Yes, There Are Mini Donkeys! Peaceful Mountain Cabin Retreat
Secluded Smoky Mountain Cabin Near a 65-Acre Bison Ranch
Tucked away in the peaceful mountains of Western North Carolina, this cozy log cabin retreat offers the perfect balance of seclusion, adventure, and one-of-a-kind ranch experiences.
Just three minutes from the main ranch at Buffalo Creek Vacations, this private getaway invites guests to slow down, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and reconnect with nature.
Legend has it that on certain nights of the year, when the moon is just right, the Buffalo Creek bison and their llama friends sneak away from their usual stomping grounds in search of a little peace and quiet. Their favorite place to relax? This tranquil mountain hideaway.
Whether the legend is true or not, one thing is certain — this is a place where relaxation comes naturally.
Wake Up to the Smoky Mountains
Start your mornings watching the sunrise over the mountain peaks as the mist lifts from the Smoky Mountains. Then head over to the ranch viewing platform to watch the herd of buffalo come in for their morning oats at the feeding corral — an unforgettable experience for guests of all ages.
Back at the cabin, enjoy a quiet morning with coffee or cocoa on the large front porch, or unwind in the private hot tub after a day of exploring the mountains.
So Much to Do at the Ranch
Guests staying here have access to exclusive ranch experiences at Buffalo Creek Vacations. Be sure to ask about:
* Be a Bison Feeder for a Day
* Donkey Excursions
* Hollywood Game Night
* Bison Bingo
* Ranch Hand Experiences
* Model Train Museum
* On-site Massages
There’s truly something fun for every member of the family.
Explore the Ranch
Children especially love visiting The BC Corral, a custom-designed play area just a short hike through the woods featuring:
Swings
Zip line
Slides

Cargo nets
Rock climbing wall
Horseshoe pit for the adults
It’s a place where kids can run, climb, and play for hours while parents relax and enjoy the mountain setting.
Peaceful Mountain Escape
If you’re searching for a true “get away from it all” retreat, you’ll find it here.
Scenic hikes across the ranch property
Fishing within walking distance
Easy, flat road access to the cabin
Fully stocked kitchen for family meals
Quiet evenings under the stars
Or take a short drive into town to explore shopping, dining, and antiquing in nearby mountain communities.

We welcome the entire family — pets included!
And yes… size doesn’t matter.

About the host
Hosted by Cheryl Hillis
My brothers & my husband had shared a vision of expanding my fathers buffalo ranch when additional property became available to purchase. With all our knowledge & experiences combine we have built 4 log homes & have been renting them out since 2007. Bison Escape is located just 1 mile down the road & we just purchased this property in 2015 so we can welcome more guest to the beautiful area. Once my husband retires from the US Army in a few yrs our dream will be to build our log cabin on the property & be more hands on. God has blessed us beyond our wildest dreams. We hope you love the mountains like we have all come to love being transplants from a very flat NY!
What makes this property unique
While staying at Bison Escape we feel you will really enjoy the peace & tranquility of being secluded on 7+ acres. Also, with the ability to enjoy all the amenities at Buffalo Creek Vacations, a 65 acre ranch, just 1 mile down the road, we feel children & adults will all love seeing the bison, llamas, miniature horses & goats.
