Escape to Swallows Cottage, your own peaceful countryside retreat just two miles from the beautiful market town of Ashbourne, often called the gateway to the Peak District.

Hidden away at the end of a private lane and surrounded by five acres of private gardens and orchards, there's plenty of space to wander, relax with a morning coffee, play with the children, or simply enjoy the peace and wildlife.

One of the things that makes Swallows Cottage truly special is its private heated outdoor swimming pool (available June, July and August). Private heated outdoor pools are exceptionally rare in the Peak District, making this a real treat after a day's walking or sightseeing.

Inside, you'll find a welcoming blend of character and comfort. Cook together in the spacious country kitchen, curl up beside the cosy wood-burning stove, sleep soundly in the antique four-poster bed, and enjoy the luxury of a modern bathroom with underfloor heating. Fast fibre broadband means you can stay connected if you need to—but we think you'll be too busy unwinding.

Step out of the back door and follow footpaths to the picture-perfect village of Tissington, or spend your days exploring some of Derbyshire's best-loved attractions, including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Dovedale and Alton Towers. After a day out, return to Swallows Cottage to enjoy a barbecue, a swim, or simply watch the sun set over the gardens with a glass of wine.

Our host was very accommodating and allowed us to stay with two dogs. The cottage was really well equipped and thoughtfully furnished. We were warmly welcomed and thought the hamper was a fantastic surprise. Our human family had a fantastic time in the pool and the canine members enjoyed the gardens and local area. We would definitely stay again! It was a relaxing and easy process from start to finish. I highly recommend a visit.

Wonderful Cottage in a Beautiful Setting

We had a wonderful stay in the cottage. It was equipped with everything we needed and set in beautiful gardens. The kids loved the table tennis, badminton and heated pool. Izzy and Simon were fantastic hosts and we highly recommend this cottage. The location was fabulous with so much to explore all around.

Perfect short get away

Simon and I bought The Priory, Swallows Cottage and The Old Engine house in 2009. Since then we have renovated The Priory and Swallow's Cottage to ensure maximum comfort - whether it be beds, heating or endless hot water. Our landscape gardener has developed the grounds, especially around the swimming pool, sympathetically and with great detail. Our three children are often away and we relish the chance to look after our Swallows Cottage guests and love introducing them to our special Derbyshire "finds". We love being in such a peaceful spot but are endlessly grateful that we are just such a short distance from Ashbourne.

Why they chose this property

Having lived in a local village (some 6 miles from Asbourne), very happily, for 10 years, we were thrilled to find the combination of rural peace but without being miles from civilization - with Ashbourne just 2 miles away we can easily whizz in for milk, papers and take-aways without feeling that we are in a built-up area. An added bonus is that we can walk by footpath, directly from the front door to Tissington and beyond.

What makes this property unique

When we bought the property we were advised by many friends not to put a pool in - how glad we are now that we ignored their advice! This Summer has been glorious - Derbyshire at its very best. Breakfasting by the pool on a quiet Summer's morning can't be beaten.
