About this property
detached Village House near historic spa town, own pool, WiFi, 40 mins from beach
Four storey late 19th century village stone house with own swimming pool over, c.400 sq.m, five double bedrooms, two bathrooms 3 x /wc. Fully restored with white-washed walls, original terracotta floors and exposed chestnut beams. Large courtyards and full width new decking to lounge around the pool with incredible views. Lots of space for outdoor eating and chilling. Straight out the top gate for hillside paths leading to ancient villages. Ideal for mountain biking and hiking, or just a leisurely stroll. Well stocked Village shop just five minutes up the path.
Thick stone walls mean it’s cool in the height of summer. The village is a typical Italian hillside community, mostly quiet, but passing goatherds, farming as well as the usual hubbub of Italian village life. It’s also a very safe and welcoming environment and our guests don’t feel they have to be too precious, (especially good if you have younger kids). After nightfall the village is totally silent, devoid of light pollution so ideal for star-gazing and chasing fire-flies.
Area has loads of things to do: canoeing; white-water rafting; horse-riding; the Beach; zip-wires; factory-outlet shopping; wine-tours and tastings; beautiful historic towns like Lucca, Barga, Pisa, Florence, Montecarlo, Forti di Marmi, etc.

About the host
Hosted by peter antenen

Professional couple with two grown up daughters and faithful hound, based just outside London in the UK. Globally well-travelled, especially across Europe, been holidaying (and working) in Italy for three decades. The owners use the house year-round outside guest rental periods. Eldest daughter held her wedding reception over two days at the house.
Why they chose this property
We spent ten years looking all over Italy and eventually found and fell in love with this beautiful, unspoilt corner of Tuscany. Hot, but not too hot, real scenery, lovely people, loads to see and do, great little hilltop towns, high, interesting and green countryside, skiing nearby….
Lots of Content and a variety of things to do for all the family and mixed groups:
1.Long al fresco lunches in the courtyard
2.Swimming in the pool then sunbathing all day on the decking
3.The evening passagiata through the village squares and lanes (especially if it’s just rained! – very ‘Name of the Rose’)
4.A long day out in Firenze, with shopping at the Barberino outlet mall.
5.The Sunday antiques market in Lucca.
6.Touring through the nearby Garfagnana valley.
7.Barga for dinner, followed by passagiata and gelati!
