Very quiet neighborhood with supermarket and bakery within walking distance. Hosts were very friendly and accommodating, even bringing us some DVDs! We really enjoyed our stay there.

Lovely place

We enjoyed our stay in Susmiou. Lovely large, comfortable space with character and charm. Hosts were great and their recommendation for a restaurant our first evening was 5*.

Great quiet location , close to supermarket

We had a great 2 week stay. Property exactly as described, wonderful fresh bread from the local bakery 5 mins away. Memorable day trips , relaxing evenings. Would recommend. Friendly, helpful hosts .

Peaceful base

This property is in a quiet village conveniently located to all of your basic needs. Ken was friendly and directed to us tp fun local activities and restaurants. This property was easy to book and we received quick responses to our inquiries. I highly recommend staying here if you are in the area.

Donkeys vineyards and country serenity

We are a party of five adults who all found Molly Raffa and Maximus (the resident donkeys) an absolute delight. The hosts were very hospitable but not intrusive. The area was central to restaurants wineries and supermarkets

Donkeys and chickens

A quiet village on the outskirts of Navarrenx provided us with everything we needed for our week's holiday. Extremely gracious hosts, and lovely to be able to feed the chickens and donkeys. Will certainly use again if we are in the area.

Initial impression was that the photographs in the listing made the property appear much brighter than it actually was.Our hosts were very helpful, in particular driving for over an hour to rescue us after we’d had a blowout on our hire car.

Fantastic cottage in the heart of French countryside!

Beautifully updated and lovingly maintained cottage for a perfect experience of rural France. Very close to two major towns (Pau and Bayonne) as well as multiple charming villages, it makes for an ideal location for exploring the foothills of Pyrénées. The owners, Shona and Ken, are very friendly and accommodating people, truly interested in the comfort of their guests. We strongly recommend the gîte, and hope to return there again soon.

Ken and Shona are wonderful hosts

Ken and Shona welcome was awesome, very responsive, immediately addressed the Internet access issue after the storm strike and any other request we made (not too many I hope). Ideally located between mountains and sea. Spacious enough for the 6 of us and the wood was readied for the barbecue!!! Thank you for everything.

Nice spacious gite near historic town and swimming river

The gite is spacious, well-eqipped and has comfortable beds and pillows (often not the case in gites)... Ken and Shona were very helpful and friendly, and gave us a number of useful tips on things to do and see in the area. The coast is around an hour away, as is canyoning in the Pyrenees. We found it a useful base to make excursions from, on the days we weren't hanging out at one of the many river swimming spots. Good value for money.

Wonderful Stay

We had a terrific stay at Ken and Shona's rental. The house was full of character, very comfortable with a fully equipped kitchen in a quiet and scenic neighbourhood. As cyclists, it was a great spot to launch a bike ride from with countless quiet backroads that were picturesque beyond belief. The house was close to all amenities and it was easy to busier roads/highways to travel to other towns and cities such as Pau, Bayonne etc. The pet donkeys were a special treat and we looked forward to seeing them in the mornings while drinking our coffee in the backyard. Shona and Ken were incredibly helpful and responsive to any questions we had. We would highly recommend this house!

Delightful stay

My husband and I spent a delightful week in Shona and Ken's lovely gite near Navarrenx. It's been beautifully restored and is full of character but with enough space and amenities for a large family. The garden is south facing and completely private with a remarkable BBQ that sadly we didn't get to use. The owners are next door and ready to help with anything at any time, and the location suited us perfectly, as we were able to go for hikes and cycle rides around the area and enjoy the local countryside. Navarrenx is within walking distance, making shopping and eating out very easy, and we also found several good restaurants within a few minutes drive. Definitely recommend it.

A perfect spot to explore SW France

My husband and I just spent two great weeks at Shona and Ken’s gîte. The location was perfect for exploring the whole region, from the Pyrénées to the coast. They were wonderful hosts, very friendly, there to greet us and farewell us and several times in between to chat, but never intruding. On a fine day, when we asked about hanging out washing Ken installed a new clothes line, and when we asked about movies Shona brought us a giant bag of DVDs. (The television is only French) The house is very well-equipped, the heating is very efficient, both electrical and wood-fired and the internet fast. While the house worked very well for the two of us, being an ancient restored farmhouse, it is charmingly wonky and creaky and could be noisy with a large group. We had some cold, wet weather so a dryer would have helped, but we were able to hang clothes on racks inside. While there are no shops in the village, there is a good supermarket on the main road almost at the end of the street within walking distance. We followed our hosts’ recommendations and had some wonderful meals out, both nearby and on the coast. It’s a great place to stay for anyone who wants to spend time in this beautiful part of France.

Best een fijn huis maar het is niet geschikt voor oudere mensen er is geen toilet beneden alleen op de tweede verdieping dus als je op de derde verdieping slaapt moet je ook een trap af welke niet erg prettig zijn voor iemand van 80 jaar. Kenneth en Shona zijn super vriendelijk en staan voor je klaar als er wat is het huis zelf is oud maar heel sfeervol alles is aanwezig wat je nodig hebt zelf heb ik het er erg naar mijn zin gehad. Vanuit de plaats kon je alle kanten op zeer mooie omgeving en de supermarkt is dichtbij helaas was de bakker gesloten maar dat was geen probleem voor ons. Al met al was het een fijne vakantie.

Nous avons passé une excellente semaine dans cette charmante maison. Les pièces sont grandes et elle est propre et bien équipée, notamment la cuisine où il y a tout ce qu'il faut.Le jardin est à l'ombre pour les repas et la maison a des murs épais ce qui fait que nous n'avons pas trop souffert de la chaleur (les ventilateurs dans les chambres sont quand meme très appréciables).Et surtout nous avons pu partir à la découverte de la region qui propose de super balades et baignades dans les gaves alentours. Enfin les commerces sont en bas de la rue et Navarrenx a seulement quelques minutes pour profiter du charme de cette citée médiévale.
