About this property
L' Arcata a Montesanto 1700s courtyard, metro & funicular
L'Arcata a Montesanto is a comfortable and characterful apartment in the historic center of Naples, housed in an 18th-century building. Its most distinctive feature: two balconies and a window overlooking a quiet and beautiful internal courtyard—a rarity in the heart of the city, and a natural refuge after a day of sightseeing. Two balconies and a window overlook the quiet internal courtyard of the 18th-century building. The apartment receives indirect light, it is not very bright, but it is cool and quiet on summer days and well-sheltered in winter—a true refuge after long days of sightseeing.
The apartment is ideally located for reaching every corner of Naples and its surroundings: Metro Lines 1 and 2, the Montesanto Funicular, and the Cumana Railway are all just a few minutes' walk away, offering four separate transportation options. The historic center, Piazza Dante, the Pignasecca market, and Via Toledo are all within walking distance. The apartment accommodates up to 4 people (double bedroom + sofa bed in the living room), with a well-equipped kitchen, fast Wi-Fi (120 Mbps), air conditioning, and a workspace. It features a spacious living room with a sofa bed and dining area, a separate bedroom with a double bed (a cot is available upon request for families with small children), a well-equipped kitchen (stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, kettle, washing machine, and all necessary utensils), and a bathroom with a shower and bidet.
The Montesanto neighborhood is lively and authentically Neapolitan—markets, bakeries, bars, pizzerias, and trattorias are just outside the door—without the heavy tourist traffic of other central areas.
Montesanto is one of the most characteristic and authentic neighborhoods in central Naples—less frequented by tourists than the Spanish Quarter or the seafront, but extremely vibrant with Neapolitan daily life. La Pignasecca, one of the city's oldest open-air markets, is just steps away, as are dozens of bars, bakeries, trattorias, and pizzerias.
The neighborhood is located at the crossroads between the historic center (a UNESCO World Heritage site), the Spanish Quarters, and Vomero hill—allowing guests to easily reach all three areas on foot or by taking the Montesanto funicular, which ascends directly from the street below. National Archaeological Museum: 10 minutes on foot. Piazza del Gesù Nuovo: 10 minutes. Via Toledo: 7 minutes. Molo Beverello (ferries to Capri, Ischia, Procida): 20 minutes on foot.
Naples is also an exceptional base for day trips to the region's most celebrated destinations. From Montesanto station (a 2-minute walk) you can reach: - Pompeii – 35 minutes by Circumvesuviana (via Napoli Centrale) - Herculaneum – 20 minutes by Circumvesuviana - Sorrento – 65 minutes by Circumvesuviana - Caserta and its Royal Palace – 40 minutes by regional train from the Metro 2 station - Capri and Ischia – 20 minutes on foot to the Molo Beverello ferry terminal - Pozzuoli, Baia, and the Phlegraean Fields – 20 minutes by Cumana train from Montesanto - Amalfi Coast – 90 minutes by ferry or bus from Salerno
The Cumana line from Montesanto is a rare advantage: direct access to the Phlegraean Fields, an underrated volcanic and archaeological area that few tourists reach from central Naples.
