Beautifully freshly renovated 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment with a private terrace overlooking the Valley. Built on a hill, this stone town house is right outside the old city walls (dating from the 2nd century B.C.) of Historical Centre of Cortona, an old city founded by The Etruscans, the ancient civilization that built Rome. Cortona is conveniently located in a 1,15 hrs drive from Florence, 2 hrs from Rome and Pisa International Airports, 30 mins from Perugia (in Umbria) and Arezzo, 45 mins from Siena, 35 mins from Montepulciano, 1hr from Assisi (Umbria) e Montalcino (where the famous 'Brunello' wine comes from)...all the best sights of the famous Tuscan countryside, with yellow sunflower fields in the summer and multi colored trees in the spring!

Cortona is famous as the inspiration and setting for the book Under the Tuscan Sun, (that later became a movie) written by USA writer-novelist Francis Mayes. It also homes a branch of the Georgia University - USA, for artistic matters, since 1970.

Host was very accommodating an say to connect with. The Flat was beautiful, with air conditioning, and all the comforts needed for a pleasant stay. Beds were comfortable, water pressure was great, hot water was great. Very close to everything, with a beautiful private terrace.

For the BEST Visit to Tuscany

I spent weeks researching towns in Tuscany, and scoured vrbo for places to stay. We got so lucky securing Vanna's place - as we learned later this listing is usually booked well in advance. We stayed for a full month and were perfectly accommodated in every way. Situated just outside the walls of Cortona, and just above Camuccia, this perfect flat is in the ideal location. It's newly and beautifully renovated, equipped with nice linens and a well-resourced kitchen. Plenty of parking, pin-drop quiet, dark for sleeping, but sunny during the day, wonderful mattresses and ideal water pressure. We ate all of our meals on the patio with an idyllic view. And Vanna is the perfect host who quickly became our friend! She is quick to respond, and met our every request. Her cooking class is phenomenal and she makes you feel like family. I will definitely return and would not consider staying anywhere else!

Une vue mémorable!

Mon séjour à La Terrazza Sulla Valle a été fantastique. Vanna est une hôtesse très gentille, toujours disponible et très attentionnée. Elle a contribué à rendre mon séjour dès plus agréable. Cortone est une ville Toscane extraordinaire à visiter, tout est disponible à quelques pas de l’appartement. Les vues sont saisissantes.Les gens sont très sympathiques et les bâtiments historiques nous plongent au temps médiéval. La vue panoramique depuis la terrasse est à couper le souffle et me fera rêver jusqu’à mon prochain retour! Merci Vanna, tu es une femme inspirante!

Fabulous Cortona

The property was just as advertised and all that we hoped for. Our private patio with a view was a delight for lazy afternoons or evenings, enjoying the Tuscan warmth and beautiful light and the privacy was perfect. Our hostess was extremely helpful and went above and beyond as we had a minor emergency and she insisted on helping every step of the way. An excellent location to visit several of the other surrounding towns.

This was our second time staying in Cortona with Vanna. We love the apartment and Vanna is such a good host. You must take her cooking class, So good. Apartment has everything. We like to cook so kitchen was great. Cortona is beautiful and the view from apartment is amazing. We will come back again and again.

The property is top notch. Completely renovated only a year or so ago. It is perfect. Very beautiful and functional. Great view! Comfy bed. We ended up oversleeping every day! Vanna was an amazing host and wanted to make sure that we had everything we needed and really cared about us. (Side note, if you are considering Cortona versus other locations we were very impressed by the friendliness of the people and the very high quality of the local food). We will be back!

Fabulous apartment and hosts!

The apartment is exactly as advertised with great views across the valley and a 7 minute walk to Cortona's main square and restaurants. The apt is beautifully appointed with everything you need and was warm and comfortable. The terrace is great for morning coffee or evening wine overlooking the amazing valley. Mirko was great to deal with and the booking process was quick and easy. Vanna was incredibly helpful and even gave us some of the Easter cheese bread she baked! She answered all of our questions during the stay and recommended her favorite restaurants in Cortona. We felt welcome and cozy in their home away from home. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!

