Sandy Lane Farm is a beautifully appointed historical property nestled in the privacy of 35 acres, and was previously run as a wedding venue.
Lovingly restored over 4 years, the house features soaring 12 foot ceilings with historic crown mouldings and original stained glass windows.
A gourmet kitchen with table that seats 12 awaits you, along with a parlour with punched tin ceiling and a wood stove to relax and watch TV, and a separate reading/library room. The farm has wrap around porches in both the front and the back of the house, with gorgeous views to the barn and fields, and a screened in porch off the kitchen for eating, games, or just relaxing.
It features a second floor where there are three bedrooms. The Lanktree room features an exposed brick wall and a Queen bed. The Willow Room looks over the willow tree with a Queen bed and ensuite bathroom with shower and claw foot tub. The Strawberry Patch room has views over the fields with two single beds.
The third floor features a magnificent private master suite of 600 square feet, with a king bed, fireplace, balcony overlooking the front gardens and adjoining ensuite bathroom.
For the ultimate in privacy, there is a bunkie behind the barn with a Queen bed, sink and dresser where you can enjoy a lovely view of the river and the evening breezes
There is central air conditioning for your comfort.
There are hammocks and sitting areas throughout the gardens and property where one can relax and take in the best of nature
Finally, one of the unique hi-lights of our property: There is a 2 storey 1200 square foot historic barn overlooking the Saugeen River. This fabulous indoor area has a a lounge area, a dining area and a games area, including a ping pong table and bar....perfect for a unique evening dinner with family, and/or to relax and play cards or games. AND there is a Pickle Ball Court with racquets and balls supplied
If you are a nature lover, this is a perfect place for you. There are bike and walking trails throughout the 35 acres with stunning views of the Saugeen, and a trail that goes down to the river.

Absolutely perfect
We just loved the week we spent here. The home is beautiful - lots of room, comfortably furnished and equipped with everything we needed. The property is lovely - it has beautiful trails, and we saw deer and wild turkeys. Our dogs were in heaven. I especially loved all the different places we could sit outside - there were chairs and tables in a number of different locations. It is perfect for a group of people who want to travel together but also want some time alone. There are also great walking trails through the woods located nearby. Southampton is a 5 minute drive and is a charming town with nice shops., including an excellent bakery, meat and cheese store and olive oil shop. Heather was absolutely wonderful to deal with throughout - she was so warm and helpful and gave us lots of good information about what to see and where to go. We were very sad to leave.

About the host

We fell in love with Southampton and this property in 2001, and took 4 years to lovingly restore this house, (and its barn) which was the first farmhouse in Southampton, to its original glory. We were awarded a historical plaque from the town which we proudly display on the front of the house.

Why they chose this property

Staying at Sandy Lane gives guests gives the ultimate in privacy while providing numerous outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, swimming and kayaking all within the confines of the property. Complete your day with a family meal in the restored Barn and then enjoy a campfire.
As an added bonus, you are only minutes away from Southampton, with its restaurants, shops, beaches, golf courses and tennis club and world famous sunsets.

What makes this property unique

The farmhouse will make you feel like you are going back in time, as the original elements of the home have been restored. The farm and property had everything that we wanted; proximity to town but with the ultimate in privacy. The property is a haven for wildlife, and you will see deer, wild turkeys and birds on a regular basis
The peacefulness and tranquility of this setting is truly amazing.
