Amazing views ! Maison le Jarrissou offers stunning views over the Vezere Valley which can be enjoyed in the house or while lounging by the largein-ground pool (9m x 4.5 m) or on the upper flagstone terrace . The house is air conditioned for your comfort. You enter the 130 sq meter house (1300 sq feet) into a spacious and sunny glass enclosed veranda. Here you will find a large dining table and comfortable chairs. It is a great place to relax over a cup of coffee or glass of wine after a day of sightseeing. This room opens into a large salon featuring a traditional cantou fireplace, beamed ceiling and a view over the valley. It is equipped with flat screen TV, WiFi and a music docking system. There is a balcony overlooking the valley right off the salon with great views and searing. Also on the main level is an updated chefs kitchen with quartz countertop, built in dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer, gas hob, microwave and wall oven. There is an island with seating for two. The best feature is the stunning view over the kitchen sink... not a bad way to wash up after a morning coffee and croissant! The main level master bedroom features a king size bed and large wardrobe . Adjacent is a new ensuite master bathroom with walk in shower, large double vanity with granite top and heated towel rack. There is also a separate toilet room on this level. Upstairs is the second bedroom with queen size bed and ensuite shower and toilet. There is an absolute incredible view from this bedroom window! A single bed can be added to this room if needed. The layout of this house is ideal for two couples or a couple with two children as it is very private with ensuite bedrooms on separate levels. Outside just a few steps from the front door is a flagstone terrace where you can enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning while watching the mist rise from the valley... truly breathtaking. In the evening enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine from this lofty location or from the balcony off the salon/living room. The pool surround and landscaping has been refreshed with travertine pavers and new artisan iron fencing. The pool is heated. There are lounge chairs, umbrellas and an outdoor dining table by the pool. The pool is for you alone, no one else will have access to it during your stay.
The price of the rental includes top quality linens, towels, washer AND DRYER and a fully equipped kitchen. There is no extra charge for cleaning.
This is a wonderful get away retreat while offering so many nearby historic sites to visit. After a full day of sight seeing you can return home to a private oasis, take a dip in the pool while taking in the breathtaking vista, and then enjoy a glass of wine on the veranda or terrace.
The house is 1.5 miles from the medieval village of Plazac which has a small organic grocery, a boulangerie, café/bar, post office and tennis court. St. Leon sur Vezere, designated one of the 'plus beaux villages de France' is 3 miles away. Here you can rent a canoe for a scenic trip down the Vezere River where you will pass craggy cliffs and chateaus. Or you can stroll through the village, have lunch and visit its beautiful 12C Romanesque church and chateau. The house is six miles from Rouffignac with more shops and a supermarket. Rouffignac boasts one of the largest prehistoric caves in Europe. There is a guided tour on an electric train which takes you through places where bears dug their lairs and shows you part of the cave with its wall paintings. Seven miles from the house is the picturesque riverside town of Montignac with multiple supermarkets, shops, restaurants and the caves of Lascaux nearby. Les Eyzies is ten miles away, Sarlat 16 miles and the valley of the Dordogne just beyond. So come explore the heart of prehistory and the land of 1,000 chateaux with a stay at Maison le Jarrissou!

About the host
Hosted by Beth Gibson
We are U.S. citizens, but admittedly francophilies! We love the French people, countryside, history... and of course, the food and wine. In our younger years (we are now close to retirement) we lived in France for a year and studied the language and since then have enjoyed vacationing in France. We could not believe it when our dream came true and we were able to purchase a beautiful home in France in such an amazing setting!
Why they chose this property
We looked at many properties but when we drove up a winding mountain road, topped the mountain and saw our house overlooking the Vezere valley we were hooked! The house is comfortable and spacious with all the amenities but plenty of atmosphere and charm. The property is very private with mature hedges and a large garden but not isolated with neighbors everywhere and the village of Plazac is just at the foot of the mountain. We even have a spa within walking distance for the ladies!
What makes this property unique
We are close to everything... the prehistoric caves, the Vezere river with canoeing, routes for bicycling, and hiking trails of the Grandes Randonnées (GR36 is within a short walk). But we also within a short drive to many fine restaurants and historical sites. There is so much to see and do from this area. You feel the 'spirit' of the history here, from prehistoric cave peoples, medieval Templars, the soldiers from the 100 Years War to the resistance fighters of WWII were all in this place. But probably the most remarkable aspect of the property is the feeling of peace and contentment which seems to whisk away the cares of the world. Truly magical!
