Living Like in a Castle
The Reitzenstein District Court is a building steeped in tradition, having been part of the historic Reitzenstein estate for many hundreds of years. It has weathered many changes over the past centuries. It was originally built as a “small castle” in the immediate vicinity of Reitzenstein Castle. It is still listed as such in the historic preservation registers. Later, however, it was used primarily as a district court. The Franconian noble family of Reitzenstein, as barons directly subject to the Emperor, held both lower and higher jurisdiction over their lands. Justice was administered in this very district court. When the privileges of the nobility were abolished, the district court was sold. It was then inhabited by a farming family for about a hundred years and operated as a farm. The barn and stable complexes that make up the farmstead still bear witness to this today.
Three years ago, the Reitzenstein family repurchased the district court and lovingly restored it in accordance with historic preservation standards. Great care was taken to use only natural materials during the restoration. Thanks to its adobe construction, the district court offers an exceptionally pleasant and cosy living environment. The entire house is decorated in a traditional style. The bathrooms are equipped with period fixtures. The interior design combines antiques from the castle’s collection with modern accents, creating an atmosphere where you can’t help but feel at ease.
The Ground Floor
The large kitchen-diner is the largest room on the ground floor. This is where life happens. You’re greeted by a long marble dining table that seats 12 to 14 people. The kitchenette is a blend of old and new, featuring a stainless steel and wood-look design with high-quality kitchen appliances from Gaggenau. The cosy atmosphere is rounded out by a small round seating area with modern plexiglass furniture from Kartell. Here, you can chop vegetables while cooking together, enjoy an aperitif, or simply play a round of Schafkopf. Meals are served on high-quality tableware from Dibbern.
The laundry room houses all the appliances, including a washing machine. Here, you can do laundry and iron. The many hooks on the oxblood-red walls are perfect for drying wet clothes from sports or long hikes. It’s also a great place to store supplies or other items.
The Bedrooms:
On the ground floor, there are two bedrooms with box-spring double beds and down comforters of the highest quality. Both rooms share a bathroom. The linen curtains with blackout linings completely block out daylight, so you can sleep in peacefully even in the summer.
The Game Room:
The game room is located just off the bedrooms. Here, you can pass the time watching a small TV or play a variety of board and party games at the game table. The sofa is a pull-out sofa that can sleep two people.

The large parlour:
The large parlour was once the courtroom where the lord of Reitzenstein administered justice. Thefts and other crimes were tried here. Today, the salon—flooded with light from three sides—features elegant parquet flooring. The large seating area, with its sofas, armchairs, and stools, offers space for all the residents to gather and chat about everything under the sun. The Baroque furniture bears witness to the long tradition of the district court.
The library:
Those who prefer a more relaxed atmosphere, on the other hand, spend their evenings in the library. Here, the whole family can gather on a four-meter-long sofa and comfortably browse through the library’s books or other reading material. The library is equipped with a home theatre system. Using a projector and a JBL Dolby Surround system, you can enjoy the most wonderful film nights on a screen. All you need to bring is your laptop for streaming.
The Bedrooms:
There are 3 bedrooms on the ground floor. One double bedroom with a modern box-spring double bed and an en-suite bathroom. The large bathroom, featuring a historic copper bathtub from the castle, is shared by the large double bedroom—which has a historic mahogany double bed from the castle—and the three-bed children’s room, which has a bunk bed and a single bed. The children’s beds are 1.90 m long. An extra bed can be added to the large double bedroom.
The Gardens
The district court is surrounded by a private garden of approximately 1 ha, which could almost be described as a park. The grounds feature a historic barn and an old stable complex. Both are now used as storage spaces. The gardens include two covered seating areas: a small seating set with French bistro furniture facing the courtyard, perfect for coffee or an aperitif, and a large seating area for 12–14 people featuring top-quality furniture from Weishäupl and a Napoleon grill station. There are also four Weishäupl lounge chairs, perfect for finding a cosy spot for an afternoon nap in the summer. The property is rounded out by a private tennis court, a boules court, and a trampoline. You couldn’t live in a more spacious and open setting…
The tennis court
The Amtsgericht features a private artificial turf tennis court that can also be used by guests of the Amtsgericht. In the shed, there’s a ball machine for intense training sessions, which is also available for use.
The boules court
The garden also features a boules court with a Weishäupl seating set, where you can enjoy the best games of boules on balmy summer evenings or simply sip an aperitif.
The Trampoline
Next to the boules court is a large trampoline built into the ground, where children of all ages can romp around to their hearts’ content.
The Shed
The shed door in the barn leads to a storage area for lounge chairs, chairs, tennis balls, a ball machine, and whatever else you might need. Rental bicycles can also be safely stored here.
The holiday home is particularly well-suited for a holiday with close friends or two families and the grandparents. Thanks to the spacious layout and the inviting outdoor area, there’s plenty of room for socialising.
But it’s not just the property that has a lot to offer...
