About this property

Luxury Family Cabin Near Starved Rock - Grandma's Cabin - sleeps 14 maximum

Kishauwau Cabins is a family run cabin rental property just a 10 minute drive from Starved Rock & Matthiessen State Parks. Friday & Saturday nights must be booked together here for weekend rental. You may not check in or out on Saturdays. Our cabins are set on 65 acres of wooded property above the Vermilion River. Grandma's cabin is our largest cabin with 4 bedrooms/2 bathrooms each with a shower and accommodates up to 14 people. This cabin caters to large family reunions here which we see all year long. This cabin offers 4 bedrooms each with 1 queen bed, 2 full bathrooms each with a shower, a fully equipped kitchen with large french door refrigerator, 2 stoves both with ovens, microwave, Bunn coffee pot. The great room area in this cabin is almost 1,000 square feet and is open to 6 twin beds lining 1 of the walls, 3 very long dining tables, the kitchen and living space. This is our only cabin that offers satellite TV reception with a 55" TV and gas fireplace (for winter use only). All cabins have their own personal outdoor bonfire pit and this one keeps numerous picnic tables outside and a large charcoal grill. These are all 4 season cabins that all have central air/heat as well.
Guests absolutely LOVE this cabin and it is usually the hub for large family reunions that rent many other cabins here as well. You will love being so close to the state parks to go do all the hiking, if that is what you have come to the area to do, and then come back to our gorgeous 65 acre wooded property for peace and quiet. That is what we offer our guests here.

Family gathering

We had four families come together for a long weekend. Grandma’s cabin was perfect for us as there were four bedrooms and large living/sleeping/dining space in the middle. It was great for “cousin camp.“ The nearby parks and towns were easy to get to and explore. The host was very easy to communicate with, if needed.

Heatley Family

My family enjoys staying at Kishawau. All 20 family members stay at three different cabins. The ages are from three to seventy-one. We enjoyed wine tasting, football games, and night time fire with some more making. Great place for the whole family!

Nice, quiet place to stay

We stayed here due to the proximity to Starved Rock and Matthiessan State parks and enjoyed our stay. Big enough for 3 families and room for everyone to play outside. Would return without question. Thanks Teresa and Jamie.

New Years getaway

Our group was 3 couples we came to hang out and relax for a few days over New Years. The cabin worked out perfectly. Beds were very comfortable. Linens were provided. Kitchen was stocked with enough dishes and pots and pans. Water is super hard as they note. Wasn’t a problem for us other than made coffee taste horrible so bring your own bottled. Gas fireplace was not operational which was unfortunate so we sat around the fire pit instead. Cabin was plenty warm for winter, ceiling fans helped even the temp in the middle great room.. Oh and very little to no cell service at this location. Those that can’t live without their phone/internet may want to mentally prepare! They do have satalite dish with zillions of channels for watching TV. Would definitely stay here again for a group getaway.

Grandma's Cabin a hit with Grandma and family!

We thoroughly enjoyed this quiet, roomy, comfortable cabin! It was the perfect size for Grandma and Grandpa, their 3 adult daughters and spouses, and 5 teenage grandkids. Because of the heavy rains, we weren't able to hike as much as planned at Starved Rock and Mathieson State Parks, but we didn't mind spending more time at our beautiful cabin. The owners were very helpful and welcoming. This is definitely the place we'll stay the next time we're in the area!

Very nice escape from the City

this place is such a great place to spend time in the middle of the woods with your friends and kids gather around. Only 10 minutes from Starved rock state park where we went to hike and see the nice ice water falls. The cabins are just great, well equipped, very warm and so friendly. thanks to Terisa and her husband, who were very warm welcomed...

Amazingly quaint getaway!

We chose this cabin because it looked like the right size for our group of 5 couples for a retreat mid-winter. I was very impressed; being a cabin, I expected it to be a bit old. It wasn't at all - everything looked rustic but very new. Comfy couches, a great fireplace, and the perfect place to have the deep conversations we all were hoping to have. We will definitely be returning!

FriendsGiving 2014

For the second straight year, we have celebrated "FriendsGiving". As the name implies, our close friends gather at Kishauwau to enjoy Thanksgiving, to reflect, and to have fun. The arrangements in the Grandma's Cabin allow us to accommodate the people, the food, and the laughter. It is an experience that is anticipated every year, with the exception of the much colder weather. We always reserve the Illini Cabin. This cabin is great for a family or two. Kishauwau is a permanent entry on our list of things to do and I get to relive old Boy Scout adventures. We, my family, always have a wonderful time. The staff at Kishauwau are generous and looking to make one's stay a bit better. Maybe one of these years they will come over and share some fun. Thank you.
