About this property

Secluded, Romantic, Private, on the Water

This romantic cottage located on historic 'Ark Row', has a quiet, peaceful setting with a lovely view across the bay. The cottage itself is located in town on its own private dock over the water. It is not 'near' the water, nor does it simply have a 'view of' the water. Drop a pebble a the dock and is splashes into the water. Read or write, dine or observe a parade of maritime life: sailboats, diving Pelicans, and curious seals. Though ten minutes to the Golden Gate Bridge and 15 minutes to downtown San Francisco, you will be in your own secluded world.

Throughout Marin County there are fabulous biking and hiking trails with kayak and boat rentals available in Sausalito. The mini environment of maritime Sausaiito has long been recognized as the most temperate weather in the Bay Area - cool in summer and characteristically fog free most of the year.

Available for long or short term rental, historic waterfront ' ARK' (House on a dock.)

Great little getaway spot!

You can't ask for a better location, everything is walkable. The unit is small but that is more than offset with the view and location. Very clean, parking is easy, and you can't get any closer to the water!

Best Place in Sausalito

Great location, right on the water, close to shops and restaurants. Plenty of sea life to gawk at right off the deck. Seals, pelicans, herons, etc.

Perfect location for everything!

Marion's Sausalito dock house is charming and welcoming. It is located in a perfect location to walk to everything in town with many restaurants nearby. Marion was an awesome host and we hope to return many times in the future. There is so much more to explore around Sausalito.

Tiny place with gorgeous views of the wildlife, in the center of the action.

Holiday trip to a new place. Great seafood dinners, in walkable area. Views over the bay to SF are great from the brewery. Enjoyed watching the birds, harbor seals and gulls. When the tide comes it water splashes under your feet, very nautical experience without setting sail.

Charming & Cheerful

This waterfront cottage was the perfect getaway to explore Sausalito. Walking distance to fabulous restaurants and shops. The cottage is filled with original art, vintage rugs and charming furniture and is painted the happiest sunny yellow color that you feel like you are living in a doll house. The bed is comfortable. Shower is hot with good water pressure and the portable heater provides warmth on a chilly night while the cross breeze easily cools down the cottage on warmer days. Even though it is a one room cottage, there is also plenty of outside seating so we never felt cramped. Watching the tide ebb and flow and all the wildlife and boating activity right from our on the water location was delightful. Marion was readily available to answer any questions and was a great host that we had the pleasure of meeting.

This site was just as described online.

We used this location as our place to rest our heads at night. It was perfect for that. It’s within an easy walk of the San Francisco ferry and multiple restaurants. We had easy and free parking for our car, but a truck would work too if needed. It’s a one bed unit with shower. Kitchen space includes a stove, microwave, toaster, necessary dishes and pots, and a mini fridge. Water pressure was great. Mattress was very firm, which my husband really appreciated. There is an outside table to sit and watch the water fowl and sunrise. There are bars a couple doors away but we were never bothered by noise. It was warm the first few nights and the windows don’t open. So we had to sleep with the doors open. Luckily we had no intruders of ANY kind. If you use wash rags I suggest you bring some. Towels were very soft. The place was clean. Despite it backing up to the owners Home, we found it very private and quiet. If you want a new, trendy or spacious place to hang out for hours, this may not be your place. But if you want convenience and functionality, this is perfect.

Cute efficiency!

The cottage is a really cute space and has everything you might need for a short stay. Equipped like an efficiency apartment; stovetop, microwave, and mimic ridge. It's located directly behind the owners main floating home with parking in front (this was nice since parking is hard to come by in the city). The single complaint we had about our stay (which is why I didn't rate 4 stars) is that there was an active termite problem that hadn't been resolved. This wasn't disclosed to us after booking or prior to our stay, even though the owners admitted they were aware. There was a wardrobe that had very distinct termite tunnels all over it. Each day we found wood grains on the flooring and would have to sweep them up to walk comfortably without shoes. We ended up checking out early, just couldn't feel truly comfortable at the property with this issue. The owner obliged our refund request for the portion of the reservation not used but not without subtracting a cleaning fee and what they stated was a VRBO commission. I hope they were able to get the issue resolved or at least disclosed this the subsequent guests.

