We stayed for short break at Christmas. Everything we needed, the kitchen was well perfect, and felt so homely. Lovely touches, mince pies left, stock of wood for fire, waste bags, salt pepper, milk... Just the little things. Truly happy, and now relaxed after lovely break. Only thing , we didn't want it to end... Thanks again
Keepers Cottage is a very small cottage - I did not appreciate just how small. That being said the space has been put to good use and everything you needed was available. The living accommodation is upstairs with the bathroom/wet room and bedrooms downstairs. The beds are amazingly comfortable and I had the best week’s sleep I have had in a while. It is lovely to be on the farm, to see and hear the animals, including meeting some very friendly farm dogs, and to watch the comings and the goings. If you take a dog there is a great exercise field available. Only two downsides really - the stairs are steep and slippy so if you have an elderly dog or you are a bit infirm this needs to be taken into consideration. We have an arthritic dog who we needed to support up and down. The owner very kindly left a baby gate out for us so that we could ensure he didn’t head off down on his own. I am not a fan of wet rooms but this one does its job - and it would be nice if the radiator worked. The water quality is amazing! The scones, jam and cream left for us were lovely with enough cream for me to have on my porridge for the rest of the week. Overall an enjoyable stay. Cornwall is an amazing county and our rides in and out were full of beautiful scenery.

thank you for your review. i wonder if we should carpet the stairs that may help.
I will look at bathroom radiator it should work,it is however controlled by the thermostat and if the cottage is up to temperature overall it wont come on.
glad you enjoyed your stay
Best wishes John
We absolutely loved our holiday in Keeper’s cottage. It had everything we needed and we would happily stay there again. Great communication with the owner.
An unwelcoming & unpleasant holiday base. No one on site to greet/ check us in or out. The host’s email directed us to Grooms instead of Keepers cottage nextdoor, his error. We had fully moved in our belongings, fridge full, dinner in the oven when a couple arrived 24 hrs later, having been allocated the same cottage.Informed of his mistake and that we were reluctant to move immediately, the owner became abusive and threatening, saying we were trespassing, he would come and throw us out, cut off the electric and water & involve the police/sue us. His threatening behaviour upset us, we wished to book elsewhere but he would not reimburse. Vbro tried to mediate but it’s owners choice to reimburse; they have limited say. When out of arguments, the owner said he was deaf and not wearing hearing aid.We reluctantly moved all our things to Keepers cottage the next day, a very small space with bad furniture choices (bruised legs), a very pokey children’s bedroom and damp sheets and duvet. The bunk is set right against the wall, no ventilation to the back of it. The bathroom is an understairs cupboard, showering is tricky and uncomfortable. All doors in both cottages are badly fitted making a lot of noise opening and closing. The facilities for dogs are good. The owner’s behaviour was appalling, no customer care; clearly limited knowledge/ skills in hosting. As a first visit to Cornwall this leaves a miserable impression. Returning to the cottage after our days out felt tense.
Nice little cottage located at a short driving distance from several touristic places. We enjoyed our stay and it is great if you travel with dogs. We missed a stair gate to make the place a bit safer for babies. Overall,a nice place I would recommend.
It was a peaceful stay, just what we needed quiet, it was nice to wake up to animals and our daughter really loved the sheep and ponies. Would love to go back in summer as they have very nice clean beaches.
Very clean and tidy, all immaculately clean, lovely location. Would definitely go again its so peaceful. It has a separate field for the dogs to exercise. Would definitely recommend x
Good location if you want to get away from it all, nice park-like fenced in dog run, well-equipped kitchen and comfortable living room and you can’t beat the price!
The property was in the middle of farm. Nice property. The owner gave us all the information required before through message and route was also mentioned so precise. Without that it would have been difficult to spot the location. The approach from main road to the property which was a stretch of 2 miles is a single car passage, this alone was tricky but the rest of the stay was amazing.
Property wht its says on the web really relaxing and enjoyable holiday had by myself and the wife plus our dog chester loved it aswell would recommend the cottage to all.
Many thanks
Mr & Mrs Heptinstall
Lovely property in idyllic setting waking to sunshine and birdsong!
Great location as off the beaten track so quiet with no road noise and very convenient for lots of beaches around Padstow but also not far from Fowey, Polperro and Looe. This is on a working farm so expect the sound of sheep and tractors and enjoy the beautiful countryside.
A very thoughtfully organised cottage in a stunning location off the beaten track. A place to return to for recharging the batteries. Thank you so much.

