125 Year Old Rowhouse Near Union Market / National Mall / Museums & Restaurants
3 blocks to Union Market and 5 blocks to Red Line Metro. We are close to all that Union Market, Capitol Hill, and the H Street Corridor have to offer.
Our home is over 125 years old, but we have lovingly restored it without gutting the charm out of it. You'll find all the modern amenities in a classic wrapper. Combining marble, glass, granite, stainless, and even original hearts of pine wood flooring on the 2nd floor to create warm and beautiful spaces. Stay in a piece of history in a city steeped in history.
Guests will have the run of the main home on floors 1 and 2 (there is a separate apartment on the garden level that is used by my family on occasion). The home has 3 bedrooms upstairs (All 3 with Queen Beds) and one queen sofa Sleeper on the first floor. It also has three full baths. One in the primary bedroom and 1 in the hallway upstairs and a full bath on the 1st floor too! Finally, it has 3 Flat Screen TVs. One 46" big screen TV in the 1st floor living room and a 2nd TV in the Master Bedroom. Both also have Blue Ray/DVD players. And then we also have a 32" flat screen in the 2nd biggest Bedroom. All 3 of those TVs feature Roku Streaming devices (user must have accounts to take advantage of some of the channels like Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc). We also have FIOS high speed broadband wireless internet, a fully equipped kitchen, and outdoor deck and patio with a propane gas grill.
We are close to everything in Capitol Hill monument and museum-wise ...either by the Red Line Metro (subway), by bus, or by car. (You don't really need a car, thanks to the various public transportation options, including the Capitol Bike Share system). There is a bus line on Florida Ave. 1/2 block away and on K St. two blocks south. Union Market (2 blocks away) is a great place to hang out, get coffee, fantastic food at the multiple restaurants and food kiosks, and even fish, meat, vegetables, and fabulous gourmet delicacies. The wine selection and prices at the Italian specialty store Litteri 1 1/2 blocks away is also fantastic (and they do a great sub/hoagie sandwich)! I will also provide a more comprehensive set of restaurant recommendations upon booking. Just to the south, H St. is full of cool bars and restaurants and is only 4 blocks away, but far enough to avoid the noise and the crowds (it also happens to have a free trolley car running east and west,
The Red Line Metro (DC's subway) is only 5 blocks west, Bus lines at Florida Ave. (1/2 block away), K St. 2 blocks south, or H St. 4 blocks south. Convenient to Balt/Wash Parkway, Rt. 295, and Rt. 395.
We can interact as much as our guests would like to interact with us. We have a second home about an hour away and a guest apartment below the home that we sometimes stay in. If we are there we can interact personally if the guests would like to. Otherwise, we are quite responsive to text/email/phone for questions and/or advice. English is our native tongue, but between us we speak a bit of French and a bit of Spanish. We love showing off our city and the many sights, sounds, and aromas you can find in it. Let us help you plan a day according to your likes, interests, and the amount of time you have available.
We'd like people to treat our home as if it were their own...be comfortable, but respectful. Absolutely NO Smoking is allowed in on our home please and NO pets of any kind. We had a fantastic stay at this charming home! It was cozy and well-equipped with extra supplies that aren’t typically included in VRBOs, such as extra baggies, trash bags, more dishwashing detergent than we could ever use, and an abundance of toilet paper. We had to purchase all these items at other VRBOs. The owners were incredibly helpful and kind, making our stay even more enjoyable.

Thank you so much for your kind words. We are really glad you enjoyed DC and your time at our home! We use VRBOs and BnB's a lot when we travel ourselves (our son's autism makes hotel stays very challenging) and we are always annoyed when we have to go out and buy toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, and other basic living items. So we try really hard to keep a very well-stocked home with most everything the average traveler could want or need! Thanks for noticing. :)
We were walking distance to shops and restaurants. Uber rides were easy and quick to get to all ateas of interest. Gregg was very redonsive to all questions.

Thanks for staying with us and for your wonderful review. We are so glad you loved staying at our place and had such a good time in DC!
Great place to stay for 4 adults,11 and 13 yr old kids. Was nice to have parking spot. We got used to getting mini van into the tight spot with practice. Nice to have 3 really nice bathrooms! Beds comfortable. Kitchen had everything you needed. Liked the outdoor space as well. Felt like it was a very safe area to walk!

House is very nice, but upstairs bedrooms are hot if the temperature outside is high 80’s or 90’s

I’m glad you enjoyed your stay. We have a supplemental air conditioning unit, but it has been crazy weather here. Going from 93 degrees to 31 degrees in about a 24 period. The supplemental air conditioner will be installed after Sunday which is supposedly the last freeze of the year (31 degrees). Sorry, you just got caught in the freak heat wave before we could switch over from winter to summer!
We had a great time in a house with a lot of character!