LOVED

If you’re debating whether or not to book this charming guest house, do it. Do it yesterday. There is a separate gate that leads to the back porch of the house where you’ll find the cutest guest house. The place is a decent size for two people. Everything was clean and found just as described in the listing. The kitchen is minimal but there’s enough for you to get by. The fridge space is small and does not include a freezer. No spices. When I arrived the weather was pretty hot. Inside the house was warm as well even with the fans on. Once I opened the doors a windows to allow more airflow it cooled down and I was able to sleep comfortably. The next morning the home owner was kind enough to check on me to make sure I was comfortable and asked if there was anything she could do. Most of the trip I either spent on the porch or exploring the near by trails and when I returned the house was always a comfortable temperature. This cottage in is prime location! Just outside the busyness of sf. Point Bonita is only 20min away and so worth it!! But you could honestly spend all your time at this cottage or enjoying Sausalito’s cute shops/restaurants and enjoying the beautiful bay views. I could go on forever about this place! I was so sad to leave. I will definitely be back!

Excellent Sausalito experience

Wonderful location right on, or really over (on pilings), the Sausalito waterfront. The space is plenty for two people, recently updated and clean. The kitchen is galley-sized, but quite sufficient for breakfast or if you decide to eat in. We stayed during sailing lessons at the nearby Modern Sailing school, and the location was ideal. Highly recommended, except for when we go return and call dibs.

Hidden Gem

Quant, quiet, and such a sweet little cottage . Sit on the deck and watch the birds hunt for fish, rays swim by (saw one!), and the boats out in the bay. Sweet and tranquil. Don’t pack too many items nor much food- tiny fridge but wonderful restaurants 2 minute walk away! I’ll be back.

Relaxing Comfy Getaway Amazing Views

What a great place! We loved our stay at Marion’s comfy cottage on the bay. The cottage was perfect for us. The view of the bay through the sliding glass door was beautiful with birds sea lions and boats. You can see the lights of Tiberon in the evening. The cottage is small but plenty of room for two. Nice shower fluffy towels kitchenette comfy queen bed. The location is great, walking distance to many restaurants and shops and the Ferry. Marion who lives in the house next to cottage made sure everything was good. What a nice lady. Enjoyed our talks with her. The highlight was the little table outside our bedroom overlooking the bay. We enjoyed a many glasses of wine and cheese here. Will be back.

Sitting on the dock of the bay

The property is actually one room on the deck behind an ark, not the ark itself. The location and view are spectacular. The room itself had the feel of a cheap motel. The kitchen sink leaked unless the lever was placed just right. There was a tiny mini-fridge with no freezer. There were only a few pieces of broken silverware. There was a small shower stall, but hot water was not a problem. Wifi was adequate, but the TV had only a few local channels, with no CNN or MSNBC. There was no place to conveniently plug in our devices. Unlike the VRBO listing, there was no free parking. The front door stuck and needed a lot of force to open and close. Marion, the landlord, tried to be accommodating. Still, I would stay here again, because of the great location. We discovered that Bar Bocce next door actually serves great food with a great view, and when we were there was not noisy at all, and it is open to the ocean, and felt safe COVID-wise. And Salitos is still great, and Fred's is only a short walk away.

About the host

Hosted by Marion Slater

Host profile image
I have owned the cottage for more than 40 years, it was originally a boat house owned by a captain of a fishing boat. I had always admired the property for its location on the water, when it was offered for sale I was happy to buy it, have been glad I did.

Why they chose this property

Once you see the cottage you will see what a lot it has to offer in its location, close to everything people come to Sausalito for, the lovely view, access to San Francisco and the wine country.

What makes this property unique

For guests interested in kayaking or boating in general, there could not be a better place than the San Francisco Bay. Here in Sausalito every possible type of sailing, sailboarding, boating is available. Some of the best restaurants, coffee shops and cafes nearby.
