A sophisticated 'Villa' retreat nestled in the slopes of Volcan De Agua
Casa 'Maya-Antigua' is a spectacular home retreat in La Antigua, Guatemala, nestled between three volcanos and surrounding green hills. La Antigua, Guatemala, a 500 year old Spanish colonial town, was designated as a 'World Heritage Site' in 1978. Antigua is an unforgettable destination, full of natural beauty, history and culture. This wonderful little city offers its visitors a memorable experience. Enjoy colonial architecture and history, the living Maya culture, museums, festivals, world class dining, sports, adventure activities and the town's famous 'Parque Central' (central park) only minutes away. Antigua is also the preferred gateway spot to the rest of Guatemala and other Central American destinations. Casa Maya-Antigua provides the comfort of a home away from home. A magical Hacienda style retreat, this amazing villa offers a rejuvenating natural environment and first world comfort and sophistication. In 2006 our family built Casa Maya-Antigua as a second home; as well as a place to welcome travelers from around the world. Our overall goal was to combine the local Spanish-Colonial architectural style with the best modern conveniences , functionality and light. The end result is a house which very harmoniusly fuses the best elements of an Antigua style traditional home with modern Mediterranean architectural elements. Additionally, the house was designed to make the garden and it's water features (the lap pool and the jacuzzi) central key elements of this living environment. The living-dining room space opens into the lovingly maintained garden through a large set of folding doors, bringing the exterior and the interior spaces together. Imaging seeing the Volcan De Agua in the background, framed by the folding doors - simply Spectacular!!! Unlike traditional Antigua houses, this house offers expansive window systems which floods the interior spaces with natural light. Combined with the open corridor (which runs the length of all of the rooms), these large glass doors bring the beautiful shapes and colors of the adjacent garden areas into the interior spaces - blurring the line between the inside and the outside areas. Be our guest and come experience nature, comfort tranquility and modernity. This stunning house offers a unique environment for an unforgettable vacation. Enjoy the lap pool, jacuzzi, lush gardens and terrace views of the surrounding volcanoes and the sloping greenbelt hills. Our property is just minutes away by car to the center of town. The perfect spot for enjoying the city of La Antigua and its surrounding 'Aldeas' (villages), without having to be too close to the noise of the surrounding streets. The house is located inside a gated community with 24/7 security. Inside the community there are about 50 other houses, most of which feature beautifully kept gardens and a variety of nice architectural features. Walks around the wide cobble streets and the flat sidewalks (over 1-1/2 km loop) are a popular activity with home owners and guests alike. Another nice community feature are the communal gardens with ample sitting areas and water fountains. We hope that this description, along with the photographs we have selected demonstrate how, 'Casa Maya-Antigua' can be the ideal setting for a great family vacation. A place which seamlessly incorporates the wonderful natural environment around La Antigua with the magical urban setting that this city is so well known for - all within the safety of a gated community. So, what are you waiting for? Come with us and let us show you and share with you our beautiful property; set in the midst of this beautiful corner of the world!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the house and found it very relaxing. The house was clean, and we especially appreciated spending evenings on the terrace. Witnessing the volcanic eruption was a magical experience. We are grateful to Mrs. Alicia for her exceptional hospitality. She was always kind, respectful, and attentive, ensuring the house was well-maintained and making us feel welcome throughout our family reunion. However, we were disappointed that not all the fireplaces were functional, especially given the cold nights when we would have liked to use them. Additionally, the jacuzzi had a leak, requiring us to refill it each morning, and there were some cracks in the walls. Overall, the location is peaceful, and waking up to the sounds of birds was a wonderful way to start each day.
Our family spent a wonderful week over the New Year's holiday at this beautiful and comfortable Villa. The landscaping is amazing, and the home has numerous rooms and outdoor areas conducive to relaxation and quiet contemplation. The community is gated and safe, an easy and quick 10 minute drive to the heart of Antigua, and the property caretakers were exceptionally kind and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay.

