About this property

COTTAGE ON THE CREEK VACATION RENTAL. Sleeps 4. Beautiful views. Riverside deck. Fishing.

PRIVATE, WHOLE-HOUSE VACATION RENTAL. 2 BEDROOMS/2 BATHS. The most recent addition to the guest accommodations on the Arbor House property is the Cottage on the Creek--the perfect accommodation choice for a couple, a small family, or two couples vacationing together. Situated on a beautifully maintained, three-acre property, it is bounded on the east and west by stately stone cliffs and has amazing river, forest and mountain views in the background. This mountain cottage is approximately 1350 sq. ft. of pure and peaceful riverside relaxation. The Cottage interior is beautifully decorated in a simple and casual mountain style with a spacious living area featuring comfortable seating and plenty of room to relax, watch TV, read, do puzzles or play games. Internet is a must, and it's high-speed wireless. The adjoining dining area is flooded throughout the day with beautiful, natural light and has amazing views out each window. Fully equipped kitchen comes with large and small appliances, pots & pans, cooking utensils, dishes, and glassware, etc. The laundry room, adjacent to the kitchen, has a full-size washer and dryer, ironing board, iron, and storage area for extra outdoor/ski gear, etc. The Cottage does an absolutely wonderful job of providing all the comforts of home, enabling guests to just settle on in or get out and get busy having fun. The large, romantic master bedroom features a king bed, private bath, comfortable seating area for two, gorgeous riverside views and streaming TV. The smaller, second bedroom has a comfy queen bed with full bath across the hall. Special touches of fluffy robes and complimentary bedside chocolates whisper a quiet "Sleep Well" to nightly bedroom guests. Outdoors, the above-river deck provides a perfect spot for breakfast al fresco in the warm, morning sun or for an evening respite of wine and cheese while watching the fish rise--perfect and peaceful in every way. Perhaps a juicy steak or maybe burgers on the grill is the order of the day, but whatever's on the menu, it's always better on the river. And may we add that the nighttime stargazing is, well, AMAZING! For guests needing wheelchair accessibility, the Cottage features a winding ramp up to the covered front porch entrance (as well as traditional steps), and all rooms and back deck are on one level--no interior stairs. The master bed/bath has 36" doors; large, walk-in shower with both standard and hand-held shower heads along with safety grab bars in the shower and at the toilet. Shower stool available on request. Riverside deck is accessed through the dining room sliding door, and just down the back stairs from the deck to the river is a private, aspen-shaded seating area with fire pit and picnic table. A lazy porch swing under an old river trolly and sparkling party lights complete the relaxing, riverside experience. Cottage guests are welcome to take advantage of the property's 480+ ft., private, on-site river access and enjoy some fishing in the Arbor House Inn's private portion of the South Fork of the Rio Grande. Catch and release as requested the the fish! Our goal here at the Cottage is to be the perfect choice of vacation accommodations for those few, very special guests desiring a private, peaceful and relaxing Colorado mountain getaway. **** As the Cottage is a separate facility from the main Arbor House Inn, GUEST PRIVILEGS DO NOT INCLUDE BREAKFAST SERVICE OR USE OF THE INN'S HOT TUB. Rates vary seasonally. DAMAGE INSURANCE is required as well as an ADDITIONAL CLEANING FEE of $125 for each Cottage reservation. FULL RESERVATION (nights, cleaning fee and damage insurance) IS CHARGED AT TIME OF BOOKING. Children are welcome. PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED. TWO-NIGHT MINIMUM. Minimum age for main renter is 25.****

About the host

Hosted by Laurie & Keith Bratton

Host profile image
Keith and Laurie Bratton, owners of Cottage on the Creek and the adjacent bed and breakfast property, have their family roots in the San Luis Valley, specifically Del Norte and Monte Vista. Grandparents homesteaded just up valley from The Cottage on the historic Million Ranch, so there are strong sentimental ties to South Fork and the surrounding area. They added the 2-bedroom cottage to their B&B property in 2016 as a way for guests to enjoy privacy by river under the cliffs and have been booked ever since.

Why they chose this property

Coming back to the San Luis Valley after being away for over 30 years, we chose the South Fork area in general and the property in particular because of its beautiful location. At the time of purchase, there was an existing house and a few outbuildings on three riverside acres with everything in need of great attention. Repaired, remodeled and redecorated, we opened a beautiful bed and breakfast facility in 2001 and have happily hosted countless guests in the years since. The house featured here on Vrbo and now known as the Cottage on the Creek was built in 2007 as a private home and converted to a vacation accommodation in 2016 and has been making fisherman happy ever since. Upscale and intimate, it is designed to comfortably host small parties only--one or two couples or perhaps a small family. Combined, the main inn and the Cottage on the Creek can accommodate up to 14 guests.

What makes this property unique

We love to share with our guests the experience of waking up to the sun peeking over the cliffs, the freshness of the crisp, mountain air, and the wake-up calls of the birds on the river -- a perfect way to start the day. And, as the perfect ending, we recommend relaxing around the glowing embers of a dying fire and toasting up a few sweet s'mores. As darkness falls, the silent show in the night sky is not to be missed. The star gazing is, well . . . AMAZING!
