Surrounded by stunning views, Papillon accommodates up to 5 guests with a beautiful shared heated pool and is set within 9 acres of grounds including pastureland and it's own woodland, which includes a Zip Wire ride within the trees that is surrounded by beautiful countryside. A light and spacious barn conversion has original oak beams and exposed stone walls with fire place and woodburner. Perfect for a romantic retreat or family holiday. Papillon is ideally situated if you are interested in walking, cycling, canoeing, historical architecture or wandering around the many local markets or if you just want to unwind, relax or play in the lovely heated pool . We also have many outdoor games to occupy the children such as

The open plan living space with vaulted ceiling and original beams contains a fitted kitchen together with dining table and comfortable lounge area with wood burning stove. Kitchen appliances include washing machine, gas stove, microwave, fridge/freezer, kettle , toaster , coffee machine.
UK & French Satellite TV .
The master bedroom has double height ceilings with exposed wooden beams and period furniture. The 2nd bedroom with 2 single beds . There is also a mezzanine area with additional single bed.
The shower room is fully tiled with walk in power shower.
Stairs from the living area lead to the private rear garden / patio mainly lawned with mature trees.
The 5 x 10 heated pool and sauna is shared with another 4 bedroom house but there is plenty of space and sun loungers. Parasols also provided.
All linen and towels provided.
Papillon has a lot to offer whether planning an active holiday or whether you just want to soak up the peaceful atmosphere here while relaxing by the lovely heated pool or explore the many activities in the area. It's a great location for family, friends or couples alike.
We only accept Saturday to Saturday bookings during July / Aug

This is the most relaxing tranquil holiday we have ever been on, my only regret is we didn’t find it sooner. A beautiful setting surrounded by animals and nature. Plenty to do for the kids and adults relaxing by the pool or walks. Lots of tourist attractions within an hours drive. We 100% recommend this cottage, location and host.

Lovely gite, welcoming host. We loved the location, and made use of the fabulous pool. The gite itself has everything you need and my son loved playing with the dogs. We would stay again.

Lovely property, secluded and in a beautiful environment,

We had a great start of our holidays here. Enjoying the lovely environment and relaxing at the pool gave us a a well deserved rest. You can easily explore the countryside and surroundig villages like Brantome, Riberac and Perigeux. Liz and Craig were very friendly hosts and gave us good suggestions for things to do and restaurants to go to.

Perfect tranquility !

If you are looking for peace and tranquility, this little cottage has everything you need for a wonderful holiday - the photos do not do it justice. Papillon is perfect for a couple - but also has a good sized 2nd (twin ) bedroom and single mezzanine - allowing sleeping for up to 5. It is adequately equipped with the benefit of UK TV and good WiFi The pool is fabulous and the views breathtaking! Craig and Lizette are wonderful hosts and always on hand to recommend restaurants , places to go etc - always helpful when you’re not familiar with an area. We had the most wonderful time; would love to return . We recommend without hesitation.

Getting away from it all

Nicely converted old farm building, 2 spacious bedrooms for 4 people, with additional single bedroom in mezzanine area (although access is a bit tricky - v narrow steep stairs). Sufficiently equipped kitchen area, despite being a bit small. Lizette is a friendly and welcoming host with many recommendations for visiting the area and eating out. Very pleasant, good-size pool shared with next-door holiday rental, along with other fantastic facilities for all the family : pingpong, badminton, pool table, trampoline and zipwire. Made the most of all this and also enjoyed visiting the area - Brantome, Perigueux, Grotte de Villars, Bourdeilles, Etang de la Jemaye ... you do have to travel quite a bit as local amenities are limited although we highly recommend the bakery in Montagrier @ 5 Km. Animal-lovers can also appreciate the company of the dogs, cats and horses. Thanks for everything, Lizette and Craig

great service provided, quality accomodation and a wonderful place to stay

We booked the accommodation quite late, having tried to book a couple of other places a bit further south and then having to wait almost a whole day for e-mail replies. This however was different Lizette the owner replied back in 30 mins confirming booking request and provided contact details for any queries. We arrived at the property on the Saturday and she was on hand straight away to welcome us, explain how everything worked, talked through all the facilities etc. The property itself was clean, well maintained, and even better than the description on the website! The 2 bedrooms were much bigger than they looked online and were well furnished with loads of hangers (not always the case) the kitchen / lounge /diner was well laid out, a flat screen TV, DVD player and CD system were all provided. The mezzanine bedroom (off the lounge) would be great for a small child, although our 10 year olds used it as a reading room! and the private garden was larger than it looked in the pictures, at the rear of the property so nice and quiet with views over neighbouring fields. Also as the house was built into a slope parts of the rooms are beneath ground level meant it was nice and cool even with 36 degree temperatures. Lizette thoughtfully provided a welcome pack of bread, homemade jam and wine. there were plenty of bikes to borrow (and helmets), the pool and surrounding area was great, plenty of sunbeds for all as well as seating areas to read a book and umbrellas for shade. Also a number of inflatables for the pool were thoughtfully available. the Zipwire was great fun - Craig provided instruction on the Sunday how to use it and our girls were on it practically every day. They also loved the dog Jacko the 2 cats and the 3 horses. A comprehensive visitor guide to the area had been created by Lizette and she was happy to help with restaurant bookings etc. and provide any advice. Although in a lovely quiet area the place is well located for many local attractions, Brantome, Aubeterre, Riberac etc. all within about 30 mins drive on lovely quiet roads. Overall a great property run by someone who puts effort into providing a quality experience. I normally always mention at least something that can be improved, had to rack my brains but the only thing I could think of was bigger wine glasses, the 175ml ones meant going down into the kitchen to get the white out of the fridge more frequent! Had a great time and hope to return in the future

