Beautiful, quiet and secluded Icelandic cabin

Loved our stay at Sel. A little off the beaten path and so worth it.. did some great day trips to the golden circle and back to make some delicious dinners and enjoy the evening (didn't see the northern lights this time but a most memorable night sky). Would highly recommend this cozy homeaway from home.

First trip to Iceland

This was the our first trip to Iceland. The location of this place was perfect for all our trips in the south eastern part of Iceland. The cabin was comfortable and had all the amenities we needed. Would definately recommend to anyone.

Small and cosy

It's a small house to be your base for getting out to see beautiful Iceland. Not a place to stay inside all week. Maja is a very kind and nice person. She is very helpfull. The neighbour Paul also.

Wundervoller und entspannender Aufenthalt

Wir haben 10 Nächte in der super gemütlichen Hütte verbracht und waren rundum zufrieden. Auch bei kalten Außentemperaturen war es innen schön gemütlich. Bei Sonnenschein konnten wir sogar die Terrasse nutzen. Die Lage war perfekt für Ausflüge im Süden. Wir werden auf jeden Fall wieder kommen!

Wer Ruhe sucht und auf Gemütlichkeit Wert legt, ist hier genau richtig.Volle Weiterempfehlung und die Gastgeberin ist total nett und hilfsbereit.Vielleicht als Hinweis, die Zufahrt erfolgt über eine mehrere Kilometer lange Schotterpiste.

Une petite maison comme chez soi avec des oiseaux d'ici

Nous avons passé cinq nuits à la fin du mois de mai dans cette petite maison, entourée d'arbustes et visitée par les oiseaux d'ici. L'intérieur lambrissé est joli et agréable, et donne envie d'y rester. Elle possède tout le confort attendu, les lits sont de bonne qualité, la température y est douce quand dehors il fait froid. Elle dispose de tout le nécessaire pour faire la cuisine, ce qui a été notre cas chaque soir, vu le prix des restaurants. Le véritable plaisir a été de contempler par les fenêtres les oiseaux qui s'activent, les arbustes et les lupins en fleurs, le ciel qui s'éclaire ou qui s'assombrit. La route vers Selfoss ou Hella offre à la vue des chevaux par dizaines, des moutons et leurs bébés par centaines, et permet de voir le huîtrier au bec orange, la bécassine et d'autres oiseaux encore. C'est un emplacement parfait pour se rendre vers tous les endroits importants de la région proche, les cascades renommées (Haifoss, Gullfoss), les geysers, le parc naturel Pingvellir, le bord de mer aux longues promenades. Ce fut un agrément de rencontrer Maja, venue nous saluer aussitôt notre arrivée, elle nous a donné les conseils utiles, a désigné les oiseaux d'ici et leurs spécificités (un grand poster au mur permet de les identifier), a répondu à nos étonnements (pourquoi ces chevaux innombrables). Elle s'est préoccupée de notre bien-être dans un français impeccable et avec un grand sourire. Tout fut parfait.

Süßes Cottage in der Nähe von Hella

Das kleine Cottage von Maja ist ein super Ausgangspunkt für den Süden Islands. Von Reykjavik bis zum Diamond Beach ist alles möglich. Maja ist eine wunderbare Gastgeberin, die mit Mappe und Straßenkarte den Aufenthalt vorbereitet, aber auch immer erreichbar ist, wenn man eine Frage hat. Das Cottage liegt wunderbar ruhig, circa 8-10 km von der Ringstraße entfernt und ist über eine Schotterstraße (problemlos fahrbar mit einem normalen PKW) erreichbar.

Klein aber OHO

Liebe Maja, wir haben den Aufenthalt im SEL sehr genossen. Die Kommunikation mit dir vor und während des Aufenthalts war ausgezeichnet. Du hast uns mit reichlich Tipps versorgt und auch bei schlechtem Wetter an uns gedacht. Lieben Dank dafür. Das SEL war sehr gemütlich und alles was man so braucht, war bereits da. Der Platz im Haus war für eine 4-köpfige Familie mit Kleinkind gerade noch ausreichend (für uns). Das wussten wir vorher aber und da wir sowieso nur zum Essen und Schlafen im Haus waren, war das auch überhaupt kein Problem. Wir würden auf jeden Fall wieder bei dir vorbeikommen!!!!

Gemütliches kleines Haus

Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt in Sel sehr genossen. Das Häuschen ist super ausgestattet (nur einen Ofen gibt es nicht, hat uns aber nicht gestört) und liegt etwas abseits der Ringstraße, so dass man wirklich absolute Ruhe hat. In der direkten Umgebung konnten wir Schneehühner sehen und ohne Wolken war der Blick frei auf die Nordlichter. Maja ist eine super Gastgeberin und wir würden immer wieder kommen!

