About this property

Treetops is a true mountain get-a-way - it's paradise!

Treetops is a gorgeous 3 bed/2 bath mountain home that comfortably sleeps 6 people. The spacious layout provides room for comfort, privacy and gathering. Whether you’re watching your favorite movie on one of the two HD TV’s, playing a family game by the fireplace or sitting on the expansive deck enjoying the fresh mountain air, the sounds of nature and counting fireflies - Treetops has it all.

Treetops is a true mountain home. Although close to the city, you’d never know it as beautiful trees, rhododendron and mountain views provide you a private mountain retreat. You’re also a short scenic drive to many Western North Carolina wonders and attractions including: Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, the Pisgah National Forest – with its famous waterfalls and Sliding Rock, Apple Valley and the Biltmore Mansion in Asheville, to name a few. For the outdoor enthusiast, we’re close to horseback riding, hiking, biking and rafting. The town of Hendersonville is just a short drive “down the mountain” and features many fine restaurants, shopping, “antiquing”, street concerts, beautiful parks, and other events.
Due to the mountain gravel road, it is recommended that vehicles are 4 wheel or All Wheel Drive. Although, most SUV's perform just fine. Standard 2 and 4 door sedans or low clearance vehicles are not recommended.

A few comments from Past guests:

“We just had to email you a let you know what a wonderful time we had at Treetops. To escape the city and enjoy a week at your mountain paradise was incredible. We spent the days enjoying the sites of the area – the Biltmore Mansion was breath-taking – and the evening on the amazing deck. A cool mountain breeze and a picturesque view made for great memories. It was our first time to Treetops, but it won’t be our last”.
“I wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our time at your home. My wife and I spent our honeymoon there and it was everything we’d hope it would be. We really enjoyed the fact that it was “off the beaten path” a bit and could relax, unwind and feel totally at home.”
“Wow – what an amazing time we had in the Smokies and at your home. My wife and I went with our two children. Hendersonville is quaint, but offers some great dining and wonderful locally owned shops. The drive through the Blue Ridge and Pisgah National Forrest was incredible. We even stopped off and took the kids down Sliding Rock! Back at your home, it was a relaxing and enjoyable time. We ate a few dinners on the deck and even found time to watch on movie with the kids.”

Peaceful and relaxing

This was an excellent place for a retreat getaway, very peaceful. I also enjoyed the nearby apple orchards, wineries, cideries and Chimney Rock State Park.

Enjoyed the stay

We enjoyed the peace and quiet. Our checkout procedure was simply to lock the door behind us - a welcome change from rentals that charge you to clean plus expect you to clean.

Pretty scenery and a cute house

Very nice house, enjoyed my stay there. The driveway is steep, but for what it is worth I was able to drive my hundai Elantra up without getting stuck.

Treetops was fantastic. The location was perfect for my reunion. The porch overlooking the trees offered great views. Highly recommend.

Everything we needed. Really enjoyed Treetops

We really enjoyed our stay here. House was charming and had all of the comforts of home. I was in town for a Spartan race and we really enjoyed having Chimney Rock and Lake Lure nearby. The drive from Bat Cave to Black Mountain on Hwy 9 (Sidewinder) is probably one of my favorites. I enjoyed the drive up to the place in my 4wd truck... My mother-in-law in her minivan?? Not so much, lol. Thanks for being dog friendly and thank you for having us!

Kind of disappointed

House was a nice size. The view was beautiful. The GPS did not take us to the house. It took us into the small neighborhood, but, it took us to the left instead of to the right. The road up to the house was so steep that my husband insisted on driving the van up the road. There were plenty of things to do in the area, but because of the road to the house, we only went down the road once a day. My husband's truck ended up getting stuck in the ditch. We had to pull it out with our van. The neighbor says - that happens all the time. All weekend, we were thankful that it had not snowed. Low and behold, the last night it iced and snowed for 12 hours. (even though there was only a 5% chance of precipitation.) Thankfully, it didn't ice long before it turned to snow. While the floors, bathroom and kitchen were clean - there were issues with the cleanliness of the house. There was no room to put our garbage in the garbage can. We had to put it to the side. The fireplace had left over ashes in it. The towels were musty smelling. Also, there was rat droppings in an empty drawer in the kitchen. There were no window treatments on any of the rooms upstairs (even the bedrooms). While there was a day when people would say there is nothing this high to see in - there are droids that people use to take pictures. (It's more than a little unnerving.) While they do have internet, they do not have a lot of bandwidth. We liked to stream movies. If we were streaming movies, no one could be on their phone at all, because it would impact the movie.

Charming Home in a great location

Property was charming and located in a great area for both shopping and beautiful tourist attractions such as Dupont Natural Forest, Chimney Rock, and Lake Lure. Property was clean . All rooms were equipped with supplies needed. A four wheel drive vehicle is recommended for mountain driving. I would certainly recommend this property to my friends and family.

Good, but...

We enjoyed our time in Hendersonville but the issues getting to the house were significant. After reading comments regarding the road to the house we rented an SUV rather than drive our vehicle. Unfortunately even with a full size SUV we had problems getting up the road leading to the house. I don't see how a car could make it. And we had to cut our day short everyday as you have to get back to the house before dark..you could not get up that road in the dark. I do think this needs to be disclosed in the ad.

