My husband and I split our time between our home in Santa Cruz and Arizona, where he works as a firefighter, and I work as a consultant for nonprofits. We welcomed our first baby, a little boy, this year and are loving this new chapter as a family. We love to travel, stay active, try great restaurants, and spend time outdoors. Santa Cruz has been part of my life for many years, and we love sharing our home and this special place with our guests.

Why they chose this property

Santa Cruz has always felt like home to me. I grew up spending time here as a kid and later came back to attend college here, but my family’s connection to this neighborhood goes back even further. My great-aunt, Nell Claraty, lived on this very street and became a bit of a local icon, known for her colorful clothes and jewelry and for cruising around Santa Cruz in her electric wheelchair. The Claraty Arts Project in Midtown was named in her honor and continues her legacy by empowering artists with developmental disabilities. Having a home on the same street where Nell once lived made it feel especially meant to be. We love the history, character, coastal lifestyle, and wonderful sense of community here. For us, this isn’t just a neighborhood we chose. It’s a place our family has been connected to for generations.

What makes this property unique

The Mermaid Cottage is our home in Santa Cruz, and it has been a true labor of love. We completely remodeled it in 2021, bringing the cottage back to life while keeping the charm and character that made us fall in love with it in the first place. We’ve filled it with personal touches and created a relaxed, comfortable coastal space that feels like home. We hope our guests enjoy it and love Santa Cruz as much as we do.
