Staying in la heliconia was an unique experience. The place has it's own little quirks which are ... less than charming. if I had to summarise in one sentence it would almost be like staying at an unfamiliar relatives house. Little things like holes in the towels and sewn up sheets to rotating cutlery and less little things like having to repeatedly get up in the night to trip the fuse so you don't have to sleep in unrelenting heat.
Positives are, Debbie is very nice and every time I complained she made an appearance and showed effort in wanting to have the problem solved, unfortunately her staff do not show the same enthusiasm for their jobs. I was met with hostility when I asked for the beds to be changed and when I commented on it was told "we only change the bed once every 4 nights" which is unacceptable and unmentioned in the policy.
There are also other things which were .. less than pleasant such as my daughter burning her finger on the kettle as it continued to boil long past its point, a mattress so stained and covered in dirt it rubbed off on the floors, surprise appearances of dirt on the mattresses, layers of dust on the wall sconces, dirty towels, mouldy towels, dirty pillowcases.
The lack of thoroughness from the cleaning team is astonishing, a full room clean includes remaking the beds even though there are no clean sheets, refolding damp towels and placing them on your bed, washing up and changing the bins. which if the room was clean initially wouldn't be a problem but as the aforementioned layer of dust atop the sconces would suggest it wasn't. the bathroom was very dusty a lot of cobwebs, the pool a facility we were excited to use at the time was often the host to a lot of waste, a cup here a rapper there etc.
Also the smell in the bathroom was awful and was mentioned when I first arrived however nothing was done. When commented on a second time moth balls were thrown in the shower when I complained about the moth balls they were moved... from the shower to behind the toilet.
Landscaping could be better a view of the grass by the pool was seen from my room and it could do with being mowed. Also AC was not available outside of the bedroom area and therefore we could not use the sitting and kitchen area as we would like due to it being unbelievably hot. The internet was unsecure connection and not very good, we did pickup a secure connection however Debbie denied this was not given the password for the secure connection
