We enjoyed Porthleven and touring around Cornwall, including Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan. The house was very comfortable and provided all we needed.

This was our second stay at the cottage and it was again perfect for us (2 adults, 2 children) to head out to discover Porthleven and Cornwall. The house is very clean, is well equipped and nicely furnished and decorated. The beds are very comfortable and parking on the street not far from the cottage was always possible.

Island House is a lovely property. Clean and within walking distance of shops and restaurants but also convenient for visiting the surrounding countryside. We will certainly be arranging to stay here again. We would thoroughly recommend a stay here.
Island House was the perfect place to stay in beautiful Porthleven. The hosts were communicative and considerate, and have equipped the cottage with everything needed for a comfortable stay. The cottage itself was immaculate and beautifully decorated. Thanks for a wonderful stay 😊

Great location just a short stroll down to the harbour where there is a lot going on and many excellent places to eat. The lovely beach is just a short stroll past the harbour. The property was a characterful cottage that had been tastefully modernised and had everything we needed for the four of us. We certainly will stay here again.

Island House is perfectly located in the centre of Porthleven. Very comfortable and nicely decorated. It was an ideal base for a walking holiday. Excellent restaurants, pubs and a micro-brewery within walking distance. Will certainly return and would highly recommend to others. The host, James, could not have been more helpful.

Island House is ideally located just a few minutes, walk from The Harbour, Beach, Shops and Restaurants its all there without needing to get in the car.

Excellent contact with owner/host.
Great location, 2 min walk into town.
Parking was easy, even in July, there was room very near the property for free parking. But even if there isn't, you can park for £6 a day nearby.
Spotlessly clean house.
Comfortable furniture/beds etc and well equipped kitchen. Good shower. Note the bathroom is downstairs.
Nice, small garden to sit in.

After over eight years my twenty something son and I finally managed to have a two week holiday together and stayed at Island House in Porthleven. What a fantastic place and location we were fortunate to stay in and it exceeded all expectations and was without doubt our best ever holiday! The precious time we spent together was 'perfect' in every way. Thank you for everything! Robert Taylor

We’ve just returned from a weeks stay at Island House (myself, husband and 19 yr old son)
The house is perfectly appointed and really cosy, especially with the log burner which was so lovely when the weather was wet outside! It’s located in a lovely quiet area yet just seconds and minutes away from cafes and restaurants. Unlike some Cornish resort villages, Porthleven does not have a Cramped feel ( if that makes sense!) all the shops and restaurants are based in a semi circle around the harbour area. So even though it may be quite busy, you can always find a quiet spot. Portleven beach and harbour are lovely, but for swimming the lovely Praa sands is a 10 minute drive. We also visited Porthcurno beach which is beautiful. An evening performance at the minack theatre was a great experience, but very windy and cold. Even in early September dress very warmly and bring blankets!
The best thing about island house, is that you can quite happily spend a day in Porthleven, wandering around the various shops and eateries, sit on the beach and watch the waves etc… yet if it rains or you just fancy going back to base you’re re only few minutes walk from the cottage….Light a fire, cosy up and get a takeout from the restaurant, literally across the street! So basically you don’t need to take the car out and travel to keep occupied, it’s all there in Porthleven! Thank you so much to the host and for leaving a lovely welcome pack! We would love to return 👍😊

Hi Sinead,
Thank you so much for your great review, very informative for other guests, with your recommendations of places to visit and things to do.
We would love you to visit again.
Thanks once again, James & Sally

Thank you very much for your review, and glad you made use of the garden to eat your breakfast delights from the deli!

Hi I am James, married to Sally, we have three grown up children and one grandchild. We bought Island House in 2012 and then spent the next nine months renovating it, it had been in the same family ownership for over 100 years. We have tried to blend old with new, retaining character features such as the beamed ceilings and the granite lintle above the fire place, but adding all the 'creature comforts' you would expect in the 21st century. We have decorated and renewed many items and soft furnishings for 2017 season. We live in Devon, but I was brought up in Cornwall and went to school in Helston. Knowing the area fairly well Porthleven was where we wanted to be and when Island House came up for auction we were there, not for one minute expecting the hammer to go down on my bid! We love going to Island House, visiting as often as possible, and we hope you will like it as much we do.
Why they chose this property
Porthleven has everything, you can eat out somewhere different every night, and you will not be disappointed. Loe Bar and The Penrose estate are fantastic places to walk or cycle, or go in the other direction towards Penzance, the dramatic cliffs and abandoned engine houses remind you of the regions rich history and mining past.
What makes this property unique
Island House is close to the centre of Porthleven, so everything is within a five minute walk, it is virtually detached (just joined to the neighbouring property by it's utility room which is a later addition) this is unusual as the vast majority of the cottages in the conservation area are terraced, with unusal rights of way, shared rear yards and fronting the street. This is not the case with Island House where you open the gate onto your own sunny garden, which is made up of a terrace with table, chairs and parasol, and raised beds with a variety of flowering and sub tropical plants, there are also glimpses of the inner harbour, a path leads to the front door and around the corner to the utility room.
