This was a quaint cozy 3-bedroom house. Weather was perfect so we didn't use the AC or heater. The covered breezeway was so wonderful for chatting sipping wine and relaxing. Restaurant, music venue, and park all within walking distance.
Our family enjoyed our stay in this charming old house. Though it only has one bathroom, we made it work for the five of us. We would definitely stay again.
Cute house wirh some beautiful furnishings. Thw inly problem is the lack of cellular service and wifi. Not the fault od the property or owner. Just made it difficult to communicate with our group and foe the teenagers to "connect".
A quaint historical property that feels like home. Would recommend this property for families or couples. Easy to find with a great location. Perfect alternative when visiting the area.
Fit our needs fine. Needed a place in that part of the world for family visit on nearby ranch. Appreciated the personal host welcome and tour of property. Also appreciated multiple night lights! One minor suggestion from old folks would be safety bar in shower. Will be back!
Enjoyed our 2nd stay at this home. Place is always super clean and check in process was simple. We will continue to rent this place when we come down as long as its availble!
Stayed here in the past and did not disappoint again
Always clean and inviting I love staying here it is quiet and secluded I highly recommend staying here
The house is very comfortable. It has everything you need. We stayed a week and went in different directions to enjoy seeing the area. We felt it to be a great location out of the hub.
We had such an amazing stay here!! We traveled to Fredericksburg during the day and had a beautiful drive between the house and Fredericksburg. If you're traveling to this area, I highly recommend this place!! The hosts were so kind and helpful!! I hope to stay here again!!
Place was super clean! Had lots of extra supplies if needed! Gas station close, Mexican restaurant, and the longhorn cafe we ate breakfast at both days!! Saturday night there was a live band across the street, we got our pjs on and sat in the front porch and enjoyed it! Definitely will be back when weather is warmer to enjoy the outside stuff better! Loved the charm and history of the place, we all 3 said multiple times we felt like we were staying the weekend at grandma's house!
We stayed here for New Years as we have friends that live in the area. The property was super clean and location was perfect. Check in process was easy and owners are super friendly. We will rent again in the future for sure!

About the host

My siblings and I grew up in Harper, attended the same school as our father (who is now the owner of the Kaiser Haus along with our mother). At that time we had K-12 all under the same roof with just steps to separate the elementary and junior high. We grew up 2 blocks from this home and have many childhood memories. My sister, brother, parents, cousins, Aunts and Uncle's still live in Harper. They continue to have many ties to the Harper community. My sister, dad and I have worked many hours getting this home ready to share with others. The blessing is we have created many new memories. I live in the nearby town of Kerrville married my firefighter husband 30+ years ago. I have a career in the Salon industry. Thank you sis, dad and husband Jeff for a great journey.
Why they chose this property
This 1938 lovely rock home was purchased by my Grandparents Chester and Anita Tatsch in 1952 from William and Theresa Kaiser who were the original owners. Prior to this home there was a 2 story house on this site which was where the first Catholic Church Services were held. The front steps that lead up to the house were once part of a post office in San Antonio. The current laundry room was my grandfather's smokehouse. Not to worry not a hint of smoke can you smell. The meat was stored here through the winter months. It was also a storage area for the canned goods from the gardens and fruit trees. The current grill area was my grandmothers laundry area. She had an electric washer that agitated the clothes however we had to put the clothes through a ringer into a tub of rinse water and back through the ringer. Summer or winter this is where the laundry took place. The corner area is where the water was heated for laundry, baths, cleaning and making lye soap it still remains in this space. My sister and I have fond memories of helping my grandmother with the wash. This space is also where our family made sausage. My grandfather still has his recipe on the wall. Watching the parades from the front porch was a treat and is one of many childhood memories of this home. My father inherited this home from his parents and we feel blessed that this home has remained in our family. My parents decided to update it and list it as a vacation rental. I love going home to our quite community.
What makes this property unique
Harper offers something very unique. A safe, quite place where you can walk to our community park, visit the local Pioneer Memorial Museum, or library, grocery store, the antique store across the street, the Longhorn Cafe, that has been around since I can remember. We also have a wonderful Mexican food restaurant Los Tres Potrillos. Wanting to listen to live music check out the our local Headwaters Saloon. Harper also has a number of community churches. The great thing about this house is it's charm, location, and history. It's less than 30 minutes from wine tours, shopping, restaurant's and museum's in the nearby towns of Kerrville and Fredericksburg.