Treetop house is a Joke

We were there for our 23rd wedding anniversary and it was the most horrible vacation weekend we ever encountered. Bed in the master bedroom was horrible, the house was smelly like musty closed in smell. If you don’t have a 4-wheel drive, you will not get to the house. They do not tell you that until after you pay your money. It was so bad we left the next morning and finished our stay at Holiday Inn Express. Nothing is modern everything is outdated. The TV in the movie room does not work and the channels on the bedroom is limited, I had to use my laptop to watch a good movie. Do not waste your money on this house! I don’t want anyone to experience what we experienced. The Jones’s

Long weekend getaway……close to Asheville

Prompt and courteous communication! The place was impeccable and the large deck was awesome. If you are looking for solitude with all of the amenities, this is the place. We were also excited to explore the local area and find many gems.

Home away from home

Very homey and cozy. Great location. Our family went to Sliding Rock, Exclamation Point, Mount Mitchell, Little Switzerland, and High-Triple Falls, which is not too far from the cabin. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Not as expected.

Although they did warn about the driveway, we got stuck more than once and had to get out and push our car in the pouring rain. The house was dirty with bugs and creatures all in the house and on the floor. Interesting because of how much we paid for cleaning fee. The house REEKED of something rotting under the stairs of which my boyfriend slipped and broke his ankle on yesterday and now needs surgery. The whole stay was over $1,000 to push my car, kill bugs and get ankle surgery. Not worth it.

Restful

Our visit to this treetop home was very restful. Many knickknacks. The very last part of the drive up is a bit tricky if you’ve never driven on a bumpy mountain road. We ate, we read we rested!

Lovely view, warm atmosphere

Just as described, a very clean well appointed home with a view in the tree tops. A great place to get away and relax once you have reached your destination. Highly recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle to navigate the gravel road. But once you arrive it feels like home.

Paradise getaway

We were able to get away in a beautiful cabin in a serene area. Only one problem with the pathway into the cabin had washed away, but the owners handyman fixed the problem by the day we left! Thanks Dave and Terry!! We hope to come back soon!!

Very Homey with Great Central Location!

Treetops has all the comfort and conveniences of home! It is also super clean! We absolutely didn't have to bring anything with us except our clothes and groceries! Beds were comfortable with extra blankets, towels, spices, and paper products available if needed. We only had one slight problem with the internet not coming through, which may have been our fault with too many devices being used, but Dave was quick to help and get it up and running again. The location is quiet and secluded with beautiful views, yet not far from conveniences and plenty to do in either direction. I had been a little concerned with the drive up but we had no problems at all in our Ford Expedition ( not 4 wheel drive). We primarily went for snow tubing at Moonshine Mt. and had a blast! We drove up to Jump Off Rock, which happens to be where my husband proposed to me 41 years ago, a beautiful spot! We also enjoyed a hike to Triple Waterfalls, gem mining at Elijah Mt., Strolling downtown Hendersonville, eating lunch at Mike's on Main, and playing some rousing games of Monopoly (we brought with us). All in all it was a great family trip and appreciate Dave sharing his home with us! Hope to visit again someday!

Great stay, Great View

We stayed over NYE and it was perfect for our needs. We had 4 adults and one Infant. The view really is spectacular, feels like you are on the side of a mountain (because you are). The driveway and road up to the home is very steep and rocky, it could be difficult to traverse at night.

Location!

Wonderful location off the beaten path, up in the mountains, right outside of chimney rock. Great place to get away from the tourist, and still a 30-40 min drive everywhere. Dave was very helpful and accommodating. Very old appliances, feels like you are in the 80s, could you an outside fire pit! Make sure you buy wood in the winter or bring an axe!

Great mountain stay

The house was very well equipped, as described. Going up the mountain definitely gets you off the beaten path. We enjoyed going to the antique stores in Hendersonville, stopping for local apples and hard cider, and hiking the nature preserve. You definitely want an SUV to rent this property, but the location among the treetops is worth the drive. Thanks for sharing your house with us.

About the host

Hosted by David Doroshow

Host profile image
My mother and father - Bonnie and Sid- built Treetops in 1990 as their dream home. Being from Florida, they wanted to escape the heat and enjoy the fresh mountain air while enjoying the wonderful views.
Now living in Florida full time again, my mother wants others to enjoy her house that has made so many lasting memories.

Why they chose this property

Again, Sid and Bonnie wanted a retreat from the heat of Florida and "city life". They built Treetops as their "little piece of paradise". A place they could enjoy both inside and out. The location was out of town, but not too far. Being in the beautiful North Carolina Mountains, but having the amenities of the city close at hand was (and continues to be) a perfect combination.

What makes this property unique

Unlike many mountain "Cabins", Treetops is a true 3 bedroom, 2 bath home. It's multi-floor layout is perfect for a family or multiple couples. The private balcony off the master bedroom offers great views, while the large deck on the main level is great for gatherings, dinner, an evening cocktail or just chatting. The master bathroom is a "destination for relaxation" with its large claw foot tub - a perfect ending to great day.
