About this property
Stylish, modern and spacious conversion of a 19C barn with pool, sleeps 10
Gîte des Milans is a beautifully restored hidden gem, ideal for families and groups of friends.
The property is decorated to a very high standard, with unique design features and high quality furnishings to make our guests holiday experience special and luxurious.
It is situated at the southern end of the Aveyron bordering the Tarn. The area is one of France's best-kept secrets; all that France has to offer without the crowds. Come and enjoy walking, cycling, climbing, canoeing, birdwatching, wine tasting or simply relaxing by the pool.
The Gîte itself is a spacious 19th Century barn which was restored in 2016, and designed to capitalise on its space and situation, using a mixture of modern materials, recycled barn features and classic furniture.
The huge Living space and kitchen is on the 1st Floor and has retained its exposed timbers, and stone walls, while adding in Velux roof lights and extra windows to enjoy the light and far reaching views. From the Living Space there is also direct access to a roof terrace, which enjoys a South Westerly view towards the Pyrenees providing ideal opportunities for long al fresco evening meals and beautiful sunsets.
There are 4 large bedrooms on the Ground Floor all with en suite bathrooms and wet room showers. The 2 master bedrooms have sliding windows opening on to the garden.
There is large garden with a play area for little kids, and plenty of trees and shady areas for midday barbecues or gentle hammock enjoyment.
The pool, lined with fragrant lavender, sits high over the landscape and also provides long unbroken views from the sun loungers.
The area provides opportunities for all the enjoyments of France:
- The classic bastide villages of Najac, and Cordes-sur-Ciel
- Wine tasting in Gaillac or Cahors
- Markets galore, including night markets where visitors can buy their food and wine and eat in a convivial atmosphere
- Canoeing and climbing only 15 minutes from the gite
- Beautiful River swimming just down the road
In the Gite we have a small selection of hybrid and Mountain bikes, and we provide advice on good cycling or walking routes from the Gite, depending on length and abilities.
Richard and Anna, the owners, live in the neighbouring property and are available if required to provide advice on tours, walks, activities. All facilities are for the exclusive use of the guests of the Gîte des Milans.

About the host
Hosted by Richard Pitkin
We met at University studying French (Richard even visited the Aveyron back then when he was meant to be studying in Toulouse) and then when our eldest children were quite young we lived and worked on the Cote d'Azur for a few years before returning to the UK, so we have a long running love affair with France.
Having decided to make a break from our life in Southern England, we bought this place and live in the old farmhouse adjacent to the barn which we have lovingly restored to create a beautiful holiday home.

Why they chose this property
Our criteria when we were searching were, beautiful views, South/South West Facing, house + barn with plenty of space, and rural but not too remote. And we have ticked all those boxes.
The two Master bedrooms situated on the ground floor, each have picture windows opening on to the garden, offering long reaching views across the countryside .
Guests can choose whether to eat and enjoy the views from the covered terrace, or take their drinks and food to the terrace in the dappled shade of the trees alongside the barn.
The Aveyron is a beautiful treasure in South West France with plenty of activities and opportunities for enjoyment for people of all ages.

What makes this property unique
We have lovingly built this holiday home blending old a new materials and furniture, gathered and collected over the years. With Underfloor heating, woodburning stove and solar panels, blended with huge oak beams, and antique furniture, the big space becomes cosy and homely even for the biggest groups.
In the same way the area, sitting at the Southern end of the Aveyron, bordering the Tarn, and Tarn et Garonne blends the rural and the wild with the culture and wealth of the wine growing areas bordering Gaillac and Albi.
