Cosy cottage near Elie, beaches, golf, great base for the East Neuk
Folly Cottage is more than 200 years old, named after a folly on the hill behind the house. It lies in Colinsburgh, a quaint East Neuk village full of pretty painted cottages with crow step gables. There are views over the beautiful Balcarres estate behind the property. There is a well-equipped kitchen diner, a comfortable living room with smart TV and French doors out to the garden, and upstairs a very large double bedroom with ample storage space, and a smaller twin room. The pretty bathroom is upstairs too. The wifi signal is excellent, perfect for keeping in touch with family or if you have a bit of work to do. Gas central heating and a wood burning stove have just been installed so it is very cosy if the weather is a little damp. The sun trap garden has a full set of garden furniture for drinks and meals, and a shed with barbecue set. Perfect for the school holidays! This is a great base for exploring the East Neuk, with the beaches of Elie, golf courses, quirky shops, fine dining, countryside walks all within a few minutes drive. Trips to the Highlands, Perthshire or Edinburgh are all easy from here. Colinsburgh itself has a shop, a pub, the only local garage, and a community cinema in the Town Hall. It is 5 minutes walk to Charlton golf course, and just a little further to the 2 courses in Elie. Of course St Andrews, home of golf, is just 15 minutes by car, and you have 7 courses there to choose from. Local supermarkets are well stocked and uncrowded, and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from. Pittenweem has galleries and cafes including the outstanding Cocoa Tree, with fabulous hot chocolate. The East Pier Smokehouse and Craig Millar's restaurant 16 are in St Monans for fine dining. The Cheese Farm is just along the road, for more than cheese, great lunches too. Ardross Farm shop can supply every need and Barnett's artisan breads are justly famous - feta and beetroot is one of my favourites. Kellie Castle with its wonderful garden is well worth a visit. Genteel Crail along the coast tempts with teashops and souvenirs. There's fresh and smoked fish from St Monans, and Balgove Farm Shop on the edge of St Andrews. There's something for everyone. The cottage will be sanitized for each new set of guests and check-in is via a key in the key safe so no need to meet anyone unless you want to. EPC=F

Lovely cosy cottage we go back to every year. All you need in cottageLog fire our favouriteLots to do short drive away, close to St Andrews, Cupar Anstruther and Pittenweem..Looking forward to our next stay already
Nice little place within an easy drive to lots of spots. There's not really anything in the small town where it's located and the cottage is on a fairly busy road. The host was very responsive and great with communication.
Spent a few days over Christmas with the family and everything was excellent. Cottage was clean, tidy and lovely and warm.Everything that you needed was there and we had a lovely stay
The enclosed garden was a real bonus for us with our dogs. We found the property to be spacious and conveniently located. We found it easily and were able to park right beside the house.
There was everything you'd ever need for a comfortable stay and by that I mean things like a teapot & cosy, oven gloves, decent wine glasses, mugs and a full compliment of cutlery & utensils..Cleaning products in kitchen & bathroom top.
We stayed in Colinsburgh for a month and loved it. The cottage had all we needed, the town had all we needed. Maia is always responsive and ready to guide and help with any questions.
The pictures don't do the property justice. The home has such a nice, relaxed feel and is well equipped with everything you need. The fresh eggs and Easter treats were such a lovely touch also. Would definitely stay here again. Thanks for a lovely time!!
Lovely cottage and great host with cosy living room and well equipped kitchen diner.
We loved staying at this property. The log burner is the soul of the house.
I managed to cook lots of nice homemade dishes for my children.
There are a couple of things that could be renovated but it is very homely.
Everything required was in the home and Maia promptly answered all inquiries.Thank you!

Excellent location.House was great had everything we needed.only complaint was couch not very comfortable. But apart from that everything was excellent.Hope to come back again.
House had all we needed for our short stay. Good communication with the host. Excellent base for exploring Fife.On a main road, so some road noise, but this did not bother us.

The cottage was clean and comfortable. The lady renting the cottage was fabulous. She was responsive and friendly and provided easy to use and detailed instructions on how to use the features of the cottage. She also provided good (and correct) information on local restaurants and facilities.
The cottage was lovely and full of character. Warm and cosy, very comfortable. Lovely enclosed little garden, perfect for the dogs. Maia was a great host, provided lots of useful information about the surrounding area and great suggestions on places to visit. Kept in regular contact and quick to answer any questions. I really enjoyed my stay and wouldn’t hesitate to return
We stayed in this delightful cottage for a week over our daughter’s graduation from St Andrews. Ideally located for exploring the East Neuk and one of the best equipped self catering establishments we have every stayed in. A real home from home with comfy beds, private sun trap garden and easy parking. We were made to feel very welcome and would definitely recommend and return. Five stars ⭐️