When you want your own under the Tuscan Sun

Wonderful townhouse built into the wall with Tuscan Sun streaming into my room every morning ! Parking was very close. The owners mother helped with everything and was charming just like someone out of. Movie. The bathroom fixtures are beautiful . Cortona is a fabulous place to spend a week and this townhouse is totally accomadating

Highly recommend this gem

La Terraza is perfect. I was there for a month and found Cortona most charming and to be a great place from which to day-trip the Tuscan hill towns and then come back and walk to one of the terrific restaurants up the hill from the apartment, of which there are many all over town. Vanna is a perfect hostess, and I felt as if I left Cortona with a new friend. Warm and generous, accommodating and welcoming, she shares her family property with pride and aplomb. I recommend her cooking class absolutely, as it was a family favorite and highlight of our time there. Some details: parking was not a problem and I usually found a good spot within a block or two. The view is fabulous from the small terrace, just as pictured, as is everything else. Comfortable beds and pillows, all very clean. The apartment has recently been renovated, and the modern niceties (kitchen, bathrooms, ceiling fans, AC) are meshed seamlessly into the historic property...a real plus. Go if you can and stay as long as you are able.

Three wonderful days in Cortona

As soon as we arrived at La Terrazzo sulla Valle we were met by our hostess Vanna who showed us around this beautiful apartment. For two couples it is perfect. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms plus a nice kitchen-living area leading out to a lovely porch with sweeping views of the valley below. We had planned to take day trips out of Cortona but once we saw the beautiful town we decided to spend our days exploring the immediate area. Vanna gave us ideas for restaurants and agreed to meet us the next day to show us a little of the town. She introduced us to a couple of art galleries and to the farmers market stands and her favorite cheese and meat shops. We were very happy that we took advantage of the chance to go to Vanna's home, just above the apartment, for her cooking class and delicious dinner. We are now inspired to try more Italian dishes. Our stay was too short, but now we have a friend in Cortona and would love to return to La Terrazzo one day.

Amazing experience!!

We had the best time ever in Cortona for my 50th birthday. From the beginning Mirko was quick to respond and answered every question in any communication. When we got there we could not believe how great this property was and Vanna was the jewel of the trip. Her cooking class is NOT to be missed and her English is way better than advertised. We left our hearts in Cortona and our new friend Vanna. We will be back to our “home” in Cortona. It was perfect in every way. Vanna, grazie mille e alla prossima

Incredibly fabulous Tuscan Experience

After spending some time in Venice we were anxious to get away from the crowds, Cortona was the perfect place. The apartment is spacious enough for two couples but it was just the two of us. It is comfortable, attractive and well appointed. If you want to cook it is well equipped. We rented this location because of the terrace and it did not disappoint. The view is exactly what one would expect in Tuscany. The description says it is just outside the wall and that is very accurate! Some of the reviews mention walking up the hill to the square. The first time up the hill we walked like Americans "full speed ahead". After that we walked like Italians, had a cappuccino at the little bar just inside the wall, walked up the hill a bit checked out the woodworker's window, read the menus of the restaurants on the hill and before we knew it we were in the square. Cortona is a lovely town with several restaurants we enjoyed, as well as some delicious gelato. Vanna could not be a more gracious host, her English is impressive so there were no communication issues. She certainly went the extra mile for us. My husband had asked her to pick up some flowers to celebrate our anniversary and they were perfect! She also helped us out with a dental emergency for which we were VERY grateful. Do not miss the cooking class! Not only do you learn to make authentic Italian dishes, but the meal is outstanding. We often look at each other and say wouldn't it be wonderful to be back on Vanna's terrace, but at least we have the memory.

Loved this perfect hideaway in Cortona; great location just minutes on foot from the main square with comfortable accommodation and fabulous views across the valley from the terrace. Magical

This was our second visit to Cortona and Vanna's property. Magical is the best description for Cortona, La Terrazza, and most importantly the gracious and attentive manner that Vanna gives her guests. The photos are an exact picture of the place though no photo can duplicate the pleasure of the view from the terrace whether at morning coffee or an evening meal. The magic of Cortona, in addition to the many restaurant and the charm of an unspoiled Toscana medieval hill town is that there is just enough tourism to give it vibrancy, but not enough to make it overcrowded. This is definitely a 5 star location, a 5 star town, and 5 star hostess. Magical!

Awesome views!

Our "happy place"

On this trip, we stayed two weeks at La Terrazza in Cortona. We keep returning to Cortona, and to this apartment, because it's truly special. Communication with Mirko is always prompt and efficient. First, the location of the apartment is ideal - right outside the west wall/entry to the walled city. The apartment is very nicely appointed, the beds soft, and the linens thick. It was spotless when we arrived, as expected. The outside terrace is one of the nicest points of this listing, right outside the living room door with expansive views of the Tuscan valley below Cortona. I spent many afternoons outside on the terrace catching up on my summer reading - when we weren't exploring the Tuscan countryside. Our day trip to Gubbio was a highlight on the funivia. I know we will return to La Terrazza again - and I would recommend it to anyone.

