The property is back from the water and dock, but has a view out through trees to the water from the patio. It was very nice to be able to walk down to the dock and take the boat out whenever we wanted. The boat and house were well maintained and communication with the owner was smooth, as was the check-in. The kitchen was appropriately stocked with supplies and the cake was welcome. The van worked OK and made the trip very convenient - just walk off the plane, grab the van and be in the house and even on the water with no hassle or lines.
This is my second visit to Kingfisher Cabin, and I highly recommend this place for the location, fishing, and equipment.
The cabin and location is ideal. Leslie and Larry are fantastic. We were welcomed by a basket of blueberry bread and canned salmon. The blueberry bread was delicious and the salmon we saved for home. Having a boat available to fish all day is worth the trip. The twin engine is fully equipped to fish either halibut or salmon and we caught plenty. We hired Larry for a charter and caught even more fish. The house is fully equipped with everything including a deep freezer and their is a large marina less than a mile from the house where you can vacuum pack your fish or there is a packer next door to the marina and they will pack it for you.
You can not go wrong with this rental.
What an amazing stay. Loved the property, the location and Larry and Leslie were wonderful. We had a wonderful time fishing and seeing the humpbacks every day. We are already planning to come back next year and stay for at least a week.

Fantastic getaway package..just show up and have fun!
Larry and Leslie have taken all the work out of making your stay in Ketchikan really easy and memorable.
When you arrive at the airport the Kingfisher Cabin van is waiting in the parking lot. You take a short 5 min ferry ride to town and then you can hit the grocery store, shop in town or go get lost in the beauty of Southeast Alaska.
After arriving at the cabin and getting settled in, Larry does a quick walkthrough of the boats that are available to use as well as sharing little gems of knowledge of the area. There's so much to do whether it's a short hike to watch bears eating salmon or finding the best crabbing spot.
The town is also enjoyable to visit with many things to do and see.
Truly a fantastic spot that will give you lasting memories of great beauty and fun.

AWESOME!!
What a wonderful vacation! We had been to Ketchikan 2 years ago for self-guided fishing and had a great time. However, this trip stole the show!! The Jackson's have a gem in the accommodations they offer!! The Kingfisher Cabin has all of the amenities that we needed and then some! The view from the cabin and deck were spectacular! The boat was incredible! Their family are a treasure and made us feel so welcome! We fished hard every day and caught plenty. Our nephew, who had joined us, has already reserved this rental for next year. We fully intended to take advantage of the sauna, but fishing was our focus. When we return, we will make time to relax in it! This Cabin and package is by far the way to stay in Ketchikan!! Thank you Larry, Leslie, Josie and Bridger for making this a trip to remember!!

Beautiful cabin in the perfect location, couldn't ask for a better package for a fishing trip
Cabin is very clean and spacious with plenty of nice beds. Great boat on a private dock, we just woke up and walked down to the water. Owners were very accommodating and helpful, providing everything we needed for a great trip. I've been to Ketchikan several times and this was the best cabin/boat combo I've ever rented. If you really want to experience fishing in Southern Alaska, this is the place to stay.

The Boat is Bad News !
We are 2 couples who went to fish. We both are long time boat owners and fish often. We had so many problems with this boat. The boat has a windlass but it does not work. The boat has 2 down riggers but they didn't work. The throttle is so stiff that my wrist hurt for days. The boat has a front window that won't stay open. The anchor and rode are kept on the bow in a large basket that hampers your vision which is dangerous because of the numerous boats in the area. The engine failed while we were there because of a leak in the coolant system. We lost half a day of fishing.
The boat does not have a raw water wash down system. When you catch fish you are required to pull 5 gal buckets of water from overboard and then scrub the blood by hand. On our last day we spent an hour cleaning the boat. It was cleaner than when we received it. That is a waste of time because you are still charged a cleaning fee!
The boat has an inboard engine which requires frequent bilge pumping. There is no automatic bilge pump so you must do it manually. We forgot to turn it off and it burned up. We offered to pay for a new pump. When you fish you are required to raise and lower the small kicker engine which has a steering rod attached to the out drive. We lost the prop and steering rod on the last day. We did not hit anything and did not run with the kicker down. Even in the up position, the prop and rod are in the water. Larry suggested that this could have been the result of corrosion. We were charged the entire $500
deposit as if it were our fault. We will not go back.

