Charming Country Cottage With Large Heated Pool In Monbazillac, near Bergerac

This stone built cottage consists of a large living room with a kitchen and dining area, one bedroom and a bathroom. It is attached to our traditional Perigordine farmhouse, but still maintains its independence. Situated on a plateau at the edge of the village of Monbazillac, it is an idyllic spot to sample the pleasures that the Dordogne has to offer and is conveniently located just 7 minutes from Bergerac airport. It has a lovely heated swimming pool (13m x 6m), shared with the owners, set below a rockery and not overlooked by the main house. One can walk through vines and woodland without leaving the property. The village of Monbazillac is quiet, dominated by its 16th century chateau and famous vineyards. Ten minutes away by car is the town of Bergerac, full of shops, supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, and of course, the beautiful old town (complete with Cyrano statues) and riverside port. There are markets on most days in the bastide towns, and night markets in the summer for local outdoor eating and drinking.

Splendid

Lovely setting in a quiet spot away from the centre of Monbazillac but close enough to walk in for a glass of wine. Convenient for Bergerac airport. The owner is very helpful and naturally discrete.

A lovely home from home in perfect location

This was a wonderful place, ideal both for relaxation and from which to explore the area. The location was so peaceful and the gite had everything that we could need. We loved having the pool and Martin, Gwen and family were the perfect considerate hosts with great recommendations on local restaurants and Caves. We’d definitely love to come back again, next time bringing the car to fill up on the amazing Monbazillac wines!

Comfortable gite set in a large garden surrounded by vineyards.

A very relaxing holiday at Les Croux. The gite was well maintained and the pool and barbeque area beautiful, though sadly we weren't able to use them as much as we would have liked due to the changeable weather. Martin, the owner, was very helpful and friendly.

Relaxing and delightful retreat

My family and I - two adults and one teen - spent four lovely days at the cottage, where we were able to relax by the pool as well as spend a of couple days exploring local villages and the wider Dordogne region. Martin is a wonderful host, who despite dealing with the after math of torrential rains the night before we arrived, still greeted us with good cheer and lots of helpful information. If we are ever back in this part of France, we would happily stay here again!

Great place for peace and quiet after visiting wineries and Chateau Monbazillac. It’s larger than the photos depict and quite comfortable. The bed is soft with down pillows so sleeping can be challenging until you adjust to a more relaxed environment. The room is dark when the shutters are closed. Martin and his family are welcoming and yet allow total autonomy.

A lovely cottage with a friendly owner

The cottage was well-equipped and comfortable. It is situated in extensive grounds and the nearby swimming pool was large and heated. The location was quiet, but only about a mile from Monbazillac and within 10 minutes of both the airport and the town of Bergerac. The area boasts a huge number of vineyards, including Chateau Monbazillac, where you can have tastings and buy the famous sweet dessert wine. Martin, the owner, was an excellent host being helpful and friendly, but not intrusive.

A new favourite Gite.

We were looking for a restful holiday and this Gite provided that. The location set amidst the vines with no immediate neighbours was ideal for us. Not only did the accommodation fully met our needs but the owners got the balance of friendliness and respecting our privacy just right. In our own assessment of all the Gites we have stayed in over the years we have now found a new number one in our list and highly recommend it. We will definitely be returning.

Enjoyable week beside a vineyard

We enjoyed our time at this gite which is situated beside a vineyard and very close to a beautiful Chateu. The swimming pool is shared with the owner but we had it to ourselves the whole time we were there. We felt that some of the furnishings could do with a freshen up but there was everything there that we needed and the gite was clean when we arrived. The owner Martin was lovely and very friendly. If we needed anything he was very obliging and helpful.

Monbazillac gite

A lovely well equipped and clean gite caters for 4 persons with pull out bed and separate bedroom. Oozes rustic charm, owner Martin very pleasant and helpful with excellent knowledge of the areas in the Dordogne. If you are a keen cyclist the surrounding areas are safe to ride through stunning countryside albeit a bit hilly. Cycles provided free by Martin. Large adjacent pool with sun lounges and towels provided. Car essential due to rural position. Great location for those wishing to get away from it all.

