Characterful and Spacious 2 Bedroom Gite, Sleeps 4 with Dedicated Pool

Our newly refurbished gite has been named "La Coquille" to denote the scallop shell above the front door, said to announce the fact that is was a resting place for pilgrims en route to Santiago de Compostella.

La Coquille gite is situated in a peaceful location at the end of a small lane on the edge of the forest and if you are lucky you will be able to watch deer from the terrace early morning or at dusk.

Its location makes it safe for kids but as it is not part of a complex, it makes an excellent retreat for couples.

The popular village of Aubeterre Sur Dronne (voted as one of the prettiest villages in France) is just 3.5 miles away and it boasts its own river beach and golf club. There are lots of delicious restaurants in the centre to choose from, along with the charming small shops and a local market on a Sunday morning.

La Coquille is also ideally situated for you to explore the Charente, the Dordogne, the Atlantic coast and the vineyards of St Emillion and Bordeaux.

La coquille offers you a safe peaceful spot to recharge your batteries and explore the local area.

It is a restored cottage, thought to date back to the 1700's and still retains many original features.

There is a large sitting room with large limestone fireplace and original sink. It has comfy sofas and English satellite TV.

This leads to the fully fitted kitchen, which includes oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. There is also dining space.

The door leads to the shady terrace, with space for al fresco dining.

From the sitting room, you pass through the formal dining room up the stairs and on the first floor there is a twin room, a family bathroom and an en-suite double bedroom.

Very nice house and region

A charismatic house with a nice well maintained pool. In a quiet environment with a very nice view. Friendly and dedicated hosts always ready for an advice but discrete.

Tranquil retreat in the beautiful Charente countryside

Superbly set out gite with lots of living space. Huge grounds with lots of shady areas- perfect to play outside but stay cool for our toddler. Large bedrooms and bathrooms, and all the basic kitchen equipment supplied. The stunning village of Aubeterre is a must and perfect for lunches. Lovely river beaches! Peter and Lesley are warm and welcoming without intruding on our space. Definitely recommend

Lovely house, stunning location!

After a lovely stay at La Coquille for 10 nights, we didn't want to leave! Picturesque views and a peaceful location surrounded by sunflowers and an abundance of villages and towns to explore, there is always something to do! The pool was a saving grace in the very hot weather we experienced whilst staying in France. The house is very spacious, there's a lot more room than you think! The hosts, Peter and Lesley, were fantastic! Nothing was too much trouble and we felt very welcome, with local supermarket recommendations and tourist attractions provided for our arrival. This was just what we needed after travelling 490 miles from Calais, driving in France for the first time! Overall, this was the perfect holiday for us, there is nothing we would change about it!

Petit coin au milieu de nulle part tres sympathique ! La piscine est un grand plus en cette periode caniculaire.Attention à tous ceux qui arrivent à la coquille avec Maps presque à l arrivee on vous indique un "chelin blanc" ne le prenez surtout pas sauf si vous avez un 4/4 ! Mon bas de caisse s'en souvient encore...Lesley et son mari sont charmants et d'une discrétion absolue !

Ons verblijf was ok, we zaten zeer rustig, eigenlijk tamelijk ver verwijderd van de bewoonde wereld zodat een auto eigenlijk nodig is om de basis aankopen te doen.De keuken faciliteiten waren in orde maar basic.

Séjour réussi dans cette belle maison bien située pour visiter cette belle région.

Superbe séjour dans une très belle maison typique rénovée avec goût, propreté impécable et très bien équipée. Avec une grande piscine privée et un vue panoramique sur la belle campagne de la région. Trés bien située pour visité des plus beaux villages de France et des châteaux. Que demander de plus ? des propriétaires très sympathiques, attentionnés et discrets. Je recommande vivement cette location! Nous reviendrons certainement.