Kuscheliges Häuschen im Grünen

Wir haben uns in dem kleinen Haus insgesamt sehr wohl gefühlt. Es ist kuschelig und liebevoll eingerichtet und hat alles was man für einen Kurzurlaub braucht. Die Lage ist für Ausflüge im Süden toll. Maja hat eine schöne Mappe mit wertvollen Tipps und Ausflügen zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten in der Gegend erstellt, wir haben jeden Tag darin geschmökert. Für einen längeren Aufenthalt hätte uns aber eine Waschmaschine gefehlt. Die Leiter zu den oberen beiden Betten ist sehr steil, für kleine Kinder oder ältere Menschen wahrscheinlich eher ungeeignet aber das wurde uns vorher auch gesagt und für uns war es so okay. Grundsätzlich hat es uns sehr gut gefallen und wir haben den Aufenthalt in vollen Zügen genossen!

Fuer eine WaMa ist leider ja kein Platz, aber ich lasse meine Gaeste gerne meinen Waschraum bei mir auf der Farm (4km) weg benutzen, auf Anfrage, und biete dies meinen Wochen- und laenger- Gaesten immer an. Die Huehnerleiter ist der Kompromiss im kleinen Haeuschen... und vor allem bei Kindern sehr beliebt! Habt vielen Dank fuer euren Aufenthalt und Alles Gute!

Einfach traumhaft!

Wir hatten für 8 Nächte eine geniale Vater-Sohn-Zeit in Sel Cottage. Per Google Maps lässt sich die sehr schöne Ferienwohnung problemlos finden, das etwas außerhalb einer Ortschaft liegt. Aber genau so wollten wir das. Die sehr ruhige Lage ist wunderschön und ein idealer Ausgangspunkt für atemberaubende Tagestouren. Von dort haben wir mit unserem Mietwagen den Süden, Südwesten und Südosten bereist. Das Ferienhaus ist wirklich sehr einladen und gemütlich. Vier Leute können dort problemlos übernachten, für die es bei einem Tagesaufenthalt sicherlich etwas eng werden könnte, wenn es sich dabei um vier Erwachsene Personen handelt. Aber tagsüber ist man ja eh unterwegs. Sicherlich auch gut für Familien zu nutzen. Außerdem ist Maja eine tolle Gastgeberin, die ursprünglich aus Deutschland kommt. Sie hat extra vorbeigeschaut und uns noch den einen und anderen Tipp mitgegeben. Fazit: Schaut man sich die Bilder an, bekommt man schon einen sehr guten Eindruck. Von uns gibt es eine 100%ige Empfehlung für Maja und ihr sehr schönes Ferienhäuschen. Und Island ist einfach traumhaft!

Peacefull hideaway with beautifull view and nice interiours

Perfect for max. two people as the lack of floorspace makes keeping luggage inside a challenge. Nice cabin with good solutions concerning wall- and windowinsulation / thermic comfort in a cold country, daylight, view, interiours, equipment and furniture. A very small bakingoven could perhaps be a good thing. Some more electric light in the bathroom was a wish. Friendly host and perfect, written touristadvice avaiable. Great livingroom with volume in the height. A bit far from everything, but that also makes the peacefullness and quiet. Car is a nescessity, but not for serious bicyclists. Lots of beautifull wild plants in the garden and therefore also birds and life. Recommendable.

I am glad you had a good stay in Sel and enjoyed the abundant bird life around the cabin. We are about 12 km from the nr.1 road and the last few km are gravel road, past 2 scenic lakes and with views onto hills as well as horse and sheep pastures. A car is a must but as you wrote it gives you the peacefulness and quiet. At the same time Sel is centrally located for the tourist highlights in the South. Thank you for staying and all the Best.

Wonderfully secluded spot

We had a wonderful stay at Maja's cabin. The setting is spectacular, it's quiet and oh so peaceful. The road to the cabin (partially gravel) offers plenty of spectacular landscape photo opportunities and meet-and-greet with horse, sheep and birds. We were out and about during the day but enjoyed returning to a nice warm shower. The beds were comfortable and the WIFI worked well. Unfortunately, we had so many plans that we didn't get a chance to meet Maja. However, communication was as smooth as can be. Thank you Maja for making our Iceland adventure even better.

Wundervoll!

Das Häuschen „SEL“ liegt in wunderbarer Umgebung in der Nähe eines Sees. Der Garten, die Aussicht, das Vogelgezwitscher alles war einfach wunderschön. Wir haben unsere Zeit dort sehr genossen. Maja ist eine sehr gute Gastgeberin, die uns persönlich begrüßt und mit tollen Tipps versorgt hat. Jederzeit wieder!

Traumhaftes Häuschen in the middle of nowhere

Kleines, feines, sehr sauberes Häuschen in ruhiger Lage. Maja war eine sehr freundliche, hilfsbereite und sich schnell zurückmeldende Gastgeberin. Wir würden auf jeden Fall wiederkommen.
