About this property
Enchanting 100 year old cottage nestled at end of uniquely designed driveway.
NOTE: Disregard any VRBO timing input if your inquiries are not responded to within 24 hours (usually it is within only a few hours)
This 100 year old "tiny house" (476 sq.ft) was showcased in the 2014 Historical Old West Side Home Tour and enjoys the largest yard on a two-block street. The secluded locale is hidden under a canopy of walnut and maple trees with lush foliage, bordered by a large hand painted mural wall, making it unseen by passer bys and when Googled. This is a "shabby-chic" cottage with understated interior "mood" lighting, paintings and artifacts which make for a unique and inviting retreat located just 5.5 blocks from a sea of University of Michigan home games' "frenzy". The cottage is perfect for one-two people, but the living room sofa/bed will accommodate one more nicely...perfect for one-two night visits but may be tight for longer stays. The driveway will accommodate 2 cars which makes for a perfect tailgating setting. This secluded cottage has been praised by visitors for being an inviting and magical hideaway, feeling large and spacious for its actual size (14' x 34'). It is located in a very quiet neighborhood of professionals and academicians, offering a soothing "retreat" for temporary or possibly long term professional stays. It is hidden steps away from the U-M "Big House", numerous downtown restaurants, bars and shops, plus The University of Michigan's main campus and University Hospital...virtually all within walking distance. Auto, public bus or train provides easy access to Detroit, Lansing, the Detroit Metro International Airport or Chicago. The neighborhood consists primarily of professionals working at the University of Michigan, the Michigan Hospital network,, Google and various research companies located in Ann Arbor and Detroit. PLEASE NOTE: * In case you miss it in the specific offerings of this cottage, there is NO direct AIR CONDITIONING available. This is usually not a problem ...as the tree canopy keeps the cottage very comfortable most of the time....especially for fall home game football weekends!!!!! * THIS IS THE PERFECT LOCATION FOR FOOTBALL ENTHUSIASTS (as well as other campus sports throughout the year, plus the nationally well known art fair held in July)....all in walking distance! * You will find Starbuck coffee with cream awaiting you! * Food and beverages in pantry and refrigerator are not for consumption. * This cottage RECYCLES! * IMPORTANT: Disregard any VRBO timing input if your inquiries are not responded to within 24 hours (usually it is within only a few hours)...if timing is an issue for you, please feel free to contact direct at 734.996.3504

The cottage and property are wonderful! This a haven on a very nice street close to the stadium and also convenient to other locations in town. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would want to be here if I return to Ann Arbor again.
The owner was super responsive and very friendly. Less than 15 minute walk to downtown which was perfect for checking out all the cute shops, bars and restaurants.

delightful guests AND their dog, Crosby, was equally engaging
Great spot to stay for a football game in Ann Arbor. It is small (as advertised) but was just fine for our group of three. The cottage is super cute and full of interesting art. Roth was lovely!
I’ve been going to the arts festival for decades now. I usually stay in a hotel on campus, but decided to bring the dogs this time. Will be staying there again. Wonderful location, wonderful host.

Small but great location and has parking!
The cottage is small but has all you need. We loved the close proximity to Michigan Stadium and campus. Roth was great - I accidentally booked the cottage for the wrong days and she caught the mistake and clarified with me right away. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again.

Laura and family were a delight to have visit.
Had I not known that they were staying there I would
never been able to tell. I would definitely enjoy
having them and their "little one" stay again!!!!
We enjoyed our stay on the Old West Side in Ann Arbor. Great location to both downtown & the stadium. We loved our morning walk for coffee & donuts. I didn’t have to use my car all weekend.
We stayed here for graduation weekend. The location is perfect—walking distance to the Big House as well as to downtown restaurants. Roth is an awesome host, explained all the nuances the house, and even had some great Starbucks coffee. The cottage is very comfortable and much better than staying at a hotel—we will definitely try to stay here again the next time we are in Ann Arbor!
We enjoyed our time at Roth's home - she went out of our way to make us feel welcome and it was the perfect home base for visiting the city. We enjoyed biking and walking around town and Chatti (the cat) was a highlight. The home was cozy and good for a single visitor or couple.
This is the second time we have stayed here! Such a special place! Easy walk to Michigan Stadium one direction and easy walk to downtown to he other direction! (Great seafood restaurant downtown!). Loved seeing Chatti Cat again! He is such a sweetie. Roth is awesome!

LOVELY guests....warm and gracious. Left the cottage spotless and took good care of my Chatti (cat)....I hope to see them in the future if they venture this
way again.....You will not regret having them stay at your house!
We loved staying at the cottage. The location incredibly convenient to campus, the stadium and downtown. The actual cottage is darling. So much charm and although quite small, fully equipped and comfortable for our family of 3 adults to both relax and sleep well. We could not have an easier time checking in and out and Roth is a wonderful host who made us feel very welcome. We will definitely be back soon!!
This is the quintessential Ann Arbor art house experience. A unique and funky little cottage chock full of art objects. It is the perfect location for a football weekend, within walking distance of the stadium and room for tailgating in the front yard driveway.

About the host
Hosted by Roth Woods
I have lived in this cottage for 35 years, first renting what was affectionately called a "shack". As a tenant I did major landscaping in what was a barren yard except for a huge black walnut tree … at one time I could park 12 cars on a football Saturday! Since my purchase in 2003 I have designed a driveway and walkway which did not previously exist and have converted this 14' x 34' home into what others call an "artist's cottage". The original small front porch has been expanded to include a secluded deck with a pergola.
I am a graphic designer, painter and interior designer and have projected my interests throughout my cottage. I share my space with 1 friendly, senior cat. For the past 30+ years I feed night time visiting raccoons who come to enjoy fresh water and dried dog food. They will not bother you. I will make sure that the raccoons are fed during your stay in the cottage. Note: I feed one feral cat and may ask you to put out one can of cat food each day.
Why they chose this property
Aside from the uniqueness of the cottage's interior decor, the hidden landscaped location in what is Ann Arbor's historical district is considered to be too perfect for attending home games plus is easily accessible to Ann Arbor's numerous downtown offerings and The University of Michigan's main campus. Together the cottage interior combined with the exterior porch/deck area can nicely accommodate up to 15 guests for parties…thus reinforcing the saying "less is more". The full sized bed is perfect for two, and when necessary the living room's loveseat sofa/bed will comfortably sleep one additional guest. NOTE: This street primarily houses professionals affiliated with the university, the renowned university hospital and Detroit executives. This can be a perfect "retreat" for visiting professionals on a short term or possibly semi-long term stay.
What makes this property unique
You will find larger homes throughout the city, but you will definitely not find one of this artistic environment and uniqueness. Although it is a small space, it constantly surprises visitors for its generous warmth and roominess. This is a "happy house" with strong bones and good vibes and you are invited to make this cottage your home while in Ann Arbor. Special rates for visiting professionals and academicians needing accommodations for short term (2-6 weeks) and long term stays may be available....TBD. The neighborhood consists primarily of professionals working at the University of Michigan, the Michigan Hospital network,, Google and various research companies located in Ann Arbor and Detroit. Great location with easy transportation access.
