We gathered from PA, Ohio, NC - especially loved the space for dinner (grill, kitchen set up well). Signage helps as it well lite for nighttime navigation.
Having additional space in cottage worked well.
This property is absolutely stunning, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, minutes outside of Gordonsville, in the middle of wine and horse country. Old farmhouse and cottage with tons of character. Perfect venue for a weekend with friends and family! Highly recommended!
We loved the house! Wonderful accommodations in a beautiful setting. We especially appreciated the well-equipped kitchen since we all love to eat together. Guests can either relax with a book in a quiet corner or drive a short distance for a variety of outdoor options, including Skyline Drive in Shanandoah National Park. Charlottesville is also close by for groceries, shops, or movies. Perfect for a long weekend reunion!
This property was perfect for our family of 18 to stay. Each person had their space as the family gathered to celebrate the life of their father. Enough space and bathrooms for all family units to have their own space. The grounds are beautiful and the living spaces are well furnished.
We stayed with friends and family for the Montpelier Hunt races. Perfect location for easy access to the races. Perfect size to accommodate all of us- the beds were actually so comfortable that I slept until 10:30 the first morning there!!!!!!! We really enjoyed having our coffee in the sunny morning room. Easy to get what you need from either Orange or Gordonsville.
This is a beautiful property! The grounds are large enough for all ages to be outside and explore or play games. Inside, there are plenty of living and sleeping spaces so everyone is not on top of one another! We stayed in and cooked all our meals, just enjoying each other's company. If I could change one thing, it would have been to have a second oven! We had adults from 28-65 and children 18 months to 8 years old and hope to stay here again!

Beautiful!
We loved the house and Emmie and her team were a joy to work with. The house is gorgeous! Could use a new dishwasher though! We had a pretty large lady bug problem. Emmie and her team came to clean them, but they had infested one side and the upstairs of the house! I know they were working on an exterminator. Place is fantastic for a girls weekend and some wineries! Besides the bugs, which I am sure are gone now it was a great space!
My husband and I wanted a long weekend with friends since we’ve been pregnant for 2 years (2 babies back to back) and this house was the best of both worlds ! Tons of space to hang at the house, and just a short drive to all things VA. The house is absolutely beautiful. Beds are fantastic. Yes, there are a ton of lady bugs and that was a con, BUT it’s to be expected in an older home in the country. We did have to constantly remove them from the bedrooms and bathrooms several times a day, as there were a ton 24/7. But again, we get it ! Owner was so sweet and so easy to get in touch with. The heat wasn’t working when we first got there and she came over right away and fixed it.
We cannot wait to bring the rest of our family to this property in the near future.

Twenty+ friends gathered for three days to reconnect
For twenty years, plus, now three generation of friends have gathered for three days to reconnect. This is the first year we ventured to gather outside the Shenandoah Valley. We were not disappointed! Friends from OH, NC, WVA, PA and Maryland spent months carefully researching and we found a great match in Spotswood for what we wanted. Friends from ages 13 to 80+ enjoyed three days of fishing in nearby pond, hiking on and off the property, cooking delicious food on the garden grill and spacious kitchen, and exploring the gardens with our cameras. This elegantly furnished spacious estate provided ample rooms for us to be together or to slip quietly into a corner either to read, chat, or play games. From the moment we began inquiries, property manager patiently answered our many questions. She then responded enthusiastically to our needs once we arrived onto the property. We unanimously recommend Spotswood for gathering.
Everything was as we expected and wanted. We were having a family reunion in Louisa so it was a little bit further away than we thought, but worked out fine
We had a lovely time. The house is very big and accommodated all 10 of us with several rooms still empty.
The hosts were extremely responsive and quick to support our needs, excellent service really.
We hosted my 40th birthday at the property and it was great. We only had a few minor snafus - invasion of ladybugs and the WIFI is pretty spotty. Other than that, the home is so charming and the perfect place to host an intimate gathering for a few friends and family.
Beautiful property! The house was very spacious and had enough room for 20 adults to sleep comfortably. It was a very nice getaway from the city. Tess and her staff were easily reachable. It was very cold on the first floor of the main house despite turning the heat on but we all just bundled up!
The house and grounds were stunning. Plenty of Space for our family of 14 to be together yet have some space - and take some amazing family pictures. Also super close to the vineyards and Charlottesville.
Wonderful property for a wonderful weekend celebrating a 30th birthday with 18 friends. Plenty of beds and space to spend time together!

Wonderful weekend!
Celebrated our parent’s 50th wedding anniversary! The house was just as quaint ans beautiful as could be! Received a surprise snow fall which made everything picturesque! Plenty of places to socialize and kids were forced to “unplug” and make their own fun. A little cool in some of the rooms, but plenty of blankets. We cooked some amazing meals and had everything we needed. Would love to come back in warmer weather!

Wonderful Trip to Gordonsville
This house comfortably fit our group of 15. Plenty of space in the main house and we really appreciated the large number of bathrooms. The house is also beautifully decorated! We definitely plan to come back!

Wonderful retreat for our large family
Our extended family of 20 people enjoyed Thanksgiving week at Spotswood Lodge. The expansive first floor offered plenty of space to spread out, and the cottage next store provided a quiet retreat from the bustle. Some of the room configurations could be interesting (like the two-twin bedroom that could only be reached by going through the three-twin bedroom), but the mattresses were of great quality and there were plenty of bathrooms.
The grounds were interesting, though unseasonably cold weather kept us mostly inside. We enjoyed easy access to sites like James Madison's Montpelier estate, marked historic walking trails (such as the Battle of the WIlderness Civil War battlefield), and quick trips into Gordonsville. Charlottesville was just 25 minutes away.
Complaints? Not many. The WiFi was dodgy, despite the owner's several valiant attempts to fix it. And because cell reception there is almost non-existent, it could be tough sledding if you have work to do (like I did!). Thankfully, I found I could get mobile data on Verizon if I sat on the right side of the bed in the cottage loft--just enough to get by!
Would I recommend? Absolutely. I was especially impressed at how responsive the owner was when we called with questions or problems--even right before Thanksgiving day.