IDYLIC GITE - PERFECT LOCATION

My husband and I have just returned from our first trip to the Dordogne and Bergerac. We stayed at Martin's gite just outside the village of Monbazillac and cannot praise it too highly. Although so close to the airport (7-8 minutes!) and to Bergerac itself we found ourselves in a beautiful location with peace and quiet guaranteed! The gite itself was perfect for us and the grounds and vinyards surrounding the beautiful Perigordian farmhouse and outbuildings are the perfect place to relax. To have the use of the beautiful pool and garden was a huge bonus. We can only add to the praise already left by others - Martin is the perfect host. Unobtrusive but friendly and very helpful when needed. A memorable stay and we have pencilled in next September for a return visit.

Autumn Stay at Les Croux

Les Croux is a compact space of Bedroom, living area and shower room, however the space is well used and the furnishings are comfortable. Being November we did not use the pool but I did relax in a chair with a book by it and it was easy to imagine what a nice place it must be in the warmer months. It was nice to find a property like this - ideal for two people but with the benefit you get with larger lets. The immediate area around Les Croux affords many choices of constitutional walks from 5 minutes to a few hours through vines and woods - the choice is yours. Martin was a superb host without being intrusive - can't ask for better than that. Would we return one day - yes but maybe in the warmer months to fully experience the poolside and share a drink with Martin - Thank you Alan Whitehouse

Gite op een prachtige locatie. Mooie wandelroutes tussen uitgestrekte wijngaarden, afgewisseld met bos en Bergerac dichtbij De gite was supercompleet. De eerste benodigdheden zoals peper, zout, olie, afwasmiddel etc.. stonden er allemaal. Verder een goed Nespresso-apparaat van Krups voor heerlijke koffie. Magnetron, oven, grote ijskast met vrieslades etc... Alles werkte goed en was netjes schoon. Het zwembad met poolhouse en aangrenzende rotstuin was een plaatje. Echt paradijs daar, ik kom er graag weer terug.

Des hôtes à notre écoute, accueillants et super réactifs à nos demandes ou questions. La maison est totalement adéquate à l' annonce proposée, dans un endroit tranquil, au milieu des vignes et forêt. Super agréable pour se retrouver au calme en famille. Le seul bémol est que la maison se trouve loin des villes mythique de la Dordogne sauf Bergerac qui est à 10 minutes. Nous recommandons ce logement les yeux fermés et encore merci à Martin et Gwendoline pour notre accueil.

10 tage Urlaub / 10 day stay

wir waren 10 Tage bei Martin zu Gast und wurden herzlich empfangen. Er war immer da wenn er gebraucht wurde und sonst unaufdringlich und hilfsbereit und freundlich. Ein guter Gastgeber. Die Unterkunft war geräumig, bequem, sauber und mit allem erdenklichen ausgerüstet. Das Grundstück ist riesig und in einer wunderbaren, ruhigen Lage inmitten von Weinbergen mit einem beheizten Schwimmbad. Viele historische Sehenswürdigkeiten sind in einem Tagesausflug zu erreichen. Wir würden jederzeit wieder hier Urlaub machen. It may look like all the reviews are top notch but the reason is that there are very few places that deserve it , this little heaven is really all that you could wish for to rent for your holiday and deserved every star, it was a great stay , a great base from which to explore and a great host that give you alot of freedom on and around his property.

Why they chose this property

The Dordogne area is already renowned for its gastronomic delights, especially the wine! We chose our house for its unique location - very close to Bergerac and its facilities, but at the same time completely secluded from neighbouring properties and roads.

What makes this property unique

We are perched on the Monbazillac plateau, hidden among our own vines. The most frequent comment we get from guests is the feeling of space all around the property. The pool is hidden from the main house and the gite, with a view over meadows leading to woods and vines.
