Ruedi and Jasmine love their historic building, which they have lovingly and carefully renovated in the hamlet of Jerisberghof—a site protected as part of the town’s historic landscape. At the heart of the hamlet stands the venerable Althuus Farm Museum, dating back to 1703. And right across from it is the historic bakehouse that belongs to it. Upon entering, you find yourself right inside the oven house from the early 18th century, complete with its two intact ovens. During museum events and family gatherings—such as weddings—baking takes place regularly, and delicious “Chueche” (a type of tarte flambée) is served: sweet, with bacon, cheese, or plain.
The oven house was expanded in 1805 to include an additional storey and a mansard roof. This apartment is also a protected historic site and a testament to the rural way of life. Restored and featuring a thoughtfully integrated modern kitchen and bathroom, it blends tradition and modernity into a cosy holiday home. When the sun is shining, you can linger under the natural pergola formed by the espalier pear tree in the spacious garden, let your mind wander, and savour the fine delicacies of the Seeland region, such as the delicious “Niddlechueche” from the bakeries in nearby Kerzers and Murten.
