Luxury Penthouse Apartment in the centre of Lourmarin
AJOUCADOU means “The Perch” in Provencal. The name is well suited to this house, located in the heart of the beautiful village of Lourmarin. We completely renovated the two storeys of a townhouse, above the art “Galerie du Temple”. We split it into three independent apartments with a common entrance “rue Juiverie”.
Our choice was to use noble materials such as, marble and granite, oak and teak for the joy of the eyes as well as for comfort. Le Perchoir is the top floor apartment. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms with a large open plan living area. There is also a third sleeping area suitable for children/young adults. It has an adaptable format and either one double or two single beds can be created. The living area is open plan with a kitchen, dining area, a terrace, and a sitting room/tv area. The terrace comes complete with a hammock which can be unslung for a nap or a night under the stars. The spacious and uncluttered kitchen is fully equipped. The living room and one of the bedrooms has air conditioning and heating and we thought of little enjoyable details such as: a wine cellar, an espresso machine, a dishwasher, and bathrobes, for you to spend an even nicer stay.

Really enjoyed my stay at this comfortable and cozy apartment in the heart of Lourmarin, steps from shopping, galleries and restaurants…especially love Gaby’s. Although there is no full-size oven in this unit, the kitchen is nicely equipped with an induction stovetop, microwave, large toaster oven, refrigerator and even several types of coffee makers. I especially enjoyed the private courtyard bringing lots of light and fresh air into the apartment. A great bouchère, boulangère and convenience store are all 5 minutes away. This area, Luberon, offers some great hiking, biking and numerous small villages to visit. Merci Pascal for your hospitality.
On recommande!

Great potential, but disappointing.
The apartment was well fitted out with beautiful bathhrooms, dishwasher, fridge, airconditioning and coffee machine etc, but lacked the small but basic touches found even in less expensive accommodation we have rented throughout France over the years. There were no tablets for the dishwasher, no liquid washing up detergent (and only very used and unsanitary cleaning cloths in the kitchen), no handwash in the bathrooms, no salt/pepper etc. A couple of coffee pods would have been a welcome start to our week and the promised bottle of wine was not to be seen, let alone the selection which the folder told us would be in the fridge for our purchase if required. The television did not work at all until the manager, Walter, spent some 2 hours eventually locating three French stations, but no English channels at all, very disappointing when my husband speaks no French, and surprising given that the booking was made through an English company. The result was that we were unable to watch tv throughout our stay. Several basic items were also missing from the kitchen inventory, such as sharp knives, juicer and cheese grater, items which Walter lent us during our stay.
Whilst the apartment was comfortable and well located, we would not describe it as a luxury penthouse, given the basic omissions I have outlined, and which we were obliged to purchase for daily use. These, plus the lack of television have unfortunately coloured our experience at the property which could have been so different with some practical forethought and a small financial outlay on the owner's behalf to embellish his product.

Why they chose this property
The village of Lourmarin is situated at the entrance to the valley cut into the Luberon by the Aigue Brun river. It is surrounded by fields of vines and olive trees. It’s narrow cobbled streets, are lined with fountains. Classed one of the most beautiful villages in France it is home to a Roman church, a Protestant temple and a magnificent chateau.
Lourmarin has a lively but authentic atmosphere. Restaurants and cafes are plentiful. Charming boutiques line the main street. Artists can be seen at work in their studios. The writer Henri Bosco described Lourmarin as “the most charming village in the Luberon.” Throughout it’s history it has attracted writers, from Albert Camus to Peter Mayle, with its special atmosphere.
You will not find traffic lights or paid parking spaces in Lourmarin. Everybody is able to park and then explore its pedestrian old streets. Rue de La Juiverie where the Ajoucadou apartments are located is the oldest street in the village. It is now lined by antique shops, book shops, artist studios and stylish boutiques.
The weekend in Lourmarin begins every Friday morning with one of the largest and most colourful markets in the Luberon. Almost everything is on sale from wonderful food to poterie, Provencal linen, clothes, hats and baskets. From April to the end of September either on Saturday or Sunday, or on both days, Lourmarin also hosts either an antique market or an artisan market. These markets are great opportunities to pick up unique items for the home. Most weekend evenings there is also a musical recital at the Chateau.
Lourmarin is also the perfect base from which to tour the region. Aix en Provence, Arles, Saint Remy de Provence, Les Baux de Provence and Avignon are all within easy reach. As is the seaside. Resorts such as Cassis, Bandol, and Sanary Sur Mer, are all an hour away. Closer to home the picturesque villages of the Luberon await: Grambois, Gordes, Ménerbes, Roussillon, Bonnieux, Goult, Ansouis, Cucuron, and Vaugines