We appreciate Dick's comments however, he is not being accurate. A coolant pump did go out in the afternoon one day and we had it repaired by 6 pm, maybe 2-3 hours of down time. They were able to troll with the kicker for most of the afternoon. As for a shifting lever being stiff, not sure what to say? I have a master's license and 35 years of boat experience and it is no harder than most. There is no wash down hose and it is a simple process to use a bucket to rinse the deck. The deck is self bailing. On the last day Dick informed me that the steering rod, and trolling motor prop were missing as well as one of the bilge pumps not working. I wasn't sure what happened. I hauled the boat after they left. the mount for the tie bar was missing on the outdrive and the kicker. After discussing this with the local shop they laughed and said this happens all of the time when charter guides leave their trolling motors down. The props spin too fast and comes off, we were lucky the lower unit wasn't destroyed. So It's pretty safe to say that the trolling motor was left down and the full speed of the boat pulled the mount system and tie bar and kicker prop off. The total was $600 in parts (not to mention the labor) so we kept $500 in damage deposit. As a conscientious host and 20 year Alaskan guide I am sorry that they are disappointed, but no one was hurt and they returned safely with fish every day!

AWESOME!
We loved our stay, just minutes from fishing – we are do it yourselfers so this was perfect for us. We caught salmon every time we went out! The cabin is incredible and was very clean, comfortable and spacious and was nicely stocked. The owners were right there to help with anything we needed. Early one morning I went down to the pier with my coffee and a humpback whale came right over to say hi, he put on quite a show! Unforgettable! Including the car, boat and house, this was worth every penny and we will definitely be back next summer and I would recommend this property to any do it yourselfers!

Perfect!
We had a fantastic time staying at this cabin in Ketchikan. The hosts, Larry and Leslie, were extremely hospitable, and provided everything we needed for a great trip. The cabin itself is gorgeous, and included every amenity and supply we could have wanted and more. The beds were very comfortable. Having the van saved a big car rental expense, and we had a great three days fishing on their well-appointed boat -- brought home a nice halibut and lots of salmon.
The location is perfect, right near Knudsen Cove marina, and very close to some of the local fishing lodges. We caught some nice coho just a minute or two from the dock.
The town of Ketchikan is an easy 15-20 minute drive, and if you do go into town for dinner, we had a great meal at the Ocean View Restaurant -- I was a little unsure about a "Mexican/Italian" restaurant, but was pleasantly surprised.
I highly recommend this listing, and hope to return myself before long.

About the host
Hosted by Leslie Jackson
About the owners: Larry Jackson was born and raised in Ketchikan and is the quintessential Southeast Alaska “jack of all trades.” Larry grew up with 7 siblings and his parents owned and operated one of the first flight-seeing businesses in Ketchikan: Revilla Air. Larry went to Eastern Washington University and received an Industrial Arts degree with a teaching certificate. Over a span of about 15 years, Larry fished commercially as crew on seiners, as a sea cucumber diver and owned/fished a Dungeness crab permit. Larry has a passion for working with the local wood of the Tongass National Forest and opened a commercial sawmill in 2005 and a pellet mill in 2011. Now Larry spends his time charter fishing out of Knudson Cove Marina and creating custom wood products at the mill. Leslie arrived in Ketchikan from Texas in 2005 to work as a planner for the Ketchikan Gateway Borough. She met Larry soon after and they were married on their property in 2008. They built their custom home in 2009. It features the various local species of wood, local art and lots of character. Larry and Leslie have two small children, Josephine and Bridger.