Disliked: Cleanliness
We loved the welcome pack of wine and Scones and clotted cream TYUpstairs was amazing, kitchen/diner and balcony!Downstairs not so much, Musty. All the bedding and towels felt damp and musty on arrival which made all of our luggage and cloths smell for the entire holiday. We couldn't get to see the lake as we weren't aloud to walk through the farm to access it.Such a shame as the location was amazing for touring Cornwall
We had a lovely time.
It is on a working farm so be prepared for smells and very narrow roads. We had several encounters with tractors on single lane tracks.
A smashing property in a lovely tranquil setting. Check in process perfect. Owners respected our privacy. Can't fault it. Will be booking again. If I could have brought your puppy jack Russell home I would have loved tooxx
The farmhouse was ideal. The people on the farm itself were very friendly. Our dog got on very well with the farm dogs. He had a great time playing with them and exhausted himself! It took us a while to get used to the narrow lanes! All in all a great holiday.
Upgraded to Bailiff cottage at no extra cost due to owners double booking . So glad they did ! Lovely cottage , very reasonably priced . Good base for us to visit my husband’s family and for them to visit us Liked is so much have booked the last available week in August, so my family can come too.
We have just spent May bank holiday at Grooms cottage-wow what a place. We took our two dogs with us. One is just 14 weeks old, we needed the break after breeding puppies earlier this year. The cottage was safe and secure, just like it said. The property is set in a rural location however you are just a 30 minute… give or take a few drive away from main attractions. This was more beautiful, relaxing than we could have imagined. We hope they will allow us back.Thank you so much, just what we needed.
We had an amazing time. We had a couple of dilemmas which threatened our entire trip, but the owner and the farm owners were more than happy to help us with which we were so grateful for. You are never more than 30 mins from any beach or activity worth doing. Was so nice to go to sleep listening to the owls and waking up to the cows.

About the host
Hosted by John Drake
Higher Tregawne is a 400 acre beef and sheep farm run by Henry and his family. They keep 400 cattle and 1000 sheep.
John and Caroline live 26 milesaway at Sleeve Farm where they run a Stud Farm
Both John and Caroline are animal lovers with a particular passion for dogs and horses.
They currently have 3 terriers, a Mioritic and a Bearded Collie.
All bar one are rescues and live with us at our other farm.
Why they chose this property
Keepers Cottage is ideal for dogs, couples and small families.
It is rural, quiet, secluded, private, peaceful and yet accessible. It is near to everywhere but next to no where.
Kids's can play and run free with the dogs in the enclosed exercise area and you can watch them from the balcony . Their is virtually no light pollution and no noise although you are right next to a working farm and there may be mooing and sometimes as in silage time machinery working late.
There are supermarkets in Wadebridge which is 3 miles away It is a busy, vibrant place. It has pubs, restaurants, takeaways which deliver, shops and supermarkets and loads of bike hire places on the Camel Trail.
The Coast is 10 miles either way with every sort of beach you could wish for.Take little kids and the dog/s bucket and spading at Daymer Bay. Bigger kids body boarding at Polzeath where they can strut their stuff whilst you sit on the beach and watch. Parents needn't worry if their body boarding looks like 'Dad dancing' only the kids will be embarrassed and it is amazing, come home worn out and covered in sand. There are boards in the shed and smart people buy wetsuits on line before they come. If you are more athletic try surfing or coasteering which is great if you are strongish swimmers. . John and Caroline are one of the last traditional scrumpy makers. If you let us know we will leave you half a gallon in the cottage.
If you like the quiet life there are Stately homes, gardens, shops, Eden Project, Moors, Coast path and other walks. Camel Trail (user friendly cycling i.e.it is flat and you can start and finish in Padstow) restaurants, pubs,Tintagel (King Arthurs Seat), beaches, Jamaica Inn, Daphne Du Maurier, caves ,fishing villages, boat trips, ferry rides, Looe, Fowey, Lands End, Minack Theatre, Steam Trains Lost Gardens of Heligan, Newquay, Zoos, Plymouth Hoe, Churches. Bodmin Gaol, Wine Tasting,Theme parks et al.
Cornwall is full of things to do whatever the weather.
What makes this property unique
Tregawne sits at the head of the Ruthern Valley overlooking its own land.It is privacy personified.
Our own experience of Cottage holidays with dogs have told us that when the brochure says dog friendly it means you can bring your dog. Cottages have had no facilities for dogs at all. We went to Ireland the promised dog proof garden was far from it. The big dogs could jump the gate and the little dogs walk under it. Needless to say it did not lead to a successful holiday far from it.
When you come on holiday with dogs and kids they need space.
We have a fenced exercise area of nearly an acre where your dogs and kids can run free. No walk of shame at 7.30 am and 11.00 pm with a plastic bag although we do ask you to poo pick.
Chuck the dogs and kids out and go back to bed or sit on the balcony and watch them. n.b there is a lake in the exercise area in which dogs and kids and you are welcome to swim but please do be careful and don't leave small children or ones who cannot swim unsupervised. The lake is between I and 2 metres deep in the middle.
We provide a kennel for your use should you want to go somewhere without them (dogs not kids that is) but please don't leave them too long if they are not used to it.
Get them marrow bone from the butchers in Wadebridge.