We loved this place! Are you kidding, it was incredible. We had two families and a total of nine people. There was plenty of room. We having breakfast in the house then exploring all day then coming back to dinner in the evening. The kids loved the hot tub and pool and playing soccer on the grass. The outdoor spaces were plentiful and so authentic. We would go back in a heartbeat!!!
Although this property is beautiful, the condition of the home was unacceptable and did not meet basic cleanliness, maintenance or security standards. We were very surprised to find these conditions based on the description of the listing. Security concerns: we were not provided with a key to lock up the property. The gate could be opened from the outside. Cleanliness and Sanitation: cockroaches in kitchen, ants, spiders and cobwebs throughout, bath towels were stained, dirty towel left in closet, a bottle of watered down soap was what was provided for sink and shower in bathrooms. Maintenance and Plumbing Issues: no hot water in one bathroom, one upstairs faucet not working, shower not draining properly and as water pooled dirt came out of the drain. We were in Antigua for my daughter's wedding and moved out of the property immediatly after the first evening. A property of this caliber should be spotless, fully functional and secure at the time of check-in, not corrected after guests arrive. Pictures are available
Lovely and beautiful home with magnificent gardens
My words cannot sufficiently describe the beauty, the tranquility and the fresh air that is breathed in the Mayan-Antigua house. My family of 7 members including me stayed in this house for this past Holy Week . We really enjoyed the jacuzzi, swimming pool and above all the beautiful gardens with beautiful tropical flowers including banana plants. The bedrooms were very comfortable and we enjoyed dinner in the main dining room with my family. Miss Alicia and Mr. Rolando were very attentive. I appreciate their quick response to our calls. Mr. Reynaldo, thank you very much for your help. Definitely will come back. This is a very secure and clean place to stay.

Just amazing!
The house and location are wonderful. The views of the volcanoes from the upstairs balconies are AMAZING. On Easter Sunday we were able to see El Fuego smoking - my 12 year old declared it "Best ... Easter... Ever!" There are lime trees in the garden, and we cut some to enjoy fresh limes in our water - again, amazing! The pool was definitely "cool", but that didn't bother our kids at all. Alecia came in one day to cook for us and made carne asada, corn on the cob, frijoles, tamales... oh my! It was... amazing!! Reynaldo was great to work with, even connecting us with a driver to help us get around since my mother was having a lot of trouble walking. Guatemala was an amazing place - people were friendly and welcoming, and very accepting of and helpful with my minimal spanish. I would love to go back.

Dear Lisa, we are very happy to hear that you and your family had such a wonderful time in La Antigua, Guatemala! This little city in Central America is truly a magical and unique place in the World... and we are happy to confirm, time and time again, that others think the same. Just as importantly for us, is the knowledge that our Home away from Home is part of such a wonderful experience and that the people in our service team are also a big part of making this an unforgettable traveling experience.
All the best to you and your family and, once again, thank you very much for your patronage!!!
Cheers,

This is a beautiful colonial-style home in a quiet gated community, away from the traffic congestion in Antigua, and yet just a 10-minute drive or Uber ride from the Parque Central. The garden and pool are lovely — the bougainvillea and jacaranda were in bloom while we were there and birdsong filled the yard. There are several terraces with spectacular views of the volcanos. We especially enjoyed having our morning coffee overlooking the Volcan de Agua (an extinct volcano!) The villa is so spacious that we could always find a peaceful spot to read or take a nap.
The house is beautifully decorated with Mayan textiles, pillows, artwork, hammocks and swings, but a few tweaks are needed to spruce up the kitchen and bathrooms to match the elegance of the house. The faucets/handles in the bathrooms and the kitchen sink are loose. The kitchen sink faucet needs to be replaced. Also the shower curtain in the master bathroom needs to be replaced. We cooked and barbecued quite a few meals but would have appreciated a better equipped kitchen with a frying pan in good condition, mixing bowls and some glass storage containers.
On arrival we were welcomed by Alicia, the caretaker, and Rolando the gardener. Alicia was a terrific help to our family—the first couple of days we were without a car and she guided us to the nearby supermarket, a bakery where we could get a graduation cake for our daughter and a tortilla stand where we found the freshest tortillas that we’ve ever had!
Beautiful property. Hot tub was hot and fit all 8 adults. Everything needed for cooking was in the kitchen. Had laundry room. Ground keeper and house keeper were great. The housekeeper cooked a good breakfast for us.
I particularly don't enjoy Guatemala city much because of traffic, that is why we rented outside the city. The home was everything and more of what we expected. It was beautiful, cozy, perfect weather, and let's not forget the hosts; they were super nice and helpful. If you want to enjoy your stay and relax away from the craziness of the city, I definitely recommend you stay at this home.
This is a beautiful home in a gated neighborhood with breathtaking views. The grounds are colorful with gorgeous flowers and foliage. We loved using the large hot tub and the pool. The home is nicely furnished with comfortable sofas in the family room and comfortable beds in each bedroom. It would have been helpful to have written instructions on how to use the appliances, the tv, turning on one of the showers was a little tricky. There is a property manager who is very helpful but having written info is important because you often don't know that you need instructions for something until you are ready to use it. Also, a few more bed pillows would have been nice. The dogs across the street barked for several hours a day, so if you are bothered by barking dogs, you should be aware of this. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home.
Alicia is wonderful and very attentive to your needs, always doing the extra mile so your stay is great. Amazing views house was more than we asked for!!
This is a beautiful place both the inside of the property and the amazing views. The neighborhood is very quiet. The house is well maintained and the grounds are well manicured. We have stayed in many places but it would be pretty hard to beat the views at this house. We will definitely be back.
We couldn’t have been happier with our stay! A beautiful house with an amazing outdoor space.
Amazing!!

