathe. The heart of the home is built for big groups and families to comfortably spend time together, featuring a massive couch, a large dining table, and an expansive kitchen island that makes cooking and hanging out completely effortless. When the kids need their own space, they can retreat to a dedicated bunk room that functions as a total sanctuary, fully stocked with toys, board games, and a Smart TV. The entertainment options carry on throughout the rest of the house and outside, where you will find an incredible multilevel deck complete with a fire pit, outdoor dining, and plenty of outdoor games. Between the sprawling indoor layout and the massive decks, there is tons of space for everyone in your party to spread out, relax, and enjoy the lake getaway together.
