Step back in time Mad Men-style in this sleek, recently renovated mid-century modern house in Venice/Mar Vista. Tastefully decorated with period-specific furniture and antiques as well as rare, original music and film memorabilia, this unique home is like a living museum of 20th century pop culture. Property is two miles to the beach.

Hardwood floors, new casement windows, long, galley-style kitchen. Queen bed in the master bedroom and daybed in the guest room. Recently remodeled bathroom with beautiful glass tile, spa tub, rain shower, and vanity with double sink. Backyard features an outdoor deck, tea table, a cactus garden, and a fire pit.

Get in touch with your inner Danny and Sandy as you walk by world-famous Venice High School where they filmed the movie, "Grease", a mere half block away. A stone's throw from everything - the trendy restaurants and shops on Abbott Kinney, the beach, even Costco!

Incredible find in a spectacular neighborhood! Beautiful renovation, very comfortable space, private backyard garden, and very clean. Ample street parking. 20-30 minute walk to lots of shopping and the beach, but also very close to cool spots on Venice Blvd. Very nice and very responsive owner. Felt like a Venice resident for the week. Highly recommended, will stay here again.

Spencer’s property is immaculate. Very spacious and the second bedroom helpful ! We loved the 60’s memorabilia on display and the artwork is tasteful and pleasing !The kitchen is large and well designed. We’re looking forward to return !

The location is great - convenient but off main roads so it’s not overly busy or crowded. The owner is super responsive and helpful, and the house is well outfitted and a delight to stay in. We enjoyed it very much!

The property was clean and nicely renovated. It was very comfortable with plenty of space - so much better than a hotel room! The location was in a great trendy neighborhood with lots of good restaurants in a short distance. The owner was very friendly and attentive to any needs that we may have had. I would highly recommend this property.

We were very impressed by how cozy,clean and comfortable the VRBO unit felt. The only change i would request that the owner replace the day to a queen size bed which would allow 4 people to sleep in the unit.

Home Away From Home

My daughter and I had a great stay at this cute house on Zanja St. Our host Spencer was in contact at the beginning and end of the stay, and made himself available as needed. The house is lovely and clean, providing open space to land at after a day in the city. It felt like a "home away from home", and we would love to return upon future visits to Los Angeles.

Great Location! Private Parking! Spacious! Quiet Neighborhood!

If you are like us that does not like to stay at hotels and want to enjoy the privacy of a spacious home with everything you need at your fingertips, this is a great place to stay. Kitchen had all the amenities, restaurants and shopping all walking distance, very quiet neighborhood and your very own parking space - which was very important for us. Spencer was available 24/7 - ready to help and address your needs. Highly recommended.

Light, clean, spacious, modernist interior; comfortable furnishings, fascinating decor

Best thing was the private and attractive backyard and deck, opening from kitchen and master bedroom. The house was comfortable and well-equipped, full of fascinating pictures, books, rock'n'roll memorabilia. The location is good, near shops and buses, good breakfast round the corner at Maxwells. Not too far from trendy Abbot Kinney and the beach; if you're fit you can walk it. Quiet, interesting neighborhood felt safe. We have lived nearby in Sunset Park Santa Monica, driven by Spencer's corner dozens of times - it was such fun to live there briefly. Great place for entertaining local friends and relatives!

Perfect match for our needs!

We stayed for 2 weeks as we were visiting our daughter who lives and works in the area. We needed a space to accommodate both my husband and myself along our daughter and her pet - as she was having work done at her place. Spencer's home was perfect. It is in a convenient location and easy to walk to shopping and restaurants. The neighborhood is pretty quiet. Spencer was helpful, responsive and very welcoming. The beds were comfortable - even the futon in the second bedroom. The kitchen looks exactly as pictured and it has a lovely back yard.

Beautiful Property

We had a fantastic VRBO experience at this property. The landscaping is gorgeous in the front and back of the house. The home interior is beautiful and we all loved the decor. The house was spotless when we arrived, which is always a big plus. Beyond all that, the instructions for entry were excellent and fool proof, as were the instructions for where stuff (like toilet paper) was stored, or how to operate the dishwasher. Nothing was left to chance. We would stay at this property again in a heartbeat! One thing I'd like to pass on to future renters is you should check out the "26 Beach Restaurant". Fantastic food!

Beautiful place, some comments.

The property is well done overall. It has a vintage movie fan decor. Location is good with tons of restaurants nearby and close to Venice Beach. Walkable neighborhood appears to be very safe. Note should be made for short people, and people with mobility problems that in order to get into the tub/shower, you have to go over a ledge that is more than 2' above the floor. Also, there is only street parking, 2 hour limit, and one morning a week, you must have your car elsewhere for at least 4 hours. We could not get the TV to work, as you must know how to use Roku. Ample hot water through a tankless water heater. Overall a good property for a summer stay.

Great location, fun decor and beautiful kitchen and bath

We had a very nice 3-night stay...house is in a great location, barely two miles from Venice Beach and all it has to offer. The house is set up well for two to four people, I would say. The décor is a lot of fun, with a lot of good-natured kitsch, music memorabilia and classic cinema posters. The amount of care that went into the kitchen and bath remodels is obvious, with high-quality surfaces, fixtures and appliances that I would be happy to have in my own home. The bedrooms are more ordinary but perfectly serviceable...we didn't come here to hang out in the bedrooms, so to speak, so not a big deal to us. Backyard and landscaping are very attractive, though we didn't spend much time there. Spencer was in the guest house during our stay, and he was a very friendly and gracious host...our only regret is not getting to meet Mijo, his famous canine sidecar-riding partner! We would definitely stay here again the next time we're in the area, thanks for sharing your house with us!

I'm a traveller myself and have been the benificiary of incredible hospitality in the many places I've had the good fortune of visiting, so I'm only too happy to share whatever local wisdom I have with you. In my opinion, the Zanja Shangri-La provides the best of both worlds for the visitor - relative privacy and respite from the hustle and bustle of Venice/Santa Monica proper, but close enough to the beach and all the other fun stuff.

Why they chose this property

A lot to love about this neighborhood. The place is a stone's throw away from everything - the trendy restaurants and shops on Abbott Kinney, pretty Marina Del Rey, hip, historic Venice beach, even Costco! And now there's a lot of activity around neighboring Mar Vista as well. Lots of new restaurants and night spots cropping up on Lincoln and Washington boulevards. You won't be lacking for things to do.