Thanks for your kind words. I’m so glad you and your family had a great time in DC and at our home. Please come back any time! You guys were wonderful guests!
The location worked for our visit. I appreciated the roominess of the rowhouse. Some amenities were nice to have such as ice in trays, extra paper towels, bath towels in rooms. It may be helpful to get the salt and pepper shakers filled along with other basics for guests. The unit has character with many needed upgrades due to age. Unfortunately we had an issue with bed bugs and had to wash the bedding in larger bedroom. My right foot and leg were devoured by them.

First, you never even contacted us about any of this. Second, we took a look and can find no evidence of any infestation whatsoever. Third, we've had numerous people stay in our home and have never had such a complaint, including the guests who checked-out just two days before your arrival and the ones before that and before that etc. and none have ever mentioned this issue. Additonally, since you're probably not an Etymologist, I'm not sure how you can make this determination. Likely, what you experienced is the Tiger Mosquito, which is quite active in DC, lives longer than regular mosquitoes, is particularly aggressive, and is active in almost all but winter weather. If you've left the doors or windows open for any amount of time and let some in, they will bite you numerous times, and they create very itchy bumpy bite areas. It is what they do. They are a real nuisance in DC. Also, our linens are professionally laundered offsite and we choose white linens so they can be bleached and washed at very high temperatures. So, I think we'll just have to respectfully disagree with your assessment. Finally, next time you have an issue, why don't you contact your host before making wild accusations publicly!
The home is large and spacious. We had a group of 6 with plenty of room. Our host was EXTREMELY RESPONSIVE when it came to replacing the coffee pot and we had a new one within the hour.

Thank you so much for your kind words. We are so glad you enjoyed your time with us and were really glad we could remedy the broken coffee machine issue quickly! I love my tea or coffee in the morning, so I know how important that can be to start your day! :)
Great place for the family. Easy access to metro. Many extras! All were comfortable. Loved being in older historic home. Great access to stores and restaurants. Two suggestions. Wine glasses. Small table or cabinet in upstairs bathroom.

Thank you for your kind words. I’ve been looking for a cabinet for upstairs bathroom. Funny you should mention that. We buy wine glasses on the regular, but unfortunately, they’re the first type of glass that it’s broken and we never know until people tell us that there’s none left or there’s only one left. So I will order some more wine glasses. Thank you very much for the heads up. I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay. Please come back and stay with us again someday
We enjoyed our stay! It was a safe and clean place. Greg was very attentive and responded to all of our questions and concerns quickly! If we ever visit DC again this is where we want to be! Thanks Greg!!
This house was a perfect fit for our group of pssychologist students presenting research at a convention. The rooms were relaxing and the ceiling hooks were intriguing! We loved our stay and the host was wonderfully responsive and helpful.

I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay! I suspect you’ll be disappointed by the true explanation of all the ceiling eyelets and hooks. They were more practical than Freudian. I’d guess the conjecture about them was far more interesting! ;)
Sadly, our son is severely autistic and non-speaking. We used those hooks for all of his different therapy swings and platforms. Something about the swinging motion really chilled him out and to this day (he’s now 15) his two favorite things to do are to swing and to jump (so we have a massive trampoline and hammock chairs).
Thanks again for staying with us!
Really nice and convinient place to visit Washington. We were able to do everything with public transportation from the house.
Confortable house for our 3 days stay, with clear and detailled explanation of Greg really helpful for shops and restaurants in the neighborhood.

Perfect accommodations for a visit to DC!
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We were able to walk to a variety of restaurants and grocery stores and were just a short LYFT ride to all the attractions that DC has to offer. Greg was a great host, providing us with a lot of great information on local sites and how to get around the city. We enjoyed being able to make meals at the house and sit out on the back patio to relax!

We are so glad you enjoyed our home and your time in DC! We are always very happy to hear when our guests have a great time on their visit with us.
We loved being able to walk to the national mall as well as buy groceries for our stay from this location. The place was clean and homey. Greg was great to communicate with and responded quickly to some tourist questions we had. We would definitely recommend this VRBO to family and friends. The only tricky part was the parking, but that pretty much goes with any big city.
Location was excellent with a 10 minute walk to the Metro and reasonably quiet streets. Living room was super comfortable for 4 adults and 3 teenagers. Kitchen appliances were very nice but could have used some cooking utensils and other accessories. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would rent again!

We are originally Chicagoans, who met in Denver, CO and ended up in Washington, DC (we also have a home in rural Virginia). We have two kids and various and sundry degrees from University of Colorado, University of Chicago, and Marquette University. We have both traveled abroad extensively in Europe, Africa, and Central and South America. We have both been lucky enough to have lived abroad for longer time periods as well.

As for the neighborhood, the H Street area is trendy, hip, and chic. New restaurants open up every day, and the development in this area is hard to stay on top of. You'll find Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and Starbucks within just a few blocks of my house, but you won't really find any chain restaurants or bars. H Street (and the nearby Union Market) have still retained a kind of 'hipster charm' and have a rugged individualism to them.
The house itself is a real house--not a hotel room. You will be able to kick back after a long day of site seeing and either settle down for the night with a book or TV, or warm up for a night out on H Street, Union Market, or elsewhere in the District.