Maison pillac

Cet endroit est tout simplement exceptionnel, que ce soit le chemin qui mène à la maison et la vue derrière est un ode à la nature, superbe je pense que je retournerai à cette maison en particulier, Les environs avec riberac , Aubeterre sur Dronne vous depayseront et cerise sur le gâteau nous avons croisé plein d'animaux sauvages Aux alentours de la maison, biche, lièvre blaireau à 5 mètres de nous ! Je conseille Aux personnes de rouler prudemment, je recommande fortement ce Bel endroit

Mi familia y yo hemos estado una semana en La Coquille. Ha sido nuestra primera visita a la zona y ha sido fantástica. La casa es muy bonita y cómoda. Hemos tenido la suerte de poder disfrutar de la piscina todos los días, y de poder ver unos fantásticos atardeceres estirados en las hamacas. Incluso vimos un pequeño cervatillo! También hemos podido visitar muchos pueblos preciosos. Estamos muy contentos de poder haber disfrutado de esta semana de relax. Recomendamos La Coquille.

Nous avons été très bien accueilli par les propriétaires. Très discret durant notre séjour. Présent pour toutes questions ! Hygiène irréprochable, l'intérieur est très spacieux. Petite terrasse ombragée à partir de midi. Une vue très agréable sur les champs de tournesols où nous pouvions apercevoir les chevreuils matins et soirs à notre plus grand bonheur ! Location très calme, piscine nettoyée régulièrement par le propriétaire. Les commerces se trouvent à 15min en voitures. Nous recommandons ce gîte !

Séjour au calme

Nous avons été très bien accueillis dès notre arrivée ! La maison est vraiment très chouette entouré de champs sans aucun bruit autour. Un séjour au calme très agréable. Les propriétaires sont disponibles si besoin et il y a un guide de la région : activités, marchés etc... Nous recommandons avec plaisir ^^

Un logement qui tient ses promesses

Le logement est calme, équipé de tout ce qu’il faut. La tranquillité et la sérénité sont au rendez-vous ! Les propriétaires très discrets sont tout à fait disposés à aider en cas de besoin. Un séjour reposant qui nous a permis de nous ressourcer au mieux !

Calme et décompression à la campagne

C'est bien la tranquillité qui règne dans le joli gite de Lesley et John. Entre la piscine, la petite terrasse et les beaux volumes de ce corps de ferme rénové, vous passerez un très agréable séjour. Les hôtes sont d'une discrétion absolue mais disponibles si besoin. La région est magnifique et réserve plein de surprises mais les commerces sont au moins à 10 min de route. Si vous êtes une famille de 4 et que vous recherchez un endroit paisible tout en profitant des joies d'une piscine, vous êtes au bon endroit.

Location décevante

Logement qui sentait fort l'humidité, La cuisine n'était pas équipée pour cuisiner et la vaisselle n'était pas propre. La télévision était en anglais uniquement. L escalier très dangereux. Logement loin de tout. Et tout cela a un prix beaucoup trop élevé. Je ne le recommande pas.

Nous étions désolés que vous soyez insatisfait. Étant donné que nous vivons juste à côté, nous aurions pu résoudre bon nombre des problèmes si vous nous en aviez parlé. Le gîte est présenté comme tranquille et à la campagne. Un des meilleurs arguments de vente et pourquoi tant de nos clients l’aiment tellement! Malheureusement, nous ne pouvons pas accéder à la télévision française car nous sommes dans une vallée. Nous avons essayé.

We were both totally disenchanted with life in the UK and in 2007 decided it was "now or never".
We fell in love with the spot and decided to buy without hesitation but the the crash happened and we had to wait until 2010 to sell our house in the UK.
It is fair to say the property needed some TLC but we are all but there now and can concentrate a little more on our day jobs and relaxing with our cats!

Why they chose this property

The property sits along a quiet country lane and is nestled in a small valley on the edge of the forest - it is so peaceful but not far from the lively village of Aubeterre-Sur-Dronne.
The gite has been newly refurbished but still retains its original charm and offers comfort and space for all the family but would equally suit a couple as it is not part of a complex.

What makes this property unique

The views from the rear of the property are far-reaching and change every day so you never get tired of sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine!
We see deer and birds of prey on a very regular basis and love the peace and quiet of being at the end of our own little lane.
