Spring has Spring! Fern Valley--the Perfect Spot Any Time of Year
In the beautiful Fern Valley area of Idyllwild, the home is bright, sunny and open, and the perfect mountain getaway for a group of friends, one or two couples, or a couple with children.
Built in 2002, the home has all the modern conveniences (forced air heating, air conditioning, gas fireplace, microwave, dishwasher, electric stove and oven) and every comfort you'd want in that getaway trip. Everything is on the first floor (there is a loft above the kitchen but nothing is up there) and the two bedrooms have queen beds and their own bathrooms with showers. There is a washer/dryer as well. The bedrooms and living room are carpeted for cozy warmth, and the kitchen, bathrooms, dining area and hallways are tiled. The huge deck has a table and chairs and is the perfect place to sit out and watch the wildlife and incredible sunsets.
The road to the home as well as the driveway are wide and well-maintained. It's only 1.4 miles to the center of town, and even less to many beautiful hiking trails, from easy to moderate to strenuous levels of difficulty. We even discovered the home is about 75 yards from the popular and easy Ernie Maxwell Trail, which also runs to and from Humber Park.
When we come up to Idyllwild we find our weekends last very long as time seems to go slower when we're relaxing and simply enjoying the beauty of the area.
Check-in time is 4:00 p.m. and check-out time is 11:00 a.m. For earlier or later times please ask me and we try to accommodate but it depends on the previous and next guests and the housekeeping schedule. For groups with more than four adults (ages 10 and over) a charge of $30 per night per extra guest will be charged (maximum five guests). Quiet hours are 10:00 p.m.to 7:00 a.m. We ask that if you have more than two bags of trash you make a trip to the dump: Idyllwild Transfer Center at 28100 Saunders Meadow Rd. They are open from 8:00-4:30 Thursdays through Mondays and are closed Tuesdays, Wednesdays and holidays.

Great cabin. Great price. Everything we needed for our two week stay was there (apart from food). We could not have been happier. It’s a shame they’re selling the place, because we would have booked it again for our next trip.
It was a lovely home in a beautiful, quiet location beneath some magnificent trees. It was a pleasure to have lunch on the large deck accompanied by the songs of the birds.
Host was attentive and the cabin was clean and well kept. Everything we needed to cook and be comfortable. Great place to stay. Gorgeous area and just far enough from town to be still be convenient, but somewhat remote feeling. Also, very close to the Ernie Maxwell trail without having to drive to the trailhead.
We’ve stayed here a handful of times, and it truly feels like home. The place is cozy, very clean, and dog-friendly, which is a huge bonus. Suzanne is always super communicative and wonderful to work with. We already have our next stay booked and can’t wait to be back!

Suzanne was super responsive and accommodating to our families needs. We loved the cabin itself, well maintained, cozy, great location. The patio is fabulous. We would totally do this place again!

Thank you--yes we love the deck too--great for watching the birds and squirrels and having a cup o coffee or glass of wine.
The property had everything we could need and more! I’ve never stayed at a property that had so many extras like games, toiletries, extra pillows and blankets. Suzanne definitely cares about her guests. I would stay there again and recommend it to anyone traveling in that area.
This Fern Valley cabin was our favorite place we’ve stayed in Idyllwild. It was super clean, beautiful, secluded, and restful. The owner, Suzanne, was accommodating and super easy to communicate with. We had a lovely time and would love to return!

Overall stay was great! The place was clean and had everything we needed. Suzanne was very responsive and was kind enough to offer to fix the fireplace so we can have more of a comfy stay. The only mistake we encountered was taking on the 30 yard uphill hike near the cabin. It was extremely rocky since it was so dry.

Thank you for your very nice review. Yes those first 30 yards are a lot of work so unless you're quite experienced in hiking I'd just go to Humber Park to take the trails. We hope you can come back sometime. Oh and the fireplace did get fixed. :)
We had a wonderful experience there. The check in went smoothly and the facilities were very complete. We had everything we needed. There were a few little hitches that the host family responded to immediately and efficiently.I would definitely stay there again!!

About the host
Hosted by Suzanne Weatherly
Hi--this is Phil and Suzanne Weatherly, and we fell in love with Idyllwild the first time we came up. It was in 2010 and we had just gotten engaged and I (this is Suzanne) must have made the mistake of mentioning it to the band at the local bar, so they announced it to the other patrons. We immediately felt like all the people around were our new best friends, and when we went back a few months later, people remembered us from that night (a far cry from city life!). So we've been coming up a few times a year every since as we couldn't imagine a better place for a second home. We are avid fans of vacation rentals as we've used them many times for ourselves and our families, so we're excited to be on this adventure of hosting guests and helping them enjoy fun and relaxing times away from home.
Why they chose this property
We love with this house as it's everything we need and want in a home--a beautiful setting, modern conveniences, and proximity to town, restaurants, shops and hiking.
What makes this property unique
We have 100s of 5-star reviews and we're very grateful for our wonderful guests for that.