Hôte très pro, discrète et à la fois très réactive en cas de besoin. On se trouve vraiment en pleine campagne, à 40 mn de Périgueux. C'est hyper calme (il y a pas mal de mouches mais c'est normal car on est entouré de champs et il y a des chevaux juste à côté de la maison). La maison est propre et pratique, avec quasi toutes les fonctionnalités (sauf le lave vaisselle). La piscine est grande et partagée avec les locataires de l'autre maison mitoyenne. On a passé un super moment reposant et on a découvert la région que l'on ne connaissait pas (voiture obligatoire évidemment pour les visites). Merci encore pour l'accueil !

Je n'ai pas pour habitude de laisser un mauvais commentaire mais cette location nous a trop déçu: Logement en vis à vis direct sur la maison des hôtes, pas d'intimité.Odeur et mouches dù à la proximité du box des chevaux accolé au mur d'une chambre.Escalier d'accès à la terrasse trop à pic.Télévision uniquement en anglais, l'annonce devrait le préciser plus clairement.Quand vous réservez une "propriété avec piscine CHAUFFEE" vous vous attendez à trouver une eau à 27° 28° mais certainement pas à 20°. Sinon, endroit calme mais loin de tout intérêt dans la région.

Je suis désolé que vous ayez été déçu par l'hébergement, je suis très surpris car nous avons normalement 4 et 5 étoiles. il précise que nous vivons sur place mais ce n'est que la porte d'entrée qui s'ouvre sur l'allée avant, vous disposez d'un jardin arrière privé. Les mouches sont normales à la campagne, et pas seulement à cause des chevaux que la plupart des gens aiment voir ou caresser. nous ne pouvons malheureusement pas changer les escaliers mais nous allons changer la télévision par un satellite français. Concernant la piscine chauffée, car il s'agit d'une pompe à chaleur de conversion et non d'un radiateur électrique comme on le ferait dans une grande piscine publique. elle n'atteindra pas 27/28 si la température extérieure n'est que de 18. il a fait inhabituellement plus froid en septembre. il y a beaucoup de belles villes à voir à 15-30 minutes en voiture

Relaxing peaceful holiday

This was our first time in the area although we have been in rural France many times. We were lucky being off season the other property was empty so we had the pool area to ourselves. Lizette is a wonderful host, on hand if you need something, but leaves you to it if want to relax. The weather was kind so we went walking every day, there are so many walks in easy reach. Coming back for a swim in the heated pool was fabulous. Our dog made firm friends with Poppy the resident Jack Russell and they spent ages playing together. We would definitely recommend staying here if it's a rural holiday you want.

Superb family holiday

We had a fantastic week in Grand Brassac. The location was great, peaceful and rural but close enough to interesting places nearby to visit. (We visited caves, a lake and went canoeing in Brantome.) Lizette was a wonderful host, welcoming and very helpful. The gite had everything we needed and the facilities, pool, zip wire, table tennis pool table bikes etc were perfect for our family (children aged 10 and 13). Many thanks!

Great stay - fantastic location!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Grand Brassac. The property was very clean and tidy and Lizette and Craig were excellent hosts and always available when needed. The facilities on site (pool, zip wire, table tennis, bikes etc.) were a real plus as there was always something to do on rest days. The nearby canoeing and horse riding (detailed in the property information provided) were both excellent and good value for money. The local area is very beautiful with lots of interesting villages and small towns to visit.

Lizette and her husband Craig bought Le Guichard in June 2013, after having owned a successful holiday rental property in Devon, they were looking to continue in the holiday lettings business, but in a warmer climate. They now live here permanently with their 3 horses and 2 terriers. We fell in love with the peacefulness and tranquility of it's surroundings and the beautiful countryside. We were also looking for a property that would not only provide our guests with a high standard of accommodation, but could also offer plenty of local activities and Le Guichard has it all.

Why they chose this property

On first visiting this area of France we immediately fell in love with it. It's location makes it very accessible from the UK & many parts of Europe. The area is a wonderful mix of rolling hills, winding rivers & extensive countryside views. It is a great spot to explore the many varied historic & cultural sites including a range of caves, chateaux, vineyards & pretty villages. Our property is in the countryside which provides a haven of tranquility ideal for relaxation & yet is close to many towns such as Brantome and Riberac with it's shops, cafes, bars & restaurants including the famous Friday market. The area offers a mix of outdoor pursuits and quiet lazy days wondering through historic picture postcard villages. This is a great holiday destination for either families or couples.

What makes this property unique

In this area of the Dordogne there is an abundance of outdoor pursuits and plenty of tracks leading straight from the property, for cycling, walking and horse riding or fishing in the local rivers. Nearby golf courses and many local markets and festivals. Or take a canoe trip down the river or meander around the colourful markets or the pretty villages. There is also the nearby leisure lake at La Jameye with a man made beach.
Our holiday homes are detached properties sitting in their own private gardens and of course there is the pool, with all pool furniture provided for our guests comfort and enjoyment. There is also our own Zip Wire ride ( see photos ) built in our own woods for the kids to enjoy.
