This house is an absolute gem! Do not let the affordable price of John's Crab Shack fool you! Nestled on a wooded corner lot, this four-bedroom home is just a quick five-minute scenic walk (paved sidewalk) to the beach. Guests do not have to cross over the busy street of Oak Island Drive to get to the beach like similar homes in this price range. With two living rooms both equipped with TVs, separate dining room and fenced in backyard, John's Crab Shack's owners have lovingly decorated with your perfect family vacation in mind!

John's Crab Shack is waiting to help you create a relaxing vacation full of cherished memories. Enjoy yourself under the shady oaks of the fenced-in backyard. Load up the beach cart and stroll over the tidal creek to the beautiful beach or try your hand at surf fishing. Wash the sand from your feet in the private hot and cold outdoor shower. Put an umbrella in your drink and grab a book as you relax on the backyard deck. Whip up a gourmet meal in the well-stocked kitchen or grill out on the back-yard deck. For a rainy day, John's Crab Shack comes equipped with plenty of games, puzzles, and books to keep the whole family entertained. If that is not enough, then take a short drive to historic Southport to visit museums, art galleries, historic homes and then dine in one of Southport's many excellent restaurant . For day trips, historic downtown Wilmington is only 40 minutes, Myrtle Beach is an easy 1 hour drive or take a scenic ferry ride to exclusive Bald Head Island. There is also a convenience store just one block away on the way to the beach. A public floating dock 5 streets away and a public fishing dock 6 streets away.

With plenty of room to spread out or get together for a family dinner, John's Crab Shack is truly a great family vacation home. The beaches of Oak Island are waiting for you. - Dog fee is $25 per night so please indicate if you are bringing a dog🐾

Very relaxing stay

We had a great stay at John’s Crab Shack! We found the home to be clean and comfortable with everything we needed. The home is older but felt like home so this was not a problem for us. The fenced back yard was great for our dog. We also loved the outdoor shower on the back deck. The neighborhood is quiet and the trees and greenery made the home feel private to us. We would stay here again!

Great stay with easy beach access.

Our family of 4 stayed at Johns Crab Shack for the week and enjoyed our Oak Island vacation. 8-minute walk to beach door to dune. 2 minute bike ride to the beach.The house is well-stocked both in kitchen supplies, games, linens, towels, and also beach needs: wagon, bikes (we used 2), shibumi shade, etc. The ping pong table was a hit with our kids. We did not take advantage of the kayaks provided (2 adult and one child).OKI is very laid back and was a nice experience. Recommend a day trip to Southport and Wilmington.

Relaxing, pup friendly get away close to the beach

This was our 4th time staying at the Crab Shack so you can tell we love it! Kitchen has everything we need to cooking local seafood and the patio with the fenced backyard is great for hanging out with the pup.

Nice relaxing getaway

Nice place on a quiet street, walking distance to the beach. The house had everything we needed. We appreciated the fenced in back yard for the dogs. The host was very responsive and kind. I would recommend!

We loved it. There were 5 adults and a 6 year old.

We loved the house and location. There is a great deal of space and we were able to grill outside one evening. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with necessities. The neighborhood was quiet and the next door neighbor was friendly and gave us tips on where to fish.

A beautiful week at the Crab Shack

Each year, there are more thoughtful amenities. This year's shibumi was an absolute joy - weighs next to nothing, takes minutes to put up, and allowed us to enjoy many more hours of the beach. The house is a comfortable, home-away-from-home for us.

Reminds me of...

This house reminds me of the place I spent summers as a kid on Long Beach Island before it was decimated by wealthy developers. So good to know there are still comfy lived-in places to stay, rather than the sterile McMansions with no beach cottage feel. My dogs loved hanging out on the back deck, and we all loved hanging out on the beach! Bicycles and kayaks are available to use, along with other beach gear! I was a solo traveler, but this house would be great for families and kids!

Renamed this sweet place to "John's Sugar Shack"!

30 days of endless bliss in the Winter at this location will refresh and renew your spirits like it did ours. Very safe location with wonderful neighbors, and 10 Minute walk to ocean make this the perfect spot to be. Sparkling clean on the inside this enchanting home and very comfortable rooms to eat, sleep, relax and enjoy life .... A huge plus is of course the fenced in back yard for the Puppy. This "Puppy' is a certified Therapy Dog and had his vacation from visiting patients in Hospital and got a well deserved "break"! There is NOTHING I can think of that could be improved, for us everything was First-Class, and we hope to return next Winter, God willing! Last not least, since we are "very retired~ fixed income " guests we had to shop for the OKI cottage by price, and this sweet place was very fair and affordable! Thank you again Mr. Homeowner!

We always come back!!

This was probably our 5th time staying at Johns Crab Shack. It is a much loved home that could use some maintenance and deep cleaning, but that's neither here nor there, because we didn't vacation to the beach to critique a house; we went to enjoy family, friends, the beach and restaurants. This home has LOTS of room. We always put together a large puzzle on the dining room table and/or play games. Adults can hang in one living room, teens hang in the other. New for this year was a Shibumi shade. And having the beach wagon made for a very easy walk to the beach. I wish we had more time so that we could have used the kayaks. If you like to read, there are tons of books to choose from. And room fans for white noise. Yes!! The owner left us a vase of beautiful home grown flowers upon our arrival. Charcoal too. We had everything we needed to have a cookout and other dinners and breakfasts (except for a scrubbing pad, but the Dollar General remedied that.) The washer does have a crack in the glass, thus a small leak when in use, but we simply put a hand towel down, and all was well. It is wonderful that we could bring our pups with the fenced yard. And the next door neighbor, Ken, is very nice. Love the outdoor shower! We will definitely return to John's Crab Shack because of the convenience of the walk to the beach, and everything else in OKI, the comfort, and the roominess. And more so, communication with the owner. Very responsive and nice to work with.

Surrounded by a green canopy of trees, it's hard to believe our house is just steps from the sand and water. Unlike other homes closer to the beach, our house has a user friendly fenced in yard instead of just sand and concrete. :)