The Best

This spot is perfect for experiencing Italy. Location is great for getting around Tuscany. The apartment is very modern and has all of the conveniences. Very spacious. The Terrace is the crown, a beautiful view of the valley. There are great restaurants easily walked to. We have been to Vanna and Mirko's place before and Vanna is a lovely hostess. When staying here you must have a cooking class with her. An experience in typical dishes of the region. Pasta Fumo to die for! Already thinking of our third trip!

A home away from home

Our suite was exactly the way it was pictured on the VRBO. It was new, spacious, and clean. We really loved the balcony and the view. The building itself is located at the base of old Cortona town so we walked each day through the arch and up to the town centre which holds a very interesting array of houses, bars, restaurants, stores, and other interesting sites. We had a Gelato every day. My husband and I had a cooking class from Vanna for an additional fee outside of what we paid for our suite. We learned how to make about 5 dishes, including teramisu (soooooo gooood!!!) Both Vanna and Mirko were very helpful anytime we had a question or needed anything. We'd definitely stay there again. One other note. Cortona makes an excellent home base because it's in the middle of Italy. You can take a train from Camucia in the next town at the bottom of the hill to anywhere in Italy and get there in 1 to 3 hours depending on where you're going and have time to return to Cortona the same day if you wish. There are also over 50 towns in the Tuscan valley for you to see so there's lots of options. Enjoy and be adventurous!

The highlight of our Italian vacation

I will start off my review by saying that I would HIGHLY recommend this property to anyone. I, along with my sisters and mother, enjoyed it so much that I know I will return some day. We all said that. First, prior to our stay, Mirko was very good with communication and answering any questions that I had. This was the only property in all my stays in Italy that we knew exactly where to go, where to park, who to talk to, etc. This was my first time to Italy so that type of information is highly important and extremely helpful when you are navigating on your own. When my sisters, mother and I arrived into the cute town of Cortona, we were greeted by Vanna, Mirko's mother. Right away she was very warm, friendly and welcoming. Although she said her English was not the best, we were all very impressed with her communication with us. She took us into the home and showed us around the apartment. The place is beautiful and exactly what you see in the photographs. Very clean, updated, tastefully decorated and the views from the large terrace are amazing. She also had a bottle of wine for us as a welcome gift. This was the perfect place after the hustle and bustle of Rome. We stayed 3 nights and we all said we could have stayed longer. It's a perfect location to do day trips to places such as Montepulciano (which I highly recommend), Assisi, Siena, etc. Cortona itself is very nice & quaint and a place to explore as well. Excellent restaurants and shops. Another must and probably the highlight of our entire trip, is the cooking class that you can take with Vanna. It is worth every penny for this private lesson that she gives in her own kitchen and then you enjoy eating the amazing food along with her after you are done. It was so much fun and highly enjoyable. We LOVE Vanna!! Amazing cook and wonderful host! Molto bene!!! Many thanks to Mirko and Vanna for providing such a beautiful place and a memorable experience to celebrate my mother's 70th birthday. We look forward to our return some day. Grazie - Tracy & Family

Cortona Apartment Villa with View

My sister, my niece, her daughter and I enjoyed a week in this lovely villa apartment! It exceeded our expectations with a jaw dropping view, clean, updated furnishings that you imagined would be in a typical home in Tuscany. We were sorry to miss meeting Mirko but were so happy to meet and get to know Vanna! She made us feel welcome with a bottle of local wine and answered our many questions about Cortona, with no problems with translation. We enjoyed a cooking lesson in Vanna's kitchen, this was the highlight of our trip to Italy. She is an amazing cook and throws in lots of joy and kindness to make the evening very special. We were sad to leave after a week's stay but we will return! We highly recommend this apartment!

Why they chose this property

This is my family house and we owned it since ever, as far as we know. My mother, grandparents and great grandparents lived here. It was a big house originally, then divided into 6 smaller apartments.

What makes this property unique

A breath-taking view of the Valdichiana Valley, 2 steps away from a nice park and 5 mins walk from the Historical Centre, the 'Rugapiana' promenade with all its shops, the main square with its clock tower and flight of steps over the 'Piazza'! I also enjoy very much walking at the 'Parterre', a long tree-lined unpaved road that takes you to a Tennis court overlooking the whole Valley...priceless!!!