A Magical Place
This home in Antigua is truly amazing. In a prestigious location, lovingly maintained, very spacious with a great floor plan and a backyard paradise, you can't ask for more. The care taker Alicia was really helpful, she was a wonderful person to have around if you needed anything, from going to the mercado, to cooking wonderful traditional dishes. Rosendo was also very nice. We travel a lot and usually rent homes instead of hotels, this home by far is one of the best and I can't wait to go back.

Beautiful secluded garden setting, perfect for multi-generation family vacation
We stayed for five nights, and it was a wonderful refuge for our multi-generation family after several local excursions. We have two small kids (5 1/2 and 2 1/2), and felt very comfortable at Casa Maya Antigua. The kids explored the house and beautiful gardens while parents got in some rare relaxation!! Both sets of grandparents as well as parents had rooms and bathrooms of their own. The pool was too cold for our taste but the large hot tub was perfect and we were very satisfied with it. The home itself is beautiful and tastefully decorated. I loved the old beams and posts incorporated into the home. We arranged for a local woman to cook breakfast and dinner for us most days, which my husband (the family cook) greatly appreciated. There is also a caretaker and gardener who was very helpful when we arrived. None of us speak Spanish well at all but we managed with Google Translator. The house is in a gated community and we felt 100% secure. There were a few very vigilant dogs in neighboring homes, but generally they kept quite at night. To get to Antigua, we took private taxis and the chicken bus, which stops just outside the gate to the community. We also walked uphill to the village adjacent, San Juan del Obispo, and found a great (tiny) fruit winery and chocolate seller. I was nervous about traveling to Guatemala with our kids—especially the two year old who is an escape artist!—but this was a great place for all all of us. Thank you! - Sally (Minneapolis, MN)

Enchanting
We loved everything about this place. The garden was immaculate. A never ending array of things to discover. Nice and close to town but just far enough out for peace and privacy. We were well taken care of and would come back in a heart beat!

Perfection in Antigua Guatemala!!!
When you arrive at the front door and walk in, you feel you are transported into a beautiful secret garden. This house excudes peace and calm and incorporates everything that is Antigua Guatemala, the decor, the weather, the views, the library books, we were charmed by the atmosphere, and even the food since Alicia, the care taker, makes delicious Chuchitos and fried beans! (typical guatemalan food). The house is in a good location if your intentions are to rest and with so much garden space and a pool for the kids to play, but you can easily visit downtown antigua since its a five minute ride, the rooms were very confortable and we loved the rooftop with a beautiful view of the volcano. It was a wonderful experience and we hope it repeats itself.

Incredible!!!
I can't say enough good things about this property. We stayed a few different places in Guatemala and this one was by far the best. Reynaldo was very attentive and quick to answer any questions I had.
The entire community is very quiet and secure with a 24-hour guard and all gated. The house keepers were so nice and very helpful in keeping the space cleaned up. I have never seen such a perfectly manicured garden and the pool/jacuzzi are an oasis.
I can't wait to come and stay here again soon. Don't think twice about this place, just book it!

Dear Joel, thank you so much for your kind words. They mean so much to us!
As I think I told you earlier, my mother and I have spent a lot of time and effort trying to make sure that Casa Maya-Antigua is a welcoming, warm and beautiful property, not only for our own Family, but just as importantly, for the many guest from around the World - which we are blessed to host!!!
Knowing that our guest, not only enjoy their stay at our home in La Antigua, but are often restored by the energy and the feel of this magical place and its beautiful surrounding, is what is all about for us.
So once again, thank you for your review, confirming for us, that we are doing a good job. As a matter of fact, beyond the "win-win" business transaction we just completed, this positive feed-back really makes us feel HAPPY INSIDE, and that, my dear guest, has NO PRICE!!!

What makes this property unique
The house was designed for the enjoyment of an entire family (multiple generations). It is actually kid friendly with the pool and the Jacuzzi being the main attraction for the young ones. However, some precaution should be taken with small children - not to leave them unattended around the pool. The studio bedroom is the most ideal place for the younger guest. Additionally, there is an AV entertainment system, which includes an Apple TV and Netflix movies.
